SotD is Black Fleece.

OCSock · 30/05/2018 09:24

Great news, Judy and MrJ. Adding my congratulations and a tribute to your grace under pressure over the months! Unclench your jaw and ponder the new bottle of perfume; what are your frontrunners?

Several days of high humidity have turned into a gentle downpour here, so SoTD will probably be something watery but comforting. Am thinking of broaching my new Vetiver Tonka decant, courtesy of Gerald in Germany.

OCSock · 30/05/2018 09:37

Oh, and yesterday's SoTD was Feu Follet, with a huge [bouquet] to Fennel.

LibertyBlue · 30/05/2018 10:11

SOTD is Gigi by ecrivans jardins (probably got that perfume house name v wrong Blush)

You deserve a very special Perfume Judy!

teta · 30/05/2018 12:09

Judy I’m so pleased for you and your dh. You must be absolutely thrilled and so relieved 🍸💐.
Have a wonderful time planning your next special perfume with a totally guilt-free conscious 😁.

teta · 30/05/2018 12:13

Conscience!

BarbaraCartlandsFloofyCat · 30/05/2018 12:26

Judy I'm so pleased for both of you, I was going to go back and re-read as I had a vague memory of you mentioning an interview. Less teeth clenching for you hopefully, and worry free, quick scan results, fingers crossed Thanks And definitely a new celebratory perfume!!

Calm tarmacadam?! I'm there! Gosh I love the smell of hot tarmac and have to be dragged away from roadworks. I remember wanting to eat some when I was pregnant Hmm

Is the White Queen perfume anything to do with Elizabeth Woodville, or is is completely unrelated? It's too dangerous for me to look at their website at the moment. No self control Blush plus I forget what I've bought that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it Wink

Count moving is a nightmare. I feel for you. Having to deal with BT is also always a nightmare Top of Lemon bottle is lovely and heavy if you need to throw anything Grin

SOTD is Prada Iris. I love this. In fact I need a shower but don't want to "waste" my sample so will wait til it fades. I need a life!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 30/05/2018 17:12

Hi, just popping in to ask for recommendations, I'm looking for a new daily scent I adored Beyond Paradise by Estée Lauder many moons ago so something similar would be good. I would also like a perfume with strong Jasmine notes for evening. I have a few Jo Malone scents but they don't seem to last on me at all.

UnnecessaryFennel · 30/05/2018 18:04

Has everyone seen that Sarah Mac is advertising for an assistant at 4160 Towers? Talk about a dream job...

Calmwhoknows · 30/05/2018 18:43

Hello Titsalina! Yes, Beyond Paradise was gorgeous, years ago, but sadly has been reformulated and is not quite as good as it was 😨. If you go to Fragrantica you will see suggestions for other perfumes to try, on the left hand side.

As for jasmine perfumes, you could try searching for jasmine in the “notes” section of Fragrantica. It will give you perfumes that contain jasmine. You could also try buying some testers from 4160Tuesdays, as they have a number of rich perfumes containing jasmine, eg Sleep Knot, Babylon Sunset, Pillow Talk, Midnight in the Palace Garden, and others which might suit, as well, eg Shazam! And Rome 1963. If you contact them they will be able to suggest a suitable selection. Bloom Perfumery also offer a samples service.

MrsLucas · 30/05/2018 19:08

Titsalina - you can't beat Lush's Lust for a nuclear jasmine. Just like a wall of sun-warmed jasmine on a heady high summer night in Greece.

MrsLucas · 30/05/2018 19:09

Tell us about Gigi Blue? I like George by J d'E very much. One of my best 2017 discoveries.

Calmwhoknows · 30/05/2018 19:16

Floofy, the name White Queen comes from Alice in Wonderland, rather than Elizabeth Woodville, so unrelated. (Enjoyed the Philippa Gregory book, though. Have you read it?)

Happy to send you a sample of Freeway, if you like?

UnnecessaryFennel · 30/05/2018 20:39

White Queen has turned out fabulously incensey on me this afternoon/evening. It effectively disappeared between hours 2-8 but then the 'tiny drop' of frankincense came back like a whopper, and how delicious is it? Utterly gorgeous and means that this is a scent well worth re-investigating as far as I'm concerned.

MrsLucas · 30/05/2018 21:00

That's interesting Fennel - you'll have to try it again and see if it still disappears. Very much present during hours 2-8 on me Smile. Have sort of solved the riddle of the solid white heart - think its creamy-soapy?

Have had a quick rummage in my vintage drawer, and have given Audace and PP (EdT) an evening run out. Hadn't realised Audace dates back to 1936; it smells a lot like a late 60s/70s French mossy green chypre. Half expected to see a leather or birch note, as it's quite a dark green; smokey and bitter. But iris and carnation give it a powdery spicy heart. Fragrantica lists base notes of oak moss, pine, juniper, galbanum, patchouli and amber. I need to try it alongside Magie Noire and Chantilly which it reminds me of bit.

PP smells relatively airy and floral/musky in direct comparison to Audace. The aldehydes, mimosa, coriander and civet sing out.

LibertyBlue · 30/05/2018 21:06

Welcome titsalina there are so many great white florals out there to discover. You might like 24 Faubourg, pure poison Dior, Tommy Girl, nuxe (like the oil), beyond love by Kilian, Plum Mary Greenwell

UnnecessaryFennel · 30/05/2018 21:08

It's really interesting, MrsL - it's almost Avignon levels of incense now, which is so unexpected (and wonderful!) I'll wear it again tomorrow and see what happens. I'm not in the office so can probably get away with a good overspray Grin

So odd the way some skins ramp up certain notes - although am never going to complain about incense overdose!

LibertyBlue · 30/05/2018 21:09

^ Oh and j’adore is a classic white floral, they have released a flanker called j’adore In Joy, it’s got all the white florals with added peach and salt

LibertyBlue · 30/05/2018 21:16

MrsLucas Gigi was quite loud and blousy for the office today Grin it’s full on Tuberose (which you know I love, but is a bit marmite) it’s a little fruity (I’m not sure what, just a bit sweet and juicy- could be Neroli flowers even). This could be one for titsalina to try actually- it’s all warm, white flowers and juicy exotic fruit.

Judydreamsofhorses · 30/05/2018 22:14

Thank you all so much for the good wishes. It still needs references and medical, so could all go tits up yet, but hopefully we will be grand. We’ve had conversations about doing a massive food shop with loads of treaty foods, plus me switching to a private dentist (the guy who did my recent root canals) more than holidays, perfumes etc - funny how priorities shift!

SOTD Diptyque Philosykos for a very, very muggy day. We don’t tend to get that sort of weather here much, and it always makes me wonder how people cope with it on a regular basis. I like hot heat, but damp heat is disgusting.

BlueKittens · 31/05/2018 08:17

For the muggy weather, I shall be wearing the refreshing Miller Harris Lumiere Doree today

Btw - It’s me blue Wink

UnnecessaryFennel · 31/05/2018 08:56

White Queen again for me today.

Slept appallingly after a really stressful day at work yesterday. I almost cried in a meeting; I'm not a crier, but it was that or storm out in a fury. In the end I just sat and seethed very conspicuously, probably not very professional but neither were my colleagues Angry, so I'm going to hide in the library with a pile of marking today and ignore everyone.

I have that hollowed-out, headachey, wibbly feeling, so depending on how many essays I get through I might even swing by Bloom on my way home for a bit of 'self care' Grin.

BlueKittens · 31/05/2018 09:47

Flowers for Fennel

Just popping onto say Bloom and Wild Flowers giving away a free fleur de Figuer set with every bouquet- fragrance was created by Francis Kurkjian for Roger and Gallett - it’s gorgeous. Code is RELAXING

MrsGruber · 31/05/2018 13:44

That doesn't sound great Fennel. Hope it doesn't happen very often.
SotD is Babylon Sunset. Innocently decadent and ripe with possibility. The most optimistic perfume I know. I need to sniff it alongside MitPG. It's older and more worldly sibling?
