My money is going to be on some of that Byredo ending up in clearance

I agree! There was a lot of it and it wasn't going anywhere (although the Adidas and Burberry gift sets were fair flying off the shelves Wink). I'm going to keep a close eye on La Tulipe...

Lotsofpots · 15/09/2018 11:14

It's cool but sunny and bright here and I don't have an appropriate perfume. I've got lots of spicy/powdery/sweet scents that get me through proper dark winter days, but what does one wear in this type of weather?!

On that note, are we allowed to stray into candles? Trying to identify the right smell for the house in autumn too (on mat leave and Home a lot so this sort of shit suddenly matters A LOT).

teta · 15/09/2018 11:34

Judy our spaniel is a cocker too. They’re such lovely dogs with cheeky personalities. I’m sure ours thinks he’s a human child. He definitely acts like one of the kids.
I’m perusing the Tk website for Chergui. If anyone sees a bottle I would be happy to go halves. The Byredo is so expensive and I’m trying to rationalise my perfumes at the moment. I will list some jo malone and others on eBay tomorrow after a sort out.
lotsofpots I wear woody, fruity or aromatic greens at this time of year. Also intense florals smell good as the weather cools down.I save my sweetest ones like Battito d Ali for seriously cold weather.

Tried the Tom Ford properly today, too heavy. It’s given me a slight headache.

Washing here as well Mrs8 it’s damp outside though so will have to use the drier.

MrsLucas · 15/09/2018 18:29

Adora - there is a Primark sort of clone of BO, called Noir, usually in the Mens section.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/09/2018 18:37

SOTD is Liz Earle 15. Autumnal.

If anyone sees Byredo Bibiotheque in TKM, holler - I plan to buy it next month and will glad,y PayPal money to anyone who spies it for cheaps.

Thanks MrsLucas I’ll keep that in mind, although I don’t often get to the nearest town with a Primark.

UnnecessaryFennel · 15/09/2018 22:37

I'm not sure I would want to smell sex bob 😂

I've been IA, but Express' talk of Dioressence caught my eye - oh how I love old formula Diors...

Dioressence was bought for me one Christmas by a lover. We were having a secret affaire - we were both single but there were complications so we kept it to ourselves. Dioressence became a secret code between us. As friends we always kissed hello, and if I was wearing it he would smell it and know that we were on for later on in the evening!

We parted completely amicable and by mutual agreement, and much later on I met and married someone else. And I stopped wearing it because it seemed a bit weird to wear something bought for me by another man.

But I love it and miss it so maybe now, 20 years later, I can return to its joys and love it all over again...if I can find a vintage bottle on eBay!

3TresTrois · 15/09/2018 23:59

Hello, Perfumistas..

I’m slightly tipsy (breaking my sober September for one night only due to good fruend’s big birthday) and in bed drowned in Amarige. Not a bedtime scent, I know, but I’ve been craving big, nostalgic florals!

Flighty - I have a very old vintage Dioressence which I use sparingly and adore. But I actually love the modern one, which I know is perfumista anathaema Grin its a different beast, for sure ...but I find it beautiful. Can’t say the same for Diorella...

Flightywoman · 16/09/2018 09:56

Ah 3Tres it's not that I hate new Dioressence, it's just that it isn't Dioressence!

New Miss Dior, otoh, is SO wrong and bad. I've just bought a 10ml of vintage from ebay because I miss it so much...

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 16/09/2018 10:17

Oh, Flighty, what a lovely story! You must go and buy that bottle I linked to upthread if MrsL hasn't! It looks pretty decent to me at the price. Anais Anais is my (less sophisticated) lover's perfume. If I ever meet my first (and eternal) love again, I must be wearing it, because it would do his head in. Grin

New Dioressence has definitely not suffered the fate of Diorella, but I won't be buying any anytime soon.

Miss Dior Originale is still pretty good. Once you've convinced the sales assistant that no, you don't want the flowery PM shite with the velvet bows.(I spent ages at an airport saying "could you have a look under the display please" and describing the bottle to her, she remained convinced for ages I didn't know what I was on about!- Got one in the end, she had to go in the back for it) I have about 6 varying vintages of Miss Dior, plus a mahoosive bottle of Miss Dior originale, and it more than holds its own. I object very much to Dior calling their PMs Miss Dior (in the same way I object to "Chloe" - which is not, Eau de Gucci and my beloved Anais Anais) (I stockpile the "originales" of all three...

MrsLucas · 16/09/2018 10:17

Thank you Express - hoping to be able to report back shortly Smile.

Just enjoying a quiet 20 mins and thinking about a shortlist of things for the coming week. Just rummaging through my samples; I think I might have a woody few days, thinking:

Ormonde Jayne Woman (thank you lovely Perfumista, if you are still our there?).
Feminite du Bois, Shiseido.
Theorema, Fendi.
Elven Forest, 4160 (mod).
Yatagan, Caron.

What are your favourite woody picks?

Flightywoman · 16/09/2018 10:49

Oh I'm all about the woody chypres MrsL so I'll be hitting Givenchy III, the last drops of La Prairie Life Threads Platinum, Dioressence, Miss Dior, Ma Griffe...

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/09/2018 12:10

Oh, meant to say there was Yatagan a-plenty in TKM as well.

I have given up on Poirier d'un soir. Way too sweet for me. I should not have swapped out Serge. I need to start clearing out and ebaying, I think.

SOTD is MMM Lazy Sunday Morning because I am Captain Obvious.

JaponicaMarguerite · 16/09/2018 13:02

Does anyone have any recollections of Lancome Sikkim from the early seventies (middle photo)?

If have tried unsuccessfully to find something similar, the Milton Lloyd dupe Kashmir (photo #1) is nothing like, I suspect it's a copy of the later reissue. Likewise Miss Dior (photo #3), which is also touted as a smell-alike, and is not.

The original has top notes of aldehydes, bergamot, galbanum, gardenia and caraway; middle notes are carnation, jasmine, iris, narcissus and rose; base notes are amber, vetiver, oakmoss, leather, coconut and patchouli.

Can anyone suggest anything else I could try?
