Thanks Queen. Settling in ☕️

Spudlet · 24/10/2018 12:20

More hats pls. I need maximum hattage!

I really enjoy these threads, they are a welcome distraction from some of the shit fluttering around in my own little life right now Smile Everything is better with a good hat to look at!

(Those pom-poms though... not loving them)

Paradyning · 24/10/2018 12:22

It definitely does look like an arse, as a pp said!

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/10/2018 12:29

@Spudlet, I don't know what the designer was thinking to add those pom poms. It's a lovely dress without them!

A day off the thread and so much to catch up on! Grin

@PawneeParksDept

1) police officers came to reprimand her for nuisance phone calls to some bloke and or his wife and she called William in, said it was him and the police bollocked him. It was her.

‘Her’ being Diana!? Hmm there’s so much I don’t know (I’m Harry’s age so obviously didn’t know about all this stuff growing up).

Loved Kate’s look tbh but clearly in the minority there (I like 99% of what she wears though Grin). I don’t seem to be taking the same shine to Meghan’s style. Didn’t like the blue formal gown (agree with a pp it needed something more) or the pink monstrosity (although again agree with a pp it looked better side on). It looked very frumpy from the front imo.

Spudlet · 24/10/2018 12:37

It's a shame, it takes a nice dress veering off into the realms of 'slightly crappy top tip from Take a Break' territory' Confused

However - there is colour! So yay for that, although I do like her 'working' wardrobe, I think something a bit more laid back was appropriate for that trip.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/10/2018 12:40

Excellent, I love a brand new shiny thread!
Is this about no.6?
Last thread was raising some heavy issues about mental health.
Given their history, William and Harry have turned out well and are facing their MH issues head on.
As pp said on previous thread, I am.shocked that Diana blamed William for the nuisance calls.
Given her own very troubled childhood; I would not be surprised if she had some undiagnosed mental health.issues. pond unquestionably, other issues; who knows...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/10/2018 12:41

*pnd

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/10/2018 12:43

At least Harry has been open about seeking counselling to help him deal with his demons. Has William said the same? I'm sure Prince Charles has issues of his own too - didn't HM and the DoE once leave him and Anne for 6 MONTHS to tour the Commonwealth and then just shake his hand when they saw him upon their return? Plus he was sent away to Gordonstoun and hated it as he was badly bullied. That alone is enough to mark someone, let alone his later troubles with Diana and Camilla.

I’m late to these threads, wish I’d found them at the start! I’ve not long ventured away from AIBU though. Thank you Eugenie for getting married as I have discovered these threads because of you Grin. Might take a look back and see what people thought of Meghan’s wedding dress.

californiascreaming · 24/10/2018 12:52

Thanks for the new thread.
My new heroine is Max! At some point will go off and google to find out a bit more than just the fact that she's Argentinian!
Yes you can't tell everything from the photos but she looks like she's happy in the spotlight, gets to indulge in some fabulous outfits and wear some amazing jewels but is still at ease with the regular public that are meeting her.

PawneeParksDept · 24/10/2018 12:54

Swinging in.

Yes @AhoyDelBoy Diana once made a spate of nuisance calls and when they were traced back to her blamed William

TSSDNCOP · 24/10/2018 13:00

Loved Meghan’s dress today, especially the Pom poms Grin

But, oh gosh, what was Catherine wearing last evening?

I had the exact same dress in fuschia at my 21st birthday in 1989! Drop waist, check. Fussy little rosette, check. Shiny silk, check.

Spudlet · 24/10/2018 13:06

I do feel a sneaking sense of sympathy for them. Obviously there are many, MANY people who are far worse off - the royals are never going to need to worry about how they'll pay their mortgage, or wait for months and months for medical treatment. However, I look at the children especially and think, yes, my DS has his issues and yes, he may have some limitations, and yes, waiting for ages for a diagnosis sucks - but we will get one, we will get help, and I firmly believe that he will achieve independence and that his life will be his own, within those limits. Those little children have very little choice about the lives they will lead - their careers, such as they are, are set out for them from birth. Their mistakes will be frontpage news. And that's before you factor in the huge levels of dysfunction, which we can only hope that the younger royals will be able to avoid passing down the generations.

I'm not weeping into my coffee for them, but also, I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.

Although I would quite like a pair of Kate's boots. Those Penelope Chilvers ones. I like those very much indeed. And her Fjallraven jumper.

ShockShockShockShock
Far out that is bizarre! So he must of been a young teen at the time? I think it’s all very sad really. I only really know about Diana’s ED and the ‘There were three of us in this marriage comment’ Blush
I’ve only learnt from the last thread she was 19 when they married, PC 32.

itswinetime · 24/10/2018 13:11

Love the colour of Max's dress but the hat not great head probably needed a rest after last nights whooper though.

I like Sophie's style normally would like to see more of her at the formal events but this was a little dark fo me.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if members of the royal family had Mh issues it's such an odd lifestyle I think it's easier for Harry to talk about than William not being directly in line to throne but it's also possible he doesn't feel as comfortable being open Especially in such a public arena.

WipsGlitter · 24/10/2018 13:13

Not sure about Sophie's outfit today. Makes her look dumpy.

AhoyDelBoy · 24/10/2018 13:17

Those little children have very little choice about the lives they will lead - their careers, such as they are, are set out for them from birth. Their mistakes will be frontpage news. So true. Do you suppose George knows, as well a 5 year old can, that he will be the King one day? Imagine explaining that to a child (although I guess Royal life is his normal so he doesn’t know any different).

And that's before you factor in the huge levels of dysfunction, which we can only hope that the younger royals will be able to avoid passing down the generations.

When you say the huge levels of dysfunction do you mean the PC and Diana debacle? On the face of it the D&DoC seem very happy and in love. Surely they provide a happy and stable upbringing for their little cherubs.

LimpyLampy · 24/10/2018 13:18

I didn’t know that gossip about Diana either! I’d say she as hard work but young trying to cope in a disastrous marriage. Where were her own family? The Middleton’s offer tremendous support to Kate, they are publicly available. Where were Diana’s? She was only nineteen. Did she have a family herself?

We tend to parent the same way we were parented ourselves.

Thanks for setting up the thread.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 24/10/2018 13:19

Well. What should have been a week or so of royal loveliness has proved hugely disappointing, redeemed only by Maxima wearing the full Stuart tiara. How could they all get it so wrong?

I'm going off to see if CP Mary can restore my faith...

Paradyning · 24/10/2018 13:22

I think there's a tiara event in Sweden tonight and one in Norway tomorrow! According to my guru who is the Royal Order of Sartorial Splendour.
So more loveliness to froth over!

dairyfarmerswife · 24/10/2018 13:30

Do you suppose George knows, as well a 5 year old can, that he will be the King one day?

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the Cambridges are keeping it from him to enable him to feel as normal as possible. I don't know how that pans out at school, surely the other children know?

I think Prince Charles's high colour could just be from spending a lot of time outdoors. Put him in a boilersuit and flat cap and he would look like an old farmer to me!

AhoyDelBoy · 24/10/2018 13:33

I’ve nevee heard Diana’s parents spoken of Limpy only her brother 🤷🏼‍♀️

AhoyDelBoy · 24/10/2018 13:33

Never*

AhoyDelBoy · 24/10/2018 13:36

Exactly dairyfarmerswife imagine George coming home from school one day and saying “Mummy, Thomas said I’m going to be the King one day” Shock
