Any other hourglass shapes out there? All curves welcome

Anyone out there want to share good fashion finds? The whole boxy /v straight Cos look couldn't be further from my style.

I am an inverted triangle - can I join?! I have the boobs and waist but not the hips but I still follow the principles of buying things which show off the lines of my body as otherwise, I just look like a box on legs.

It's SO hard trying to find things which are shaped never mind tailored. I resort to taking all my clothes to a local seamstress to be fitted which is bloody expensive but what's the alternative when everything is boxy?

I find European brands better than UK/Scandi as they're more traditional (old fashioned in Mumsnet land).

As I said, I love the big baggy look but refuse to wear it and look like an egg on legs.

Of course you can @unobtainable. I laughed with sympathy at your egg on legs description. Do you have any recommend brands? I like classic clothes and still miss Austin Reed's jackets.

My other fashion challenge is being short so many jackets even if they have shape are too long. I use a tailor made too but a lot of blazers can't easily be adapted.

Looking for advice too. I either wear things that are too big in places or layers.

Everything else makes me look like I’m trying to be kelly brook or Jessica rabbit. Which isn’t a look I want walking the dogs or going on the school run.

I’m particularly looking for a fit and flare coat if anyone has any recommendations.

Have a problem purchasing coats and have 5 unworn ones in my wardrobe. have been losing weight so will actually fit into them this winter!

Me! I'm nearly 6ft so anything without a cinched waist makes me look like a boulder. Really struggling with coats. Anything puffer style makes me look horrendous

Me! Most recent successful buys were from Oasis. They seem to flatter my shape.

I'm a 4ft 11 hourglass with 32FF boobs. I can dress OK for work in smartish dresses and a jersey blazer but always look frumpy or over-dressed in casual clothes. I can't wear heels which doesn't help with the overall top-heavy look

I'm an hourglass with 34G boobs. Summer was easy enough as 50s style sundresses look great on me. I've decided to tackle winter by just wearing whatever the hell I like and not worrying about whether it's "flattering" - which I feel is just code for "looks sexually attractive", and fuck it, I'm nearly 40 and I've been with the same man for almost 15 years, why should I care about that?

To that end, I've just bought a pair of denim dungarees. They possibly make me look like an off-duty Telly Tubby, but I care not, I love them.

Me; I'm hour glass, size 14, 34G.

For me, these things work:

Pencil skirts
A line skirts, as long as they are knee length
Shift dresses
Wrap dresses
Bodycon dresses
Hobbs and Phase 8 suit me. Some Boden. Some 50s stuff.
Shorter jumpers or cardigans with dresses
Long sleeve tops, crew or scoop.
Absolutely no shirts.

Mrsram what tops are you wearing with the a line skirts please. I love some oasis skirts but have tried and failed on finding tops that go with them.

Can I join please? I've been learning loads of techniques off YouTube for getting things to fit. I struggle to get jeans in particular that fit without gaping round the waist but learned how to put hidden elastic into them. I've learned how to do darts in button downs. Of course anything that can be used as a belt is still my friend!

One thing I have discovered, maybe not everyone's liking, is Homeyee dresses (online from Amazon). They've something of a cult following with US newsreaders and weather presenters.

Relatively even shaped hourglass here, slightly bigger of hip than boob, but only slightly.

For me I find the following work:

Phase Eight faux wrap dresses
Pencil skirts with cardigans
Jeans are a nightmare - I nearly always have to adjust them
Fitted shirts

Casual is a struggle. I end up with fitted jumpers and cardigans and my ajusted jeans or a denim/cord skirt and long boots in the winter.

In the summer for casual I wear more casual straight skirts or bias cut dresses.

For winter coats, the fit and flare style works quite well, as you maintain a waist with them.

I mostly shop on ebay, as I know the brands I like and can rummage around to find what works.

I should throw in a vote for Bravissimo clothes. Their clothing range is limited and dull unfortunately.

Another hourglass here. Size 14, 5'7" and a 12" difference between hip and waist measurements (plus huge boobs).

Like everyone else, I can pull off smart, workwear looks no problem, but I just can't get casual to look right. It seems like there is no middle ground between sexy and frumpy when you have curves!

I also look dreadful in most jeans and have never really worn them.

My standard look most of the year is shift dress (with tights + polo neck in winter, sleeveless with sandals in summer) or denim/cord knee-length skirt with a fitted sweater or top. Palazzo pants also look good, so I happily bought some of those this summer.

You're the same height, size and hip/waist ratio as me vitamin. I stick to dresses and skirts most of the time too.

I have some high waisted jeans from ASOS that fit ok-ish with a belt. Also have a few pairs of trousers from H&m that fit well

I had one pair of jeans that I loved, from Esprit. I had them years, they fit really well and were very comfortable, but sadly they eventually fell apart.

I have a whole shelf in my wardrobe of jeans, chinos, cigarette pants etc that I've bought since, but I end up taking them off as soon as I put them on. They just don't suit me. I still secretly dream of finding a replacement for the worn out pair, but no luck so far...

I do own a few pairs of comfortable "dress pants", but they are not really suitable for everyday wear and are very incompatible with my job and current lifestyle!

It's interesting how often so many wear dresses or skirts.

Ah, my people! I'm 5'1", 40:27:38 bust waist hip - and high waisted to boot. I walk and cycle most places so skirts and heels aren't great. That said I have been wearing lots of 50s dresses over the summer, but with autumn setting in I am back to boring straight trousers with faux wrap tops (lamenting the demise of kaliko). I have got quite good at turning things inside out to pin in darts. But as pp have said casual is a pain - I just can't find jeans that work for me.
