I randomly found a slideshow of Princess Margaret's best fashion moments. Interestingly most of them come from the 50s. I'm not sure the 60s silhouette suited her as well, although no one wore a caftan like she did in the 70s! Her wedding dress was lovely too, and her DiL chose a very similar style many years later.

What a wonderful promise "create a family full of smiles"

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/10/2018 15:58

I've just caught up with the news about CP Mette-Marit. How sad. She'll have the best medical care of course, but it's still a life-limiting illness and she's only mid-forties.

Emperor Akihito is abdicating on 2020 too according to the article.
CP Naruhito will become Emperor. Hope all will bode well for his wife CP Masako given the blinds about his temper and her depression.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/10/2018 16:17

The Japanese monarchy is still very old-fashioned - women can't inherit, any princess who gets married is immediately expelled from the Imperial family - and I'm not sure if Naruhito will modernise it. There was something of a crisis about 10 years ago as he and his brother only had daughters, but his brother's wife has since had a son.

Princess Margaret’s children sold her jewellery, personal effects and objet d’art after her death. Christie’s held the sale over several days. I bought the collection of catalogues and there were amazing photographs of her wearing her jewels. Unfortunately I lent them to someone who never returned them so cannot put pics up.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/10/2018 16:22

Oh I didn't know that. She had some fabulous jewels! I wonder who bought them? Apparently there's a pair of her earrings that Lady Sarah always wears to big occasions.

The items were absolutely stunning including luggage and vanity bags, handbags and of course her jewels.
The catalogues should be available to view in the Christie’s Archive if you enquire.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/10/2018 16:31

I’ve seen Sarah wearing that necklace of solitaire diamonds that PM was photographed in in the1950s

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/10/2018 16:36

Link to photos of Margaret’s jewellery

Just need to scroll down a bit.
Looks like the provenance bumped up the price.
Raised £9.5million

Iirc Princess Margaret's children had to sell things to pay inheritance tax.

eddiemairswife · 29/10/2018 16:57

I've just read Ma'am Darling by Craig Brown. Princess Margaret doesn't seem to have been a very nice woman.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/10/2018 17:00

I read that too, she came across as a very unhappy woman.

@queenoftheandals thanks for that link - loved browsing through those looks. I think she was very beautiful - stunning eyes.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/10/2018 17:02

Btw I'm going to create a new thread tonight with links to all the previous style threads in it too, as a few people have asked for them.

Have to go out now for a couple of hours but bear with me, it'll be ready in time for Harry and Meghan's last day in NZ and William and Kate's outing tomorrow!

hero @queenoftheandals you deserve a tiara for sure

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 29/10/2018 17:13

Goodness isn't Princess Margaret like Princess Anne in some of those pics? I've never noticed it before, but she's her double around the 70s.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/10/2018 17:21

@Queen
Great! Looking forward to rereading the old threads!

VanillaSugary · 29/10/2018 17:24

Thanks queen 👸

user1457017537 · 29/10/2018 18:27

I doubt whether inheritance tax was a problem. The Queen is the richest woman in the world and I am sure she would have loaned the money. Probably followed the American way of estate sale.

OlennasWimple · 29/10/2018 18:32

Much of the Queen's money is tied up in property, jewellery and things that she isn't allowed to sell, though

beanaseireann · 29/10/2018 18:33

I see the DM has a piece about Meghan having a contract for a nutritionist, nanny and personal trainer should she become pregnant during her marriage to Trevor Engleson.

user1457017537 · 29/10/2018 18:42

Re MM she didn’t leave much to chance did she! A contract should you become pregnant is that a thing

Paradyning · 29/10/2018 18:56

Those wedding kimono are incredible. Thanks to whoever posted about the Japanese wedding!

Yes yes about the Japanese blinds. There was one about how girl crush Max was trying to help her escape her marriage
