Possible, although it would have to involve someone dying young and they're a much healthier lot these days! George VI's death was all the more tragic because it could've been avoided had he not been a chain smoker for years.

But wasn't he encouraged to smoke as they thought that was a way to cure his stammer? And his stammer wouldn't have been so important if he hadn't become King? I'm sure this is yet another reason why the Queen Mother hated David. *

Not sure. They all smoked back in those days though - wasn't it seen as very fashionable?

I had a summer job at the Daily Mail (sorry) when Wallis Simpson's estate auctioned off her jewellery. The Mail bought a brooch and ran it as a competition prize. I had to choose the winner and write her a letter. I always wondered what Mavis from Petts Bottom did with the brooch.

He probably smoked more because of the stress of the job, especially through the war, when he knew all the secret stuff that the public didn't know.

The QM is supposed to have always held David responsible for her husband's early death. Although the king undoubtedly did a better job than David would have done.

Oh yes, David would've been dreadful. It sounds like he had severe mother issues too. Some historians now believe that Wallis didn't really want to marry him but felt she had no choice after he abdicated.

Maxima has been at the UN, wearing another one of those outfits only she can get away with - a caped coat and a dress featuring brocade and fake fur!

I think Maxima seems a bit bemused by Ivanka’s (fake) greeting.
Honestly, you could get a fist in that mouth!
However, her bleached hair is in much better condition than maxima.

Somewhere there is a photo of Mary of Denmark sitting next to Pence's wife and Melania at the UN. Can't link on phone but it is quite a moment. No wonder that seat was free for her to slip in to.

Given that most of European royalty is at the UN this week, has anyone seen any of our lot?

I'm not sure why all these European Royals are at the UN. Does anyone know? In other news, William is in Africa, but it doesn't seem to be in the media much.

I'm glad they're going to the Royal Pavilion, it's amazing. Maybe they'll get some interior decor ideas. I know I did!
