True. She tried to stop her son Edward marrying Katherine Worsley because she thought the latter was not from a good enough background!

ajandjjmum · 14/09/2018 11:39

Wasn't she from 'trade'? Grin Her father owned cloth making factories in the North? She always seemed so lovely, although struggled with MH after having a late miscarriage. Apparently she taught the piano in later years, and her pupils knew her as Mrs. Kent.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/09/2018 11:51

Father was a baronet, according to Wikipedia. There's been stories that she and the duke unofficially separated years ago but appear together at royal functions. He's always come across as a bit pompous but he's been duke since he was about 5 or 6.

Another story I've heard about Princess Marina is that she referred to the Queen and Princess M as "those common little Scottish girls". Am guessing she changed her tune once HM married her cousin!

In a frenzy.... am sorry to but in, and I know I will be shot down for even looking at a woman’s style when I should really be considering her brains and authority, and she’s not Royal, but I need to get it off my chest.
Won’t someone get Teresa May out of those godawful short button under the bust jackets.
There I’ve said it..... runs off.

WipsGlitter · 14/09/2018 14:46

@Minimammoth the main problem TMay has is her posture! Stand up straight woman.

Minimammoth · 14/09/2018 15:11

I suspect there is a kyphosis (spinal curve), so maybe can’t be helped.

beanaseireann · 14/09/2018 15:29

Queen
Princess Marina had her hands full with her Dh !!

Clionba · 14/09/2018 17:08

She did! Prince George was "not safe in taxis"!

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/09/2018 17:23

Wasn't he rumoured to have fathered Princess Di's stepmum? Seems that if it moved, he shagged it!

His Wikipedia entry is certainly intriguing. I wonder who the mysterious man aboard the plane was?

Just watching the Margaret documentary. Anthony Armstrong Jones was very handsome!!!

Clionba · 14/09/2018 18:26

He was gorgeous. Margaret was beautiful in her youth, but somehow seemed to lose the bloom early on. She didn't suit 60s fashion. Great documentary.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/09/2018 18:54

But she came back with a vengeance in the 70s with her caftans and turbans!

Btw I can’t believe I’ve not asked this before, but who’s watched The Crown? The actress playing Margaret was excellent.

Clionba · 14/09/2018 19:07

Me!! Loved it! I thought the bisexuality and child by Camilla Fry was a scriptwriter's imagination! Great series. Both of them.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/09/2018 19:14

Snowden couldn't keep it in his pants! His second wife divorced him when she found out he'd fathered a son with a journalist about 30 years his junior. He was pushing 70 by then and still at it!

Clionba · 14/09/2018 19:30

Good lord. I wonder if he tried it on with anyone else in the royal family?? Shock

SenecaFalls · 14/09/2018 19:45

but who’s watched The Crown?

I have, and more than once.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 14/09/2018 19:58

Absolutely obsessed with The Crown. Obsessed. Bit gutted about the cast change for the next series but crossing all my fingers. They are all excellent actors at least.

PurpleNailVarnish · 14/09/2018 20:43

Snowdon definitely had a daughter by Camilla Fry, DNA tests proved this in 2008. He was godfather to his own daughter.
She's Snowdon's daughter rather than the daughter of Jeremy Fry, it's not the figment of anyone's imagination.

As for the bisexuality? Who knows other than the people involved?

YearOfYouRemember · 14/09/2018 20:56

I suppose it is unusual to have literally only one family member at a wedding!

Ouch. I had one relative at my wedding.

Not ouch at the poster who said this but at the realisation that's all I had.

I'm loving this thread. It's an unexpected delight.

user1457017537 · 14/09/2018 22:46

I loved the Crown and it was my guilty pleasure. I loved the style, fashions, cars, castles, interiors and furnishings. Sheer luxury considering what ordinary people had and their standard of living compared to the extravagance of the Royals. I can’t say I’m enamoured of Olivia Colman being cast as QE I think it will be a stretch.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/09/2018 22:50

Helena BC as Margaret is slightly odd casting too, as she's several years OLDER than Olivia Colman. The young actor playing Charles looks the part though, and is spot-on in the ears department!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/09/2018 07:48

I adored the Crown. Didn’t get into it initially then binge watched it.
I thought Clare Foy was amazing but the most watchable was Vanessa Kirby as PM. Her accent and clothes were fab!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/09/2018 07:52

Series 4 will be awesome. Those will be the Diana years.
The Royal Family up till the end of the 20th century were a soap Opera.
There is nothing to put into a season 5. The royal family is so carefully stage managed; there are no huge characters in the core royal family any more
