Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

I think the Mastic has made my face go orange??? Like properly orange Shock

I also seem to have so many products that are kind of minty such as my burts lip balm, Liz Earle Cleanser, Omorovicza moor cream cleanser, very strange.

Thanks Mint I mainly go when it's a nice day, feel like a walk, need to get out the house esp when I'm working from home, and I can just turn up and see who wants to go out, it's nice I like it.

mintmagnummm · 07/06/2018 06:16

Tant I love minty products the smell is amazing I seem to be drawn to literally anything mint! However I think the minty products are too harsh for my skin and scalp so instead I just sniff them in the shops, I'll be dragged away in a white coat 😂.
Big respect to you for doing that, it's commendable Thanks

mintmagnummm · 07/06/2018 06:18

John Freida do a beach blonde shampoo and conditioner (not just for blondes so it's a silly name!) and the smell is delicious! I used them for about a month or so and was so excited thinking I'd found something finally and that was my fave smell too but then the scalp decided to throw a wobbly 😏

SophieLion · 07/06/2018 12:47

That is very lovely of you Tant Smile**

Pupsiecola · 07/06/2018 14:26

What they said ^ Tant.

Pupsiecola · 07/06/2018 18:19

Confession time. I collected my Boots parcel of the ice pack. I already have one 😬.

Tsmummy08 · 07/06/2018 18:58

Pupsie Your workouts sound hardcore! I was getting up at 5 or 6am in half-term to get to the gym and back before DH left for work at 8ish, it was tiring but good to get it out of the way. I'm not doing HIIT at the moment but I do wear Nike Metcons for lifting - that probably doesn't count, does it? Grin I've just started a new program, 3 leg days a week including some German volume training. Ouch!

Tsmummy08 · 07/06/2018 19:08

Tant that's lovely of you! :)

Enid I haven't been brave enough to use my Footner yet.. I keep meaning to do it then chickening out, and am never sat still long enough to do it... maybe I'll take the plunge tonight and we can be peely together Grin

EnidButton · 07/06/2018 19:13

Tant Dooo it! Just make sure you don't need to have your feet out in public for the next 2 weeks or so. I did it last night. Soaking them as we speak. I find it doesn't work as quickly or as well without the soaking each evening. Just 20 mins. I'm doing a face mask (two actually) at the same time.

EnidButton · 07/06/2018 19:13

Oops sorry meant Ts! Cake

EnidButton · 07/06/2018 19:15

Oh no Pups! Grin Hopefully you'll never need two. They'll accept it back.

Soooo, toothache; ice pack or heat pack? Using ice atm. And oragel and salt water and omg I need to make a dentist app tomorrow.

TantricTwist · 07/06/2018 19:29

Thanks there are plenty of other people who volunteer there who do arts and crafts or cooking or singing, even keep fit in your chair. I just do the taking out for long walks for those that love it and are immobile and at the very beginning of dementia.

pupsie and tsummy do you feel more energised after your morning workouts and feel like you get more done for the rest of the day?

I feel quite inspired now to get up extra early and jump on my cross trainer and see if I can get into a routine of it.

enid sounds like you need otc codeine and paracetamol for your toothache.

Re feet I use a pumice stone every time I shower which seems to keep my feet in order.

mintmagnummm · 07/06/2018 20:03

Enid I was told by emergency dentist to always use ice for toothache never heat...

zoClueless · 07/06/2018 20:04

Just catching up with the thread - loving all the ice cream chat Smile

TantricTwist · 07/06/2018 20:43

The Omorovicza moor cream cleanser leaves your face feeling gorgeously smooth and clean after using EH moringa balm. A lovely combination.

Pupsiecola · 07/06/2018 22:08

Enid for the body generally heat is used for the first couple of days, to increase blood flow and therefore nutrients etc to help heal the area. After that cold is used to draw blood away and therefore reduce inflammation. Having said that I think some people are drawn to one or the other. I would probably feel more inclined to cold with anything oral/head.

mummy I don't envy you the GVT; almost the opposite to MetCon. That's tough re 3 X leg days. I guess you shouldn't get DOMS too badly? If my DH misses legs for a week he gets DOMS very badly.

Tantric yes I feel pretty fab. I've been training regularly for 3 years but making my own stuff up/running/YouTube such as The Body Coach. I was feeling that I'd lost my mojo a little these last few months. I have also been looking to get to know some like minded people (I'm quite into it all. Not in an obsessive way but in a lifestyle sort of a way). Anyway I am loving this because Monday to Friday I will have done 5 really decent, carefully thought out workouts. Not had to think about it at all really. I went to bed too late last night at 11:15. I think it's going to make a huge difference to me ♥️

TantricTwist · 07/06/2018 23:15

pupsie and tsmummy I'm loving your exercise lingo. DOMS and German volume training.
Its really interesting to read your routines and making me realise no wonder I'm losing this weight so slowly, I'm barely making any effort at all Blush and not surprising I put it on so easily.

Ooo the Origins ginseng moisturiser is lovely from the M&S summer beauty box btw, have just applied it.

EnidButton · 08/06/2018 07:52

Just taken some thank you Tant and I've gone with ice rather than heat which is working nicely. Thank you for the advice everyone. Flowers

EnidButton · 08/06/2018 10:23

I can't find a dentist. 😩 Eveywhere is full even though I will throw £££ at them to fix it.

mintmagnummm · 08/06/2018 10:29

I need to sing the praises for avene cicalfate cream! Works for me much better than lrp cicaplast!

TantricTwist · 08/06/2018 11:10

mint thats good to know because cicaplast is doing nothing to get rid of this rash on my neck.
No reactions to the Origins ginseng gel moisturiser so I'll be using that most evenings, I was a bit concerned as it has shea butter and oils in it but nothing but lovely smooth skin this morning. I will try the Mastic again to see re wierd orangeness, could just be I caught the sun and my Ultrasun face 30 spf was just crap the other day.

mintmagnummm · 08/06/2018 11:24

Tant I've actually been using it on my neck too as I am allergic to antibiotics but have needed 2 lots recently and so cake up in my usual severe acne rash all over my neck! 2 evenings using this cream it is 90% gone!

botemp · 08/06/2018 11:52

I've just taken receipt of the GOW Vitamin C serum, got here a lot quicker than I expected so well done VH. Really impressed with the pump bottle it comes in at the price, feels substantial and not likely to break. Just tried it on the back of my hand, it's a slightly milky serum, disappears into the skin easily, no oiliness, stickiness, or anything. Looks ideal for layering. Will report back on it when it's been used for at least a week or two but so far so good.

Bo I was also impressed with the pump on the azelaic acid. I'm using mine again tonight

botemp · 08/06/2018 12:14

The Vit C looks to be a different one than the rest of the range, but good to know the others have quality pumps too.
