Anyone out there want to share good fashion finds? The whole boxy /v straight Cos look couldn't be further from my style.

I'd still love some recommendations for places that sell tops. Maybe there's just none out there as many seem to struggle...

I need tops too OP. I hardly have any. Most of mine are casual vests of one kind or another.

fieryginger · 09/09/2018 08:00

I never hear potato shape. I'm not pear, apple, hourglass - definitely potato shaped though. Not jersey mid even, big, gnarly king Edward shaped.

43 30 38 here. Where do you lot get your pencil skirts? I have yet to find one that is big enough on the hips or goes in enough at the waist. Even Viv of Holloway don't fit properly!
I usually wear fit and flare stuff and I have a million underskirts of various colours, lengths and fullness. I gave up on casual a long time ago!
I used Collectif for tops and coats (although I try to get the coats on sale; the quality doesn't match up with the price.) OP have a look at Collectif's Freddie tops. I have one in every colour and they are my main go to if wearing a skirt.

Paranormalbouquet · 09/09/2018 08:46

Tops are a nightmare. I desperately try to hang on to any that fit me well. Bought 2 lovely fitted but not clingy faux wrap tops in lk Bennett 2 seasons ago for example.

Possibly the only good thing about being a pregnant hourglass is the ease of getting wrap around tops!

Seriously considering doing a dressmaking course during my maternity leave.

Paranormalbouquet · 09/09/2018 08:48

Pangur2 if I find a pencil skirt that fits well on hips and has a high enough waist I get it altered to fit my waist.

vitaminC · 09/09/2018 09:26

Try Baukjen for skirts. I've had a few from there which fit perfectly with no alterations.

The best tops I've found recently were by Anna Field, at Zalando. Long enough for my long torso and fitted enough at the waist for my hourglass figure!

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 09/09/2018 10:04

I have a short torso so those Anna Field ones look too long for me. I have quite a few Anna Field shoes that I like though.

I need a blouse type top at the moment. Wondering if this might work:

I agree with trying tall ranges. I’m only 5’5” but my hips and boobs are big so they kind of ‘steal’ vertical inches from my clothes because they’re cut for people who don’t have bits that stick out much. The extra length covers those inches and makes the clothes hang better.

Has anyone seen any really nice casual autumn/winter dresses for hourglasses? I’ve looked at Pepperberry (or Bravissimo - whatever it’s called) and they’re all so frumpy and unfashionable.

vitaminC · 09/09/2018 11:18

I tend to buy most of my dresses from Esprit. There's a lot of choice on their website (and I'm lucky enough to have a large store nearby), and the quality is always good for the price.

beela · 09/09/2018 12:34

Following!

I'm an hourglass and have recently gone from being an overweight hourglass who wore baggy tops to hide the fact she looked 5 months pregnant to a not overweight hourglass!

Now I don't know where or what to buy, so looking out for recommendations Grin

Unobtainable · 09/09/2018 21:38

Thanks for the recommendation on Very jeans. I struggle with them being too stretchy and low cut so they gape.

I buy a lot from Oasis, Warehouse, Karen Millen, Esprit and Bejaukin. French Connection is good too and Phase Eight. So hard to find casual stuff though thats not black and smothered in floral prints.

Peachypips · 09/09/2018 21:45

Marking my place! 5'3, 32G boobs.

Lizzy1980 · 10/09/2018 08:03

I'm hourglass and have a love/hate relationship with my figure.
I wear a lot of boden dresses in the summer which are a nice fit and make me feel feminine. They have to be stretchy or fitted at the waist though or I look hefty. Dressing up is fairly easy, 50's style or bodycon dresses etc. I just bought this dress from Bravissimo and I'm pretty pleased with it. I'm 5.10" so have to be careful as things can come up a bit short and look tarty

Any other hourglass shapes out there? All curves welcome
chickedychicked · 10/09/2018 08:33

me too. I'm still at age 30+ taking everything to my mother to be altered, pulled in at the waist etc.. I should really learn to sew myself.
And I too look tarty in clothes that fit right and like a bowling ball with legs on in clothes that don't cinch in at the waist.

Lizzy1980 · 10/09/2018 08:48

Got a few everyday tops from oasis. They're long sleeved tshirt style but more dressy. They're flattering and come in lots of colours. Will post link

KnitFastDieWarm · 10/09/2018 09:10

Size 16 hourglass here, tending towards the pear with big bum and thighs. I have an 11 inch waist/hip difference so the era of low cut trousers was a bit traumatic Grin I think trousers at least are easier these days for us hourglasses thanks to the high, belted waist trend. new look do some nice high waisted jeans at the moment (Yasmin I think) although I still need a belt with them! I wear them rolled at the ankles with with tucked in lowish cut loose tops or oversized men’s shirts, and heeled ankle boots, docs or vintage Adidas trainers. I used to be a fan of the 50s look but I’ve realised as I’ve got older that I’m more comfortable looking a bit more edgy/less feminine. I do have some gorgeous jersey LK Bennett pencil dresses which I can dress up with heels or down with black tights, docs and a leather jacket.

myidentitymycrisis · 10/09/2018 11:28

Can anyone help me decide if I’m hourglass or not. I’m definitely curvy on top with a small waist but not super wide hips.

I’m 5’7 and I measure 30FF bra, 29 w and 37 hips, but I have a flat bum. I’m 51 and don’t like heels so never really wear dresses.

fleuriepeninsula · 10/09/2018 12:20

Does anyone here have an extremely classic style? Claire Underwood (House of Cards) is who I’d like to dress like when I grow up Grin

Vivian of Holloway & other vintagey brands make me shudder, Boden/Joules are a bit too casual (mostly). I love the idea of COS but it doesn’t love me.

I buy mostly from Hobbs (selectively), Jigsaw, Whistles, Me & Em, The Fold (when I can afford it), Gerard Darel, Massimo Dutti. Bits of Arket. The odd bit of Karen Millen (who does actually cut for hour glass shapes) and LK Bennett.

Casual is where I really struggle - I seem to end up in jeans, silk shirt or plain top, slim blazer a lot. Any other hourglasses prefer this style and if so where do you shop/wear casually!

KnitFastDieWarm · 10/09/2018 15:00

I think the first rule of hourglass casual is tucked in tops and/or belts/things with waists. Jackets and cardigans either need to end on the natural waist or be thigh length - anything remotely hip length makes my proportions look weird. If I try to do casual without tucking I look like a potato that’s let itself go Grin

KnitFastDieWarm · 10/09/2018 15:02

Casual is bloody hard though for hourglasses - I think only Marilyn Monroe has ever really come close to getting it right and even she had a few misfires Grin

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/09/2018 15:59

Yeah, if you look at Christina Hendricks in casual wear she seems to really struggle too!

321cheese · 11/09/2018 08:29

I am short Knit so thigh length is so unflattering. I go for high hip like this insideoutstyleblog.com/2017/09/top-lengths-for-skirts-and-pants.html

Fleurie - It's crazy how much we are all struggling with casual if we don't want to wear dresses
