Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

WRT to The Ordinary/Deciem:

Most of us had long since stopped using it, partially due to the inconsistency of formulations and the worrying behaviour of the CEO on Social Media.

Since that compilation, other brands like the Inkey, Revolution Skincare, QRXLabs, and Alex Steinherr x Primark have launched with similar products/concepts.

From the limited experience on here, the Vitamin C 23% and Azelaic Acid from Garden of Wisdom (at Victoria’s Health) is well liked and much preferred over TO versions.

OCTOBER 2018: In other news, we’re two years old this month! We’re so old- Drunk Elephant is finally available in the UK, but all this celebration is probably overshadowed by the fear that our beloved LRP Toleriane Fluide may have been discontinued Sad

Thank you ladies.

Enid I'm feeling pretty shit at mo too :-(

miffy2 · 06/11/2018 21:24

Hello again! Haven't had much time to post lately but I was recently in the US and I bought lots of lovely skincare, including more DE (with 15% off and free delivery to my hotel), Jordan Samuel skincare (lush), some Farmacy cleanser and acid exfoliator, IT Cosmetics CC cream in the oil-free formula (note: I have used 2.5 tubes of the regular formula. This one is lovely too, doesn't need powder, lasts all day and I bought it in a half-shade lighter, ie fair-light. Very happy), lots of Bite Beauty lip masks and lipsticks (my number one lip brand) and bits and pieces in the drugstores.

Can I ask, what are the recommended K beauty sites to purchase from ? I know of yesstyle, roseroseshop and there is one more that I know I have used but can't for the life of me remember. I think I bought Dr Jart water bomb or Ceramidin from them but the name escapes me. Anyone care to hazard a guess? I am looking to get Belif's sleeping mask.

Flowers Enid and Mint I’m not feeling great either, I hate winter and the long dark nights.

My skin is doing ok though apart from being a bit dry from central heating. I still haven’t added ret back in to my routine, I’ve had quite a bit of social stuff on plus work travel and don’t want to be peely but I should really think in the long term and suck it up. I’m really liking the pestle and mortar HA, it seems more moisturising than Vichy 89 so good for winter.

Fantastic haul there Miffy I want to try the oil free IT cosmetics cc cream but I’m waiting for it to arrive on qvc as they normally throw in a brush or a few other bits for not much more money. Interesting about the shades, I’m medium tan in the normal one as medium was too pink for me. Though if I wait for qvc I can get both and send one back. No help on the K sites as I’ve never used one.

BagelGoesWalking · 07/11/2018 00:49

Miffy2 I use eBay sellers for KBeauty stuff but maybe it was StyleKorea you were thinking of? These are the eBay ones I use:
Iamlove-shop (Jolse’s eBay presence), f2plus1, raonshop, cosmeticmarket2012, rubyrubystore, roseroseshop, korea-cosmetic-samples.

Tant Thank you Brew There were loads of M&S calendars in our local one. They were up selling them at the tills so must have lots in stock to get rid of. If they'd put pics on the back instead of list in a teeny font (maybe under a flap so you could avoid seeing unless you wanted to) I think more people would get one unplanned.

Or maybe I need an eye test Blush (I think I do actually. Not sure I suit glasses...)

Snail method slightly adapted seemed to go well. Thanks for the summary JD. My nose felt rough with SFs and is now smooth and shiny chin feels smoother too. Look much better now.

Tried choc milk trick again for another oncoming migraine and it worked. Confused So weird but not going to argue with it. As remedies go is a very nice one.

Sorry to hear that Mint and Sallie I actually like this time of year but the darkness isn't nice I agree. Takes some adjusting to. Hard work if dealing with illness too. Flowers Hope you both feel better and brighter soon.

(Can recommend high dosage vit D and evening primrose oil to anyone feeling the blues. Magnesium excellent for anxiety. Said before but throwing it in there in case it helps someone.)

I've been eyeing up the Christmas make up and beauty sets. Haven't seen any skin/body care ones yet but Bobbi Brown have some nice bits in.

Anyone use Mac lustre lipstick in Syrup? Fancying trying it based on online searches.

EnidButton · 07/11/2018 02:41

Envious of your Bite beauty products Miffy. I could eat that lipstick. 😁

Connie5858 · 07/11/2018 07:31

I have been following lots of the recommendations on here.
For a long time i kept repurchasing the ordinary Hyalurornic acid. Then I upgraded to the NIOD multi molecular hyalaueic complex. I love this. I will soon need to repurchase. Because people are moving away from the ordinary and deciem what are the alternatives please .

Connie5858 · 07/11/2018 07:41

I have had a look at botemps alternative sheet ( thanks bo).
But would like some personal recommendations please.

botemp · 07/11/2018 08:00

Connie, I'd have a look at the Hada Labo Premium one and I'd also look at focusing on strengthening your barrier as part of your routine if not already.

Miffy, I'm guessing Jolse was the one you were looking for?

Flowers Enid, run up to Christmas is tough, especially the first year. Got anything else planned to distract/look forward to? Laura Mercier usually do nice bath and body sets for Christmas.

Oh Sallie sorry your not feeling great either. I actually like the dark evenings I find it really cosy (don't like the wind and rain tho!)

Enid I still need to try the choc milk trick, is it a particular one that works or do u think a hot choc with my Cadbury's powder will work too?

Pupsiecola · 07/11/2018 09:54

Does anyone want my Leighton Denny top coat and colour? I won't use them again and it seems ridiculous to bin them. Free to a good home ..

miffy2 · 07/11/2018 10:57

Yes! Jolse was the one. Thank you to botemp and bagel who have better memories than me. :)

Enid they are just the best, I agree. I now have quite a bite beauty collection. Just wish they would sell in Europe.

Connie5858 · 07/11/2018 12:29

Botemp
t
Thankyou will have a look

EnidButton · 07/11/2018 17:02

I'm interested Pupsie if you still have them. Smile

EnidButton · 07/11/2018 17:08

bo Thank you. Flowers Something to plan or look forward to is a good idea. Thinking of booking another short break in Jan and I'll think about what projects I can give myself.

Mint Any choc milk although it was a Starbucks one that worked the first time. Not sure about hot choc. A lot of the soothing effect comes from it being very cold. My head gets really hot when I have a migraine. I'm not sure what it is about it tbh. The fat? Sugar? Mild caffeine? You could try the hot choc and let us know if it helps.

EnidButton · 07/11/2018 17:10

Pupsie Oh sorry to be a picky Madame but I don't wear pale pink. Blush So someone else might take you up on your kind offer instead. Cake

Pupsiecola · 07/11/2018 17:59

Don't worry Enid. If there are no takers in the next few days I'm happy to send you the top coat.

SallieSallow · 07/11/2018 19:21

I hate the dark Sad also hate the cold but I could cope with that (especially as I’m not very outdoorsy) if it wasn’t so dark all the time, I wish I could get on board with the cosy thing, but it just feels oppressive to me.

I’ve started on Vit d but will look into magnesium and evening primrose too thanks Enid

Planning a break for January is a good idea, agree with Bo the first Christmas is particularly tough Flowers

Pupsie I’ll pass on LD thanks as my experience with it was the same as yours Grin

TantricTwist · 07/11/2018 21:40

Got home from work and my new Kimono and matching Pj's arrived so I jumped straight in the shower and put them on. I love them, but I'm still going to sleep in my M&S nighty, these are just to lounge around in

JDSTER · 07/11/2018 22:09

Good buys there miffy. I’d love the chance to go round the ‘drugstores’ in US again.
Probably 15 years since I’ve done that.

I’m still enjoying DE Vit C. I think the addition of HA makes it a nice comfortable choice for the skin. I’m using a light moisturiser (LRP toleriane fluide original version) over the top now it’s colder and have gone back to using NIOD multimolecular HA. I like it too connie and I’ve got enough that I probably won’t need to look for an alternative for a while, as I only use/need it in winter.

I’ve got a few spots at the moment which are those sore ones. Not sure why as I can go for months with none and now I’ve got three. What’s the best BP treatment I can buy?

I’ve added in evening primrose recently Enid as I get pre menstrual breast pain and because my mum had breast ca, it makes me feel sort of anxious when they’re sore, even though I know it’s not rational.

I also use magnesium spray on occasions. It’s meant to absorb well through the skin and I use it if my back is playing up a bit but also at night, if I remember, after a bath, to calm me ready for sleep. Might be placebo but it does seem to help.

EnidButton · 07/11/2018 23:09

Thank you Pupsie Smile

JD It's been very good for sore breasts for me. Still get it occasionally but definitely not as bad or as often. I think it's worth taking. I should look at getting a magnesium spray.

Sallie Maybe you get a bit of seasonal affective disorder? Hopefully as the vitamin d builds up you'll feel a bit better. Flowers

I've just tried on all my lipsticks so I can justify buying a couple of new ones. God knows what I was thinking when I bought some of them. Chanel Boy is the most unflattering colour ever on my skintone but I wore it for months a couple of years back Confused I look terrible in it! That's gone in the bin.
Anyway decided I can buy a couple of new ones.

Mint How far off is your wedding now?

EnidButton · 07/11/2018 23:11

Tant They sound very fancy!

mintmagnummm · 08/11/2018 06:19

Enid it's 10 months away now!!

Migraine definitely here.....

JDSTER · 08/11/2018 14:26

Chanel boy in the bin Shock Enid?
Not that I’ve ever tried it Grin

I had a good mooch round town today (well city centre to be exact). I bought a new skirt from Hush that I’ve tried on before and I still like it so I decided to get it.

I’ve repurchased Dior lip plumper, which is like a gloss and does temporarily plump lips without being drying or stinging. Less glamorous was a tube of benzoyl peroxide and the new Nivea micellar, supposed to be good for waterproof mascara. I thought I’d give it a try instead of Nivea eye makeup remover or Bioderma micellar that I usually use.

I also bought some huge and delicious onion bhajis that are restaurant made then sold in a department store 😋
Obviously that’s not style and beauty but hey Grin
