Here we go again... A merry whirl of things of things that smell delicious (and sometimes not).

mrsreynolds it reminds me of those posh almost edible lemon soaps as a kid, don’t know name of brand, but they’re quite trad

MrsLucas · 10/05/2018 19:13

MrsR - seize that vintage Miss Dior with both hands! It's marvelous. How vintage is it?

UnnecessaryFennel · 10/05/2018 19:38

Bronnley soaps, liberty? Lemon-shaped, bright yellow and very pungent.

I'm going to have to wear MG Lemon tomorrow, just to try and like it a bit more after all the love on here.

Coffeecoffeebuzzbuzzbuzz · 10/05/2018 19:47

Is it terrible to admit I’ve never tried Miss Dior (vintage or otherwise!)? In fact Dior is a house which has totally passed me by and I’ll have to get sniffing the next time I’m near a counter.

mrsreynolds · 10/05/2018 19:56

It's 1960s I think....

I loved bronnley stuff as a kid :)

mrsreynolds · 10/05/2018 20:03

I have a question re the MG bottles...are the lids meant to be mini cannonballs!!??

LibertyBlue · 10/05/2018 20:43

Yes Fennel it’s Bronnley soaps I’m thinking of. MG Lemon reminds me of those- especially on the drydown.

MrsReynolds the MG tops are deadly

mrsreynolds · 10/05/2018 20:52

I had the fern bronnley body lotion and soap as a child. I thought I was very grown up

MrsLucas · 10/05/2018 23:38

Are they made of lead d'you think?

Coffee - that was me as well. Then a bargain in a pretty bottle cropped up on eBay so I succumbed, and have been completely seduced by the stuff, although it is definitely of a certain era, especially the massive soapy green opening. I know the rationale for completely reinventing Miss Dior at intervals is to make sure she speaks to the tastes of young women of the day, but I'd prefer a bit more continuity around the bottle's contents.

mrsreynolds · 11/05/2018 06:10

Sotd MG lemon

UnnecessaryFennel · 11/05/2018 07:14

SOTD MG Lemon also. I'm still not sure about this but will see how it goes for the rest of the day. I know it's unimaginative to say that lemon/citrus scents smell like floor cleaner etc, but I'm afraid that's the vibe I get from this one so far.

mrsreynolds · 11/05/2018 07:23

It is quite sharp to being with but it cries down beautifully...balsamic spicy loveliness :)

mrsreynolds · 11/05/2018 07:58

Dries down

teta · 11/05/2018 08:35

No Malone Cardamom & Mimosa today. It’s warm, honeyed and hay-like and I smell the same as the Rapeseed fields around here.

OCSock · 11/05/2018 08:57

MrsR, decant done, will drop it in the post in a little while! SoTD is Citizen Queen, but smelling the smoke, I am wondering if it should have been Feu Follet. Regardless, I shall reek of kipper later on!

positivepineapple · 11/05/2018 09:28

Teta I like that one too, it's a real sunny scent. I also have the candle, which doesn't smell much like the cologne at all 🤨

Does home scenting ever get discussed here? I'm a bit obsessed with that too. I've just bought the Yankee candle electric plug ins to try. I'm not a huge fan of the candles. The design of them is pretty crap, aesthetically and practically. So far I'm impressed with the plug in, I have the jasmine version - it's strong and not too chemical.

SOTD is Elie Saab l'eau couture

mrsreynolds · 11/05/2018 09:34

Thanks sock
(Excited)

Motoko · 11/05/2018 10:07

Yankee Candles have a good throw, but I'm not keen on the "homespun" look of the jars, so I usually just buy the votives.

mrsreynolds · 11/05/2018 10:17

I use wax melts in a burner daily. Today is jasmine. Bit strong tbh.

In the winter I use woodwick candles as they make a lovely crackling sound like a real fire :)

MrsGruber · 11/05/2018 10:31

Look out for L'Artisan's home range in TKMaxx. Anyone tried the 4160Tuesdays home stuff?

teta · 11/05/2018 10:41

Pineapple I love home scents too. As much to disguise the smell of spaniel and kids.
This Works candles are really natural smelling. I also love their Sleep Spray for pillows, that really does work. I find Yankee candles very synthetic apart from the White Cotton one which just smells clean.
I also adore the smell of Ecover liquid and fabric conditioner. Especially in winter when everything smells so fusty.

LibertyBlue · 11/05/2018 14:02

SOTD is 4160 Mrs Gloss made me do it

It’s very fruity and sweet- a true jammy rose. Nice and well lasting with decent sillage

I’m into home fragrances too. I have Agonist and Miller Harris candles right now- cheapies from TK Maxx

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 11/05/2018 15:08

was wearing Maxed Out but it gave me a massive headache Sad it did the last time i wore it as well so considering that i might have to get rid of it Sad

OCSock · 11/05/2018 15:17

Years ago I bought a Berger lamp, which wafts fragrance very lightly around. However, the shop that sold the oils has closed and it doesn't last very long once it's gone into the lamp. Great pity because some of the aromas were lovely, and not at all cloying. There was even one that deterred mozzies, which didn't smell of citronella but of clean seaside air. This is the official site.

positivepineapple · 11/05/2018 15:17

I love TK maxx for candles, I have a Homesense nearby. It's dangerous!

I find Next are good quality as well.

MrsR what wax burner do you use? Do they use much energy?

Teta I have heard Ecover mentioned a few times now, how is it for sensitive skin? We have only ever used Bold, DH has a weird skin sensitivity thing, the most random things bring him out in blistery hives.

Motoko how long burn do you get from the Yankee votives? I can cope if it's in a nice holder. I hate the garish colours of the jars.

Any recommendations for strong smelling church candles?

L'artisan, Miller Harris, This Work and Woodwick candles all added to my mental shopping list......
