Crikey that hat looks like the kind made of tacos that you eat guacamole out of!

I watched the queen of the world documentary on ITV today. I really liked the blue dress that Meghan was wearing, and the detailing on her veil was beautiful. I also thought she came across really lovely. I like that she seems happy to include the things that are important to Harry in her own life and work. There were some other lovely outfits on the queen on the commonwealth tour were absolutely lovely.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 27/09/2018 18:42

That hat 😂🙈

Paradyning · 27/09/2018 18:46

God how I love Max! Love that dress. King Philippe is like wtf!

Paradyning · 27/09/2018 18:48

Hmmm maybe it isn't King P. Certainly looks like him

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/09/2018 18:50

I watched the documentary too. Meghan is a huge PR asset in terms of the Commonwealth. Being an actress she is very Media Savvy; I think that is why she has been so high profile in the show, which will probably be shown in other common wealth countries.
Harry being Common wealth youth ambassador is a really high profile role, internationally. William will be King in about 25+ years, so he and Kate will Probaly do the visiting foreign royals and heads of state if Charles is getting on. Good division of the roles.

SenecaFalls · 27/09/2018 19:30

I love Maxima. The look on her face in some of those pictures is almost as though she is saying: "if you put this thing on your head, you would look ridiculous. I, on the other hand, am completely fabulous." I love her confidence.

Clionba · 27/09/2018 19:31

Yes, she just goes for it! She's great.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/09/2018 23:16

@CurlyWurlyTwirly I agree that Meghan is very media savvy. In the doc she came across as lovely and charming yet down to earth, but I also sensed she has a core of steel and knows what she wants. In a way, it's combination that reminds me of the Queen Mum!

As a commonwealth citizen I find it a bit annoying and patronising that Harry and Meghan suddenly feel this need to care about and look after us. We have been getting along just fine. I doubt Meghan had even heard of the commonwealth before this year.
Love Max's attitude to clothes. She just seems so comfortable in her own skin and must make people feel at ease around her.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/09/2018 23:23

She lived in Canada for many years - I'm sure she'd heard of the Commonwealth!

I'm fairly sure that even before moving to Canada, she had heard of the Commonwealth. She has a degree in International Studies.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 28/09/2018 06:30

Completely agree. I think Queen Mum was nicknamed a steel marshmallow.! Meghan could not have survived Hollywood and her nightmare paternal family’s interference if she wasn’t tough.

She totally gets her role in the Royal Family and approaches it professionally like a job. Harry hit the jackpot with her.

Kate didn’t have the life experience before William so has grown into the role organically. They are both Professional Duchesses, as opposed to “Blood Princesses”!

beanaseireann · 28/09/2018 07:33

The hat is way too big even for Maxima.
The dress is more for an evening cocktail party a la Ferrero Rocher ad.

user1457017537 · 28/09/2018 07:43

I think I will reserve judgment on MM. She is, however, very beautiful and stylish, if a bit contrived.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/09/2018 08:22

The Monaghesque royals have also been out and about lately. Charlene's dress would look fabulous on someone like Maxima but just looks a bit depressing on her. Mind you, Albert can't be much fun as a husband, though she seems marginally happier since the twins were born.

And what happened to Andrea Casiraghi? He used to be gorgeous but now looks like Bradley Cooper's seedy younger brother.

Can’t seem to warm to Meghan, although I really want to. She is an actress, and I can’t help feeling that what we’re seeing is an act.
She has peculiar body language and it all just sets my teeth on edge for reasons I can’t yet fathom.

Also have an irrational dislike of her centre parting, with its Wallis Simpson vibe. I know it’s only because of the way her weave is stitched but it irks me all the same.

But her mother is magnificent.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/09/2018 09:18

I don't think she wears a weave, she just straightens her hair.

OP posts:
BlingLoving · 28/09/2018 10:15

I think Meghan does "act" to a point - I often think she walks or talks like she's on the red carpet at the Oscars. But I think that's understandable and over time she'll lose some of that Hollywood self consciousness.

I agree that her and kate are both focusing on the Duchess part as a job and doing it well, if differently. But I think Kate's experience was completely different - she was english so grew up with the whole royal family thing. And she was a lot younger. It was also a different time - not least because it was still relatively close to when Diana died and both Harry and william were still clearly very angry. So she grew into it slowly and a lot of her work "skills" have been learnt on the job. While Meghan has come into it after Kate's been there establishing processes for 10 years and with her own unique skill set already well established. It's a bit like someone who's worked for a company since graduation vs the hotshot who comes into a senior role later - they'll have different approaches based on different experiences.

Jackietheduck · 28/09/2018 10:15

I think she straightens her hair too. I imagine herhair would be like her mum’s hair if I straightened. She doesn’t look like she wears one either.

Jackietheduck · 28/09/2018 10:18

FFS I should should rewrite that entirely. I meant to write. I think Meghan just straightens her hair too. I think if she did not straighten it, it might be like her mother’s hair and I don’t think Doria wears a weave either?

Just to add I really have no idea and don’t have any experience of them. I wouldn’t recognise one unless it was a very obvious one or a very bad one.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 28/09/2018 10:36

That's a really interesting way of describing it bling!

ajandjjmum · 28/09/2018 11:02

Funnily enough, Meghan's birthday is on the same day as the Queen Mum.

TheCraicDealer · 28/09/2018 11:08

I think she has a weave or extensions of some description, she has a lot of body and it's not like she has to worry about the cost or bother of maintenance. Honestly I'm surprised when any woman in the public eye appears to have grown all of her hair herself. You just need to see pre-engagement photos of Kate to realise there's clearly a few extensions hiding in there!

user1457017537 · 28/09/2018 11:29

I’ll bet that MM’s hair, and KM’s hair has extensions. MM’s hair is completely different from when she was young and you don’t get that look just by straightening.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 28/09/2018 16:24

Blimey, it’s the size of a sombrero!

Well she is from South America...

It seems her sleeves and hats are in competition.
