Here we go again... A merry whirl of things of things that smell delicious (and sometimes not).

First try of Ealing Green this morning. Cor!! I get it!! Big green whoosh settling into powdery sweets. Took me a while to place them but I think it's those citrus polos they used to make that it's remind me of. Hope it's half price scent of the week before summer's out...

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/06/2018 10:58

Ealing Green is fab - I might give that a run out in a bit.

Have started the day in Flora Psychedelia which was lovely to start with, but I've barely had it on for half-an-hour now and it's just a vaguely soapy whiff. I'm not having a lot of luck with my new 4160s at the moment.

Welcome RedPanda! This is indeed a lovely thread Smile. I don't actually know a lot about Chanel scents; I have a bit of Bel Respiro which is crisp and lovely but very fleeting so a full bottle definitely wouldn't be worth the money for me. And some vintage no. 22 sent to me by a lovely perfumista on this thread, which is a cracker, but again I don't think I'd get much wear out of a FB.

Generally I wouldn't think that they are a rip-off as such, just that they are often considered to be the default 'prestige' perfume house when in fact there are lots of other places doing stuff that is just as gorgeous. However, some of their Exclusifs (Coromandel, Cuir de Russie, 28 La Pausa, Bois des Iles being good examples) are truly lovely and probably well worth the cash.

A long-winded way of saying, you can't go too far wrong with Chanel and if you love it, who cares anyway!

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/06/2018 11:02

Hope all is ok blue. There are often threads on here I want to join but don't because I am worried about people joining the dots.

And yy to Handmaid's-Tale-induced paranoia. I can barely watch it tbh. Whenever I hear people saying 'it could never happen here' I always think, tell that to the women of Iran...

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/06/2018 11:04

(Btw I know Iran was far from perfect before the revolution, and I also know I'm dragging this thread off track and am going to stop now and get back to sorting my samples Grin)

Buntyforgirls · 02/06/2018 11:04

I love that one too cheap -one of my favs. Very different to the one I am about to rav about - very new to me and received as a sample- lolita l. I love it! Liquorice and violets and slightly gourmand, which I think is the vanilla in it? Golly i am in loveStar. It reminds me very much of korres black sugar lily and violet (something like that)

Coffeecoffeebuzzbuzzbuzz · 02/06/2018 11:24

SOTD Italian Sunmer Fig again- trying to induce good weather as it’s rainy and horrible. Tried a next one yesterday: coral blush. Has anyone tried it? It’s so familiar but I can’t place why and can’t find anything on Fragrantica. Any ideas?

BlueKittens · 02/06/2018 13:08

Sorry for dragging the thread down a darker path Blush this is my happy place Grin

SOTD is E Coudray Iris Rose... lovely musk

BlueKittens · 02/06/2018 13:11

Welcome Panda love Chanel Exclusifs my favourite is Bois de iles but the extrait version which teta kindly gifted me some. I’m currently saving for 15 ml which is over £100! Shock

Coffeecoffeebuzzbuzzbuzz · 02/06/2018 15:26

Welcome panda. I am about to do a ‘bad thing’. There are Chanel exclusifs here and I have birthday money burning a hole in my pocket. Coromandel shall be mine....

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/06/2018 15:47

I am really not getting on with Centrepiece at all. Anyone fancy 9mls?

MrsLucas · 02/06/2018 19:09

Happy to swap Fennel - have a LoF Fig Leaf 30ml, 10 ml of S&B Blood Oranges, 10ml Ecoudray Rose Tubereuse, or a vintage 15ml of Avon Occur! amongst other things...

MrsLucas · 02/06/2018 19:13

Just on the Lolita Lempikas, does anyone know which of the dark flankers is the nicest? There's Minuit Sonne, L'Eau de Minnuit and Minuit Noir.

BarbaraCartlandsFloofyCat · 02/06/2018 19:40

I have only tried the "original" LL (which I love though) MrsL so I'm no use sorry.

Agree with the love for Ealing Green, if it ever does come up as half price SOTW, please would someone flag it up here? I know you guys would anyway Grin

Panda welcome this is indeed a fabulous thread. I haven't tried many Exclusifs at all (which I keep meaning to rectify) and the only Chanels I like enough to spend money on are Allure and No. 5 EP so I'm not much use here either Grin but welcome! Has someone said put your credit card in the freezer yet? Oh and hello titsalina too, can't add any better advice than you've had but welcome too!

Calm, thank you I should have thought of Alice rather than my default obsession interest of Plantagenets Grin Yes to Phillippa Gregory, I do like her and also saw the adapated for TV thing, IIRC they did an Elizabeth Woodville Sr series and Elizabeth Woodville Jr series, if that makes sense - worth a watch for a bit of not too taxing escapism if any haven't seen it. I think we put history love in one of our scent diagrams so people probably have Wink

Hope there aren't too many work and moving related woes amongst us. I myself am in a foul mood slightly grumpy as school holidays nearly done and I haven't been able for much so have guilt, plus struggling a bit with restrictions and life changes due to recent illness. It could be a lot worse so I feel even more guilty being really quite ungrateful when I probably should be counting my blessings. I'm thinking a FB Prada Iris (or the Perfume Parlour version anyway Wink) might actually be required, for medicinal purposes, you understand? Grin My teeny sample is nearly done and I have loved it, it's one where you use the whole thing up immediately!

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/06/2018 22:41

SOTD is MMM Untitled.

Did anyone watch that Tonight programme a few weeks ago about data capture? It was mainly about Facebook, which I don’t use, but it was terrifying.i teach classes in digital marketing and showed it to one of them. Most of the students had no idea.

MrsLucas · 03/06/2018 10:08

Anyone tried M&S Sheer Radiance? Smells a bit like a poor woman's Rapelle-Toi - grapefruit, pepper and gardenia? This is much rougher around the edges and less rich and creamy. Can't decide if it is bracingly refreshing or a bit naff?

UnnecessaryFennel · 03/06/2018 12:03

Excellent stuff Mrs L, pm me your address. I'd be very happy with the Rose Tubereuse in return - I really want to find a tuberose I can wear and this sounds as if it's got lots of stuff I'd like in it on top of all the white flowers Grin

Rather cheeky question for you all - I don't suppose anyone has their Big Sniff sample of Pirates Grand Reserve still knocking about that they'd be willing to send me? I gave mine to ds, and his girlfriend really likes it on him, so of course now he's jonesing for more. At £115 per bottle I think it's a wee bit extravagant for a 15-year-old's birthday present Shock, but a couple of extra samples would probably do the trick!

Am off to see the Psychedelic Furs, Patti Smith and Nick Cave this afternoon/evening, so am in Debaser as it was the nearest I could get to a rock and roll scent! Will have to leave the Big Sniff II until tomorrow...

PestymcPestFace · 03/06/2018 15:08

Mrs L my fave LL is Fleur Defendue, so that's no use to you.

SotD is Map of the Heart, couldn't find remember what I was looking for but found this Confused , pure pepper today and not as I remembered. Maybe not one for hot weather.

Fennel I'll have a look if Pirates is in the same place as Map was.

Big hugs Floofy great to see you back.

Ollivander84 · 03/06/2018 15:35

SOTD - lush avobath dupe. ALL the citrus/lemongrass

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 03/06/2018 19:24

Evening! Fennel I'm pretty sure I still have the Atkinson's sample- only used it on hr TBS test day so there should be plenty left too.

SotD was Panorama for TBS II but I really spent the day smelling my hair- used a Lush Blush hot oil melt and it was like having Herba Fresca weaved in. Perhaps a bit much on some occasions but on a hot clear day like today it was fabulous!

RedPandaFluff · 03/06/2018 19:41

My god. You all really know your stuff. I'm massively intimidated Grin

CountFosco · 03/06/2018 20:10

RedPanda there's a few of us who haven't been here long but a few sample packs boosts your knowledge quickly! There are some real experts but they are very friendly and there's no snobbery - a few weeks ago we were all visiting our local poundland to get Pharrel Williams Girl and Tatler did very well last month as we all rushed to buy it to get a free sample.

mrsreynolds · 04/06/2018 07:10

Morning!

Busy busy...

I'm doing some voluntary work today and it involves (horror!) Talking to the general public 😣😮

Didn't sleep well last night- ds2 up twice and it was hot :(

So I think I'll wear coromandel again. It's very pleasant and not too strong.

I'm trying to decide whether to save up for mmm by the fireside. It's so beautiful 😍

MG plum went to mum. Too fruity for me.

Have a Good day all!

OCSock · 04/06/2018 10:06

How were Psychedelic Furs and Patti Smith, Fennel? I confess a rush of unscent-related Envy at that thought. Especially as I heard Pretty in Pink on the radio (while ironing) one day last week.

SoTD is Rose Tuberose. I'm not fond of the opening blast of tuberose (but it's okay in the open air for walking SockDog) after which it's a pretty floral.

UnnecessaryFennel · 04/06/2018 12:28

Sock, we missed the Furs in the end, spent too much time in the pub beforehand Blush. But Patti Smith was absolutely mind-blowing, just fabulous. She is a true force of nature and I never get tired of seeing her play.

Mrsr, hope you're having a good day despite having to speak to the public!

RedPanda - I think we would all just consider ourselves very enthusiastic amateurs, please don't be intimidated. I didn't know the first thing about perfume until I joined these threads, so just jump in! We love enabling newbies Wink

CountFosco · 04/06/2018 13:19

DH has decided we need to take the kids to a festival (last time he was at a festival was a folk festival in Cambridge circa 1994 Hmm) Thinking of going to Deershed. Anyone got any ideas for a perfume to wear? Apart from Debaser obviously Grin. Considering buying myself some Herba Fresca and using it to keep fresh instead of washing or brushing teeth. But also think I need some patchouli!

heads off to read festival packing lists in the camping section
