The sunshine might be fading from our passion fruit punch but we're looking forward to what autumn will bring.

I LOVE that coat Elle, it looks amazing.

I can't wear much cream though as I am a complete muckatron, I seem to invite filth, I was standing under a tree last Friday insouciantly smoking a fag whilst waiting to go to a meeting and a bird kindly shat on my head.

I think I styled it out...

ToElleWithIt · 07/09/2018 14:48

I love it. I hope you swept it through your hair and rocked it.

The coat is my work coat. It practically lives in the office because it (and anything dry clean only) is a magnet for my sticky-handed, snotty-nosed, mucky-footed kids.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/09/2018 15:05

As my hair is pewter anyway that's pretty much what I did!

I feel your pain re sticky children. Mine are older now, but I remember many a sorrowful day when they and their friends would douse themselves with expensive scent, break a good few Chanel lipsticks whilst making themselves up and come parading down with my shoes and clothes on for my edification.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/09/2018 15:15

Talking of Yoox, I haven't bought from them for about 15 years. I did lots when they first appeared but then found their prices creeping up so there didn't seem to be much discount and the stock wasn't that great. Is it worth revisiting?

XingMing · 07/09/2018 15:47

Elle, you are tres chic in that picture. The coat is bliss, but I completely get the need for it to live beyond reach of the sticky snotty brigade.

I sniggered in juvenile fashion at the little blessing! It reminds me of a daft rhyme on the subject which concludes:
"Angry farmer wiped his eye, and thanked the Lord that cows don't fly".

My Yoox bargain sneakers should arrive on Tuesday. It wasn't the best picture, but they have copper metallized trims so should work with most of my clothes. The main leather bits are dark grey, but I do admire the current season version again yesterday, through the window, as I went to collect the unfixed wide leg COS jeans. Having tried these on again, I think I have become more accustomed to the higher waist look over the summer, so I shall wear them a couple of times to work out the styling. They will need small heels/lifts, a belt and either a short jumper or a tucked in blouse to get the proportions right.

It's been a fantastic sunny day here, so the plan to put away summer stuff has been postponed.

XingMing · 07/09/2018 15:48

...admired the current...

XingMing · 07/09/2018 15:51

Adding my appreciation of the stole... but I don't want to need them again quite yet. The summer malarkey is great; just wish we had one every year.

The musings on 70s interiors have been interesting; anyone yearning for an avocado bathroom again yet?

ChesterBelloc · 07/09/2018 16:55

Love the stole, and COS knotted top, and really like those blue boots, Hairy - where are they from?

quirkychick · 07/09/2018 17:07

Nice stole, hairy. I have a vintage, velvet jacket and I wear it loads .

Wearing my "new" (to me) wide-legged, pinstripe linen trousers with a Uniqlo extra fine merino jumper, dressed down with converse with a leopard print scarf this morning in the cold and later with my Ilse Jacobsen raincoat for school pick up, as it was raining.

CatherineMaitland that sounds chic.

quirkychick · 07/09/2018 17:11

I commented and realised I'd missed this page!

Elle gorgeous coat and I love all those berry colours.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/09/2018 17:49

The boots are ((www.kurtgeiger.com/women/shoes/boots/ankle/rida-navy-suede-carvela-comfort Carvela)) Chester.

Have ordered the velvet jacket, will sée how it goes.

Must stop spending now as I'm trying to get my parents to look after the DCs so DH and I can go and see Patti Smith in NYC at the end of the month so need NYC fashion spends!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/09/2018 17:50

Sorry crappy link boots for Chester

ChesterBelloc · 07/09/2018 18:05

Thank you - I'm tempted!

Peregrane · 07/09/2018 19:50

This thread gives me so much joy, from botemp’s similes (trousers pooling like foreskin) to Hairy’s reminiscences of the sticky brigade’s shenanigans and the verse about poo from the sky 😄

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/09/2018 20:15

Pleased to hear it Peregrane.

And in even better news I'm now off to NYC on the 21st for Patti Smith and retail heaven.

Get in!

botemp · 07/09/2018 20:28

Xiao, it's been a few weeks since I looked at the IdlF collection, but I remember it much more as 1940's. Then again the 40s and 70s have a lot of overlap, as I assume that was just the vintage clothes available at the time.

Hairy, I was going to offer to share my boots list for other options that I keep on Shoptagr but selfishly I don't want to undermine the NYC fashion spends as I want to see it all. but will share if I must WRT Yoox it's handy for things like the boots, if you have something very specific in mind, the filters are pretty good. I also check it for obscure brands that I don't want to pay full price on and aren't that popular on which I wait out the price and I'm not all that mournful if I lose out on it. They do a lot of limited offers so it's just a matter of striking when the price is right. It used to be a lot simpler and cheaper than in the early days.

Is the velvet jacket navy or black? I like velvet but always find it a bit dusty looking in black unless it's proper velvet which is a rare thing to come across these days. Brita stole and new purchases look great too.

Your outfit sounds lovely, Catharine, and great to hear it made you the recipient of complimentsSmile

Elle, the tone on tone looks great and love the white coat with it. I may have seen that shirt from COS in the shop, possibly a different colour, they often get things in the shop before it's online.

UW = United Wardrobe, it's a bit like depop, I think active in the Benelux, France and Germany for now.

Yoox deliveries vary with me, can be anything from 2 days to a week, I find if you order on the weekend it always takes longer to dispatch.

Xing, not sure I'm ready to revisit avocado bathrooms but I would like to see a bit more adventure with natural stone and marble happening that isn't Carrara marble.

Peregrane, I'm a very visual person, can't help but inflict vivid imagery on others Halo

Okay mememe time. Went to Mango and am all for winter white. I'll figure out the whole keeping it white later. The brown houndstooth coat I went in for wasn't there despite the website saying they had stock Wink but was easily distracted by the off white skirt. They also had 70s boots in black but they do not pass the foreskin test.

I then tried on lovely white roll neck dress/jumper on top and loved the effect. Not that keen on the material as it's a lot of synthetic despite being labeled as wool
blend Hmm Think I'm going to be hard pushed to find a natural version though as the weight would just be too much unless it's cashmere and that would cost a fortune.

Also tried on the suede jacket from the mood boards posted previously, liked it but it was more plummy than I expected and despite it being a flattering colour on me I seem to have an aversion to it Confused

They didn't have the matching trousers but did have a skirt to go with it, had only grabbed the camisole as I liked the colour with the suede pieces, but was actually quite taken with the caramel tone. A bit overpriced for what it is though. Shorter skirt pics show the foreskin issues, it makes a weird bottleneck and it was already sitting oddly high at the knees which wasn't helping much either. Still on the fast fashion abstention period but it's over pretty soon, think I'll go back for the skirt.

Totally with you, Peregrane. This thread is like going to a party every day, filled with like-minded people who have very different thoughts but a similar outlook, and it's so enjoyable, always interesting, sometimes thought provoking. It's one of two threads I post on regularly, and the one where I would most like to meet everyone face to face.

botemp · 07/09/2018 20:40

Did end up ordering this Cashmere and Merino oversized jumper from the ninety percent site. I mentioned it a while back, they were the ones sharing the profits with those that made the garments and select charities. They currently have everything at 70% off in the sale so it felt like a good buy at £84 as it looks like a heavy quality, but I'll wait and see what it's like in the flesh. Had previously admired it but thought it was a touch spendy for an unknown (to me) brand. I got the white, was tempted by the red though.

They also had a cardi coat version but not available in white (grey marl is the other option).

Face to face? I don't know if I could handle you all realising my face is actually that blurry Shock Grin I always wonder if you dabble in creative writing, Xing, you have a lovely tone of phrase.

Oh, and obviously, properly EnvyEnvyEnvy about Patti Smith. I grew up singing along to her cassettes with my mother in the car. We always ended up altering the lyrics because I barely understood it and ended up with our own songs. Some of my most favourite memories.

Interesting pictures Bo. If one were burnt out of house and home, most of MN would be thrilled to find such flattering clothes. I think we have the bar set very very high!

With my hypercritical hat on.... The boots don't fold softly, and the suede "suit" is just a bit "American" for me. (Not that I have anything against America; I lived there for years and loved it.) Just not quite... Parisienne. The skirt looks really wearable, but if the colour isn't for you... is there an alternative? An olive green perhaps, she dreams....

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/09/2018 21:01

I love the cami on you Bo, it really suits your skin-tone.

DH and I saw Patti in London in June and we both love her and she's fucking amazing, I was looking for a weekend away for us around our wedding anniversary and she'd just released a few NY gigs, so we're off.

XingMing · 07/09/2018 21:13

I used to put words in the mouths of Fortune 100 CEOs, Bo, to please and flatter their shareholders to earn my crusts. Sadly, I got older than my clients and they wanted youthful cool, and stopped caring about grammatical competence or intellectual credibility. So I had DS, and then tried (and failed epically with assistance from politicians) to be a teacher. I was freelance for a long time, but my last proper job was with a global design and branding agency in London and NY.

XingMing · 07/09/2018 21:18

It went rather spectacularly bankrupt on August bank holiday 1990. By which time I had just escaped to freelance.

Loved Patti Smith back in 1978. Saw her in Cardiff.
