Anyone out there want to share good fashion finds? The whole boxy /v straight Cos look couldn't be further from my style.

Lindybop has some horrors but it also has some really nice pieces if you search around - I have a plain red jacquard wiggle dress and a few simple floral patterns in a fit and flare style which feel totally suitable for work. (I confess I also have a turquoise top and skirt set with yellow macaws which is fun and cheerful for out of work time and not overwhelming if I don't wear them together!)

And so the search continues for contemporary tops!

Just bought this which am very pleased with, to wear with boots, tights, thin polos and shirts tucked in. Sits perfectly on the waist - and do size down (am a size 8/10 but had to take an 8 in this style) www.warehouse.co.uk/gb/just-arrived/all/cord-pocket-detail-skirt/032179.html?cgid=new-in-all&position=66&dwvar_032179_color=11#sz=60&dwdm=0.5845987961540147&start=66&categoryID=new-in-all

I've just bought the Hush Yasmin dress which although I don't think it's worth the price tag is very flattering on my figure . I've had to have it shortened because I'm short but it's a lovely cut to wear with boots for a night out .

IrenetheQuaint · 17/09/2018 21:09

I was just about to start a thread about the difficulty of finding tops that suit those of us with waists! So many are weird square shapes. Why?? I have a couple of lovely ones from Hobbs but usually only buy in the sale for cost reasons.

321cheese · 17/09/2018 21:34

Why is a really good question Irene. I think it's because modern fashion is all about straight lines and curves aren't fashionable. The tide will have to turn at some point though and then it'll be those with straight figures starting threads like this.

People are becoming more Apple shaped too Irene. I’m a healthcare professional who regularly measures waists and hips of my patients and find very few people with a low whr these days. Also suspect it’s cheaper to increase waist sizes and not bother cutting for thighs/bums- I often find that a 12, 14 and 16 trousers are almost the same width below the waist!

Although I’m probably unusual in that my waist at 26 weeks pregnant is still smaller than the widest point of my hips!

dontstopthepeach · 20/09/2018 20:57

Checking in! 5"6, 32G boobs, size 10-12 waist and 12-14 hips.

As you've all said, being smart isn't a problem. Being casual definitely is! I like high waisted skinny jeans, and I DO wear big baggy tops!!! But very very carefully chosen oversize/unfitted tops. Very drapey material so they sort of mold to my shape rather than just hang, and only with a shaped hem. The curve is somehow more flattering, if that makes sense?

dontstopthepeach · 20/09/2018 21:01

@gah81 I have a similar skirt but in moleskin that I bought from Seasalt a few years ago. Looks lovely with a fitted T and cropped cardigan, or a fitted (very) fine knit v-neck jumper, and thick tights and boots or brogues.

Movablefeast · 20/09/2018 21:10

I look at photos of Salma Hayek for inspiration, of course she is completely gorgeous but seeing the kind of outfits she wears and the cuts helps me know what to look for. She is very curvy and likes to show off her boobs in the evening but I like to check out her daywear outfits when she needs something more workable and modest.

I agree with paranormal that if you have lost your waist you can’t really claim to be an hourglass any longer! It’s showing off your waist that helps balance the look.

Movingonup41 · 04/10/2018 06:42

Thought I'd revive the thread to see if anyone has found any good buys lately.

I have just ordered a Joe Browns coat and some lush boots which I couldn't resist.

shearwater · 04/10/2018 06:48

Size 14, 34E, 5'7" here. I pretty much wear anything I like that fits properly and don't worry about whether it suits my shape.

CraftyYankee · 04/10/2018 13:22

I'm a very petite hourglass - 5'1" and just got a top similar to this:

Hope the link works! It's a Phase Eight with side ruching, which is flattering as it follows curves but the ruching provides a bit of camouflage for the tummy. With skinny jeans and ankle boots I feel casually chic (or as close as I'm going to get, I live in jeans and T's.)

duplodancer · 04/10/2018 16:10

@hendricksy @OneMoreForExtra
Just bought some Cobell trousers and the red oasis top! Thanks!

Viewfield · 04/10/2018 18:49

Yes, I've got a pair of the Robell trousers too - thank you (though I'm more of a pear than an hourglass sadly)

Ollivander84 · 04/10/2018 18:58

I just bought this, it's not perfect but it's black and glitter and fishtail! And cost me £19 in the sale (now sold out)

Any other hourglass shapes out there? All curves welcome
Gah81 · 05/10/2018 07:08

I have ordered this from Boden. My weekend wear is quite often a mini or midi skirt with boots or brogues as it just fits and suits me better. Fingers crossed I have got the right size!
