Sarah Chatto is delightful, and was so sweet in that documentary. She leads a very private life, is modest and low key. Margaret was not a hands on mother, and famously employed several nannies (as many of them do!)
I did enjoy the Margaret documentary. She as an intelligent and artistic person, and it's a shame that she didn't find a more positive outlet for that.

Royal gift policy www.royal.uk/sites/default/files/media-packs/gifts_policy_2003.pdf No mention of bonfires!

Well they're not going to tell us about it are they?? Wink Grin

I remember seeing photos of princess Margaret's funeral and Sarah started crying and the Queen was straight over hugging her.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 13/09/2018 13:06

I'm sure she would've made a marvellous queen or grand duchess of some other country!

Yes!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/09/2018 15:08

Here’s a retrospective of

She is absolutely tiny if you see her next to Diana or Kate.
And not a scrap of make-up. She’s very natural and unspoilt.

Clionba · 13/09/2018 17:18

Lady Sarah is so elegant. I love that grey outfit! She was rocking the boat neck before Megs! Very nice hats, clean lines, basic colours. I like that she often wears a little cardi to events.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/09/2018 17:25

Her wedding dress really is one of my all-time favourites.

Lady Helen Taylor is another one who’s very elegant. I think she had a contract with Armani at one point.

She is so utterly normal - in a good way Smile
Apparently she wears her mother’s earrings to all important events such as weddings

Clionba · 13/09/2018 17:44

QueenOfTheAndals - her wedding dress is one of my all time favourites too! Beautiful. Lady Helen had that arrangement with Armani, much the same as her niece's arrangement with Chanel.

ajandjjmum · 13/09/2018 18:38

Sarah does seem the total opposite of her mother, in terms of style. Not being critical of either!

mathanxiety · 13/09/2018 19:06

I always get Princess Margaret and Elizabeth Taylor mixed up in my head.

Clionba · 13/09/2018 19:25

They had a very similar look and style didn't they?

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/09/2018 20:16

Isn't there a story about Margaret telling Liz Taylor one of her diamond rings was the most vulgar thing she'd ever seen? Apparently Liz agreed and then offered to let her try it on!

OP posts:
beanaseireann · 13/09/2018 20:17

Lady Helen is beautiful but so was her mother

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/09/2018 20:20

The Duchess of Kent has always come across as a lovely person so it was a bit sad to see her looking so frail at Harry's wedding.

OP posts:
PodgeHog · 13/09/2018 20:21

Yes! Princess M saw Liz’s massive diamond and sniffily said it was vulgar and Liz said to try it on and then when Princess M was admiring it on her own finger, Liz said “not so vulgar now, is it?!”

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/09/2018 20:24

Lady Helen's grandmother Princess Marina was also very elegant. Apparently she thought a lot of herself and looked down on the Queen Mum as she was 'only' an earl's daughter rather than a princess!

Grin a sassy lady was Liz...

Paradyning · 13/09/2018 20:52

I love her 21st birthday portrait. Wonder if her father took it.
Her wedding dress is so beautiful. One of my favourites along with Mette-Marit's

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/09/2018 21:18

He was very talented wasn't he? I like that hilarious photo of Princess Margaret in the bath, wearing just a tiara and a huge smile.

Just settling down to watch that doc on Princess M now...

I agree. Lady Sarah's dress had a lovely historical reference without being costumey.

SenecaFalls · 14/09/2018 01:11

I have read this, too. The old blood princess vs princess by marriage business. Plus Marina was from continental European royal houses that put great store in royals marrying other royals. She was Prince Philip's first cousin, by the way.
