QueenOfTheAndals GrinGrin ha ha!!
So, so true about Andrea Casiraghi! I was thinking the same! Ageing as badly as the Hanovers (not his step dad, the UK branch)!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 28/09/2018 17:37

Andrea Casiraghi was hot when he was young, but approaching middle age has made home look a bit sleazy.
On the other hand, younger brother Pierre has definitely improved with age.

Charlene’s dress is horrid. Looks like a shroud. If it was in a lighter fabric, both in weight and colour I think it would have worked better for her. Interesting to see her and Albert holding hands. I guess she has finally got used to her role. I think she& Masako of Japan are the saddest princesses in the world....

Kate is back to work next Tuesday. Apparently she will be dressed down.

Maxima & Willem are due on the 23 and 24th. I hope she packs a ball gown with matching cape and enormous tiara for the state dinner. Also we need massive hats, bell sleeves and mad colours!

The next thread is going to fill up fast methinks @Queen.
October is a busy month!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 28/09/2018 17:47

@QueenOfTheAndals please call the new thread, Wax, Max, Euj & Megs! Grin as we know they are going to be the stars of October!

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/09/2018 17:59

Haha I will! This thread still has a bit further to go but I'll create a new one next week.

Lovely picture of Andrea C @CurlyWurlyTwirly - what the hell happened?? Pierre looks very like his father, which must be slightly painful as I doubt he even remembers him. So much tragedy in the Grimaldi family...

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/09/2018 18:05

Andrea's stepdad Prince Ernst of Hanover is a character and a half. He tried to take back one son's inheritance and then got so drunk at the other son's wedding that he was put in an induced coma to recover!

He and Princess Caroline are allegedly estranged but she won't divorce him because then she'll go back to being a Serene Highness rather than a Royal one.

And we should be very grateful that women have always been able to inherit the throne here, otherwise he'd be our king!!

OP posts:
Clionba · 28/09/2018 18:27

Yes, we sidestepped that one a bit. He's still in line, but way down!

Paradyning · 28/09/2018 19:33

Wonder when Charlotte C's baby is due. She is so stunning.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/09/2018 20:09

She is the image of her mother, who is still beautiful.

Prince Ernst is not well liked and Princess Caroline was my favourite ever Royal. She was and is stunning and has had tragedy and heartache in her life.

SenecaFalls · 28/09/2018 21:28

Those Hanover royals are pushing it a bit to call themselves HRHs, in my opinion. Another former royal family clinging to titles in spite of their former kingdoms and duchies having evolved into republican forms of government.

user1457017537 · 28/09/2018 22:28

I agree they do cling to their defunct titles don’t they

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 08:08

They're still not as bad as the "King" of the Hellenes. Greece hasn't had a monarchy since the 70s yet he and his family still use their royal titles.

When he dies then will his son become "King" too? I bet he will, as I can't see Marie-Chantal turning down the chance to call herself Queen! Am I the only one who finds her irritating?

This is interesting - Wikipedia on the Grandparents of Europe, ie, how almost all the monarchs are descended from Queen Victoria, Christian IX if Denmark, or both. The mind boggles at how incestuous it all is! Prince Philip is on track to become their longest-living descendent if he lasts another year...

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 10:39

That wikipaedia link didn’t work for me. However Christian IX was almost as prolific as Queen Victoria.

I didn’t realise that Queen Alexandra (wife of EdwardVIi) was his daughter. So HM and Phillip are cousins through him too as well as Queen Victoria.

Also he was the Grandfather of the last Tsar Nicolas through his daughter. Would have been so interesting to still have a Russian Royal Family. I guess there are a few Romanovs knocking around....

SenecaFalls · 29/09/2018 10:57

There is a Romanov Family Association currently presided over by Princess Olga Andreevna, who grew up in the UK, and supposedly was once considered as a possible bride for Prince Charles.

SenecaFalls · 29/09/2018 11:01

Prince Philip provided DNA to help identity the bodies found that proved to be Tsar Nicholas II and his family who were killed in 1918.

Clionba · 29/09/2018 11:03

Yes, wasn't the late Tsarina his aunt?

SenecaFalls · 29/09/2018 11:10

Yes, she was his great aunt. His grandmother was her sister.

Clionba · 29/09/2018 11:15

Right. Great aunt. I knew it must have been on the maternal line as they used him as a DNA match as pp said.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/09/2018 11:34

Sorry about the link fail, try this one https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoyaldescendantsofQueenVictoriaandKingChristianIX

I was utterly fascinated by the story of Anastasia so it was gutting when all the Romanov bodies were identified and it turned out none of them escaped.

There's currently an exhibition at the Science Museum in London about Nicholas II and the search for the Romanov remains.

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 29/09/2018 11:35

Philip was closely related to Nicholas as well on the Danish side of his family. They were first cousins once removed. Nicholas's mother and Philip's grandfather were siblings, children of Christian IX.

user1457017537 · 29/09/2018 12:24

Eugenie has a paint range by Valspar inspired by the colours of her hats and fascinators. Who knew? She is apparently inspiring interior design trends

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/09/2018 12:34

I think the link with Eugenie is very tenuous.
Whoever tried to match the colours must be colour blind.
Indigo walls and violet blue fascination; cranberry walls and magenta hat. Etc...
Eugenie’s combination of violet dress and lime green hat is horrendous.
Just a couple of weeks till the wedding.....!

Clionba · 29/09/2018 12:42

..... and already souvenirs are on sale! Anyone going to buy some commemorative china?
