I think that the predominantly African American sororities are still very much focused on work in the community and continue to function as service organizations with alumnae chapters.

mathanxiety · 31/08/2018 20:01

Yes, that is very true, Seneca, and they are also able to give African American women something of a leg up, mentorship, etc in employment.

Clionba · 31/08/2018 20:49

So true QueenOfTheAndals about CP Mary and Kate. Very similar taste as well. As you say, Princess Marie could easily be a sister to both! Anybody else thinks Brigitte Macron looks like Jane Fonda?

keiratwiceknightly · 31/08/2018 20:50

(I went to Mount Holyoke, math; the original women's college. An interesting experience for a state educated kid from a v down to earth British university but one I relished.

The young men of Amherst college nearby had a saying - Smith to wed (VERY expensive!), MoHo to bed (feisty!) and Wellesley to talk to (highest entry grades).

Sorry peeps back to royal style now Grin

The yacht rumours are from sites run by the sort of people who think Benedict Cumberbatch has been kidnapped and held against his will by his wife and Hillary Clinton ran a paedo ring out of a pizzeria. I wouldn't pay much attention to them.

Baby Alexander is so sweet in his little sash!

From Jezebel: Batshit Sorority Pledge Email. This isn't Meghan's sorority, but if hers enforced anything like the same standards, it would have been an excellent preparation for a future where the media would continually obsess over her hairstyle and the colour of her nail polish.

mathanxiety · 01/09/2018 05:35

(DD was in Barnard for her freshman year- her friends from high school called it Barnyard of course, and made farm animal noises when she approached the school principal for her high school diploma at graduation Smile. It was an interesting experience for DD too, coming from the midwest and from co-ed education from age 4. She missed football but loved NY.)

I understand that Andals re: gossip site. I suspect some of the rumours are born of misogyny and/or rascim.

Anyho. CP Mary really looks like Kate there!

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/09/2018 07:39

Queen Rania's outfit here is utterly covetable https://www.instagram.com/p/BnEcLNJBS2R/ Apparently it was her 48th birthday yesterday but the woman still doesn't look old enough to have adult children!

And does anyone do a massive hat and a dramatic sleeve like Maxima? https://www.newmyroyals.com/2018/08/dutch-king-and-dutch-queen-attended.html?m=1

Paradyning · 01/09/2018 07:43

They look amazing. Cannot wait for Max to get here

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/09/2018 08:05

Kate and Megs will need to up the drama to compete with Max. She just seems to love being queen and enters into everything with such enthusiasm. Random fact - the Netherlands has never had a Dutch-born consort.

Oh and we completely forgot what yesterday was - 21 years since Diana died. Here's a retrospective of her most memorable outfits.

The 80s were mostly a decade style forgot but she looks so mature and self-assured, even though she would've only be mid-20s then. Kate and Meghan seem more youthful in comparison, even though they're now older than she ever got to be.

The 90s were better and she really came into her own style-wise after she separated from Charles. The electric blue one-shouldered gown in photo 118 is probably my favourite of hers. I can actually remember when she wore it as she was on the cover of all the magazines.

the 80s were mostly a decade style forgot in the 80s we used to say that about the 70s Grin!
Max looks great, and seems to enjoy clothes and jewellery, which is great. Better to wear and enjoy a fab brooch than it sit in a box for years.

WipsGlitter · 01/09/2018 12:12

My goodness Kate and Meghan are older than Diana. Wow. That's so sad.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/09/2018 13:06

She just looked so mature. Like in this photo where she's only 24. She wouldn't even be 60 yet if she was alive.

I loved the 70s style Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci lol. Not to mention Biba,

OlennasWimple · 01/09/2018 19:08

I'd love to be able to wear those sleeves. I'd probably get them in my food and then lose a child in one if I tried

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/09/2018 23:07

Diana was a decade older than me so I didn’t notice that her style from aged about 23; she dressed like a 35 year old.
There is no taking away from the fact that she was so beautiful, but her hair styles and very tailored clothes made her appear older than her years.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/09/2018 08:50

Basically, in the mid-80s Diana was the same age as the likes of Ariana Grande or Miley Cyrus! Hard to believe isn't it?

OP posts:
BigGlasses · 03/09/2018 13:15

There are some reasonably dodgy mid 80s designs for Diana here on this BBC story www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45373872 . The burka with a bow leaves me a bit Confused

I do however like the Queen at the recent highland games, www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/09/01/queen-officially-unveils-new-highland-games-pavilion-annual/ I love that colour. Not so sure about Princess Anne's hat, what is that on it? Buttons? Shells?

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/09/2018 14:10

David Emmanuel has the same hairdo as Diana in that BBC story photo!

Talking of hair... Kate Middleton at the wedding of Lady Rose Gilman. Very flat hair!

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/09/2018 21:54

Before she had her own personal hairdresser!

Paradyning · 03/09/2018 21:55

And cleavage!!
I think her hair look better like that.
