Any word on whether it's going to be televised?

Clionba · 29/09/2018 13:18

Wasn't Andrew in talks with itv? BBC and Sky in his bad books, only having it as part of the rolling news Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 13:23

Eugenie Bridesmaids

Nothing on it being televised.
We’ll have to watch it on YouTube I guess.
I’m not that interested in the ceremony, but would like a good nose at the frocks.

Clionba · 29/09/2018 13:24

Me too, Curly I just want to look at the outfits!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 13:32

There is a Royal Family YouTube channel.

Follow the link at the bottom of the Hello article.
Apparently there will be tv cameras present, as they need clips for the news. So I guess it will be live streamed.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 13:38

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Not sure I trust the Express on the bridesmaids! The palace usually issues a press release closer to the date with details about the wedding so I expect we'll hear something next week.

It might be live streamed but would be a fairly basic view I think. While I love watching a royal wedding, I agreed that the BBC doing a full coverage in real time thing was ridiculous. Andrew really needs to accept his place has changed....

on that note, I hope Harry and Meghan learn some lessons from Andrew. Clearly they're much nicer than he ever was, but I remember when it was very much Prince Charles and Prince Andrew leading things. But as William and Henry grew up and Charles' role changed, he was relegated to a lesser role (and of course, his unreliability didn't exactly help). If I was Harry I'd be assuming that in 20 years time I'll be a LOT less relevant and planning accordingly - no prince/princesses for children, possible consideration of moving out of the country down the line (LA anyone?), independent projects etc.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 14:11

I would say that Harry & Meghan have totally got that message. Harry himself said no-one wants the top job.
I think there's big differences between Charles and Andrew & William and Harry; who have always been close.

Andrew is 12 years younger and Charles would have been heading to Gordonstoun when Andrew was a baby.
Even Charles and Anne who are very close in age are rarely seen together.

I think Harry & Meghan will be just fine taking care of the Commonwealth that is a huge undertaking anyway.

I think as a foursome the Cambridges and Sussexes will be mutually supportive. From her approach (low key fashion, under the radar projects) as we see more of Meghan, I do genuinely think she is not seeking the limelight, but she has the skills to be able to cope with it as part of her Job.

SenecaFalls · 29/09/2018 15:41

It also might make a difference that Andrew has been the son of the monarch his entire life. He has been used to a level of prominence and deference that, no doubt, has been difficult to relinquish as he has moved down the pecking order. Harry very likely won't become the son of the monarch until he is middle-aged, and I think he is fully prepared to continue to play lesser roles.

SenecaFalls · 29/09/2018 15:43

I fully admit that I love watching all aspects of royal wedding, but, yes, the clothes are of paramount interest.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 16:00

Good point Seneca, until his 30s Andrew was 2nd in line to the throne.
I remember in the 80s / 90s there was talk ( probably mainly in Fergie’s head) that Prince Andrew May have to be regent for Prince William till he was 18; because Charles was so unpopular.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 16:16

Gotta feel a bit sorry for Charles in a way. He's well past retirement age but is yet to start the job he was born to do!

Pannalash · 29/09/2018 16:16

Never heard that about Prince Charles Curly in the 80s he was still high in the popularity stakes due to the lovely Diana before the sad truth of their marriage became public.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 16:19

I think he was at his least popular in the mid-90s after the revelations about Camilla and the Andrew Morton book coming out.

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 17:05

I think it was about 92; or maybe came out afterwards when Fergie was talking about her divorce and how she thought they had to stay married because of the Regent thing. I’ll see if I can find a link. I don’t think I imagined it....

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 17:10

Here
It’s more gossip / Charles paranoia. But I do remember reading about it at the time...

Clionba · 29/09/2018 17:14

I remember when Fergie started to do all the chat shows, she said that a clairvoyant had told her that Andrew would be regent. In reality it would only have (possibly) happen if HM and Charles died when William was a minor. In the event, John Major was appointed as a guardian.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 17:20

Oh I didn’t know that about John Major. However I know he is Knight of the Garter and I think he was a trustee of their Trust from Diana.
Anyway, he must be close to William and Harry behind the scenes as he was sat in the quire for Harry & Meghan’s wedding.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 17:23

I think I knew that but don't ask me how!

I think he has been King in everything but name for quite some time. I would say at least since the Jubilee.
I think the worst part of the job has to be the red boxes. Paperwork every single day. Yeeuch. I wonder if Charles is Privy to their contents?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 17:24

Time for a new thread @Queen!

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 17:24

Right, I'd better start a new thread, given we've nearly reached 1000...

John Major was appointed when the Wales' marriage was particularly toxic. He has remained part of their circle. True, Curly since the diamond jubilee HM has gradually been handing more and more over to Charles. She lives mostly at Windsor.
