I knew about Margaret Tudor of course, but that was quite a long time ago! I agree that it could've been to do with being born in Scotland.

The regnal numbers were agreed BigGlasses at the Act of Union. The principal is that the later number applies. I don't think that there was agreement on this at the Act of Union. There was a court case decided early in Elizabeth II (of England's) reign that the regal number is the sovereign's prerogative, and at the time Churchill suggested that the practice be followed in future using the higher number. But even today you don't see much use of the II number in Scotland with the present Queen. The next test case will likely be William, who would be William V of England, but William III of Scotland.

I'm not against navy and black together but I'm not sure the cut of Meghan's top quite goes with her trousers. It looks more like it was designed to go with a pencil skirt, but that wouldn't have been very conducive to playing netball!

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/09/2018 16:44

There's been a King William of Scotland so would William then be V and IV or just go as V? That day is at least 20 years away.

I like love her outfit, thanks Harpy

dinosaurkisses · 24/09/2018 16:56

I like her outfit, and it’s nice seeing her hair down. What always confuses me is the overly formal outfits they wear when they visit sporty or outdoorsy places. There’s always an awkward photo of the woman of the pair trying to throw a netball or swing a hockey stick while wearing court shoes.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/09/2018 17:10

Yes, that is a bit odd, though these days Kate usually wears sporty gear for these kinds of events and seems much more comfortable at those. I'm not sure Meghan is a trainers kind of gal - she loves her stiletto heels!

Yes, dinosaurkisses I don't know why they don't go to sporting visits in trainers, or at least flats! Someone's going to get a broken ankle one day. According to the agreement, it would be William V, QueenOfTheAndals.

SenecaFalls · 24/09/2018 17:19

There's been a King William of Scotland so would William then be V and IV or just go as V? I did forget about William the Lion, King of Scots. That's an interesting question because in Elizabeth's case, there had never been an Elizabeth as monarch of Scotland, but where there is a precedent for the name, maybe it's not as tricky.

Clionba · 24/09/2018 17:32

The ruling was that she was the second Elizabeth to be anointed, however cross some Scots were!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/09/2018 18:10

I am wincing at Meghan wearing stiletto heels on a basketball court She is not going to get many invitations to billionaire's yachts if she keeps wrecking floors with her stilettoes.

WipsGlitter · 24/09/2018 18:20

I hate those trousers. Agree Kate is more willing to appear in sportswear.

Is the blouse designed to hide a bump?!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/09/2018 18:20

Kate always wears appropriate clothes for sporty events (apart form the red suit to play cricket.) One thing you can say about Kate is she is always appropriately dressed. Meghan is slim and fit (yoga and running) but I don't think she comes across as sporty.

Wish I looked that good in sportswear. I always come across as total frump.

I quite like navy and black together but not keen on that outfit. Gorgeous hair though, what a beautiful colour.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/09/2018 18:30

I think Kate's natural style and personality come out more when she is in casual clothes. She looks so stiff in the formal court wear.

keiratwiceknightly · 24/09/2018 18:31

On the Margaret thing, don't forget that she and Elizabeth were minor royals at the time of their births - they were not expected to be in the line of succession. It's like princess Anne choosing that non-royal name of Zara for her child.

Jackietheduck · 24/09/2018 18:35

From reading the How to look Parisan. black and French blue go together perfectly well. Im going to be the one to come out and say it ...... is she deliberately wearing clothes that disguise her stomach area these days 😀

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/09/2018 18:53

+is she deliberately wearing clothes that disguise her stomach area these days* Yes I agree, that blue ruffle front dress, the weird pleated skirt at the book launch and todays peplum top. However I read that in her next royal engagement, there is the risk of the ziki virus and she is advised not to be pregnant up to 6 months after the trip....I'm off to google

evilharpy · 24/09/2018 18:57

I love all of Kate’s outfits in that link. She looks so much happier dressed down.

skyscanner · 24/09/2018 19:02

Agree that Kate looks better dressed down. I think Meghan looks completely inappropriately dressed for baseball!

user1457017537 · 24/09/2018 19:26

Her hair looks completely different to normal.

WipsGlitter · 24/09/2018 19:34

Agree her hair looks odd. I presume it's chemically straightened so maybe it's wearing off?

Royal style (and occasionally gossip): thread 3
Clionba · 24/09/2018 19:37

That's the only time I've seen her hair look less than perfect! She has it straightened and conditioned, but it looks like the ends are curling up and dry, doesn't it? The only way she'd be pregnant was if she was giving this tour a miss, which would be a bit bad.

Jackietheduck · 24/09/2018 20:00

I’ve had my hair chemically straightened and it looked like this when it was freshly and quickly blow dried.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/09/2018 20:09

Her hair today looks like mine does if I straighten it myself at home rather than go to the hairdresser. All the other times she looks like she's had it professionally blow dried but maybe she only had time for a quick GHDing today!
