I really don’t “get” Meghan Markle’s style choices

So she wore this yesterday.
I like the jacket, bag & shoes. Dress, not keen, to me, it looks like something from H&M. Then the cross body bag & jacket on shoulders. To me, she looks untidy.
Maybe I should accept that I am officially middle aged. But this is not how I expect someone soon to be in the Royal Family to dress.
To be fair to her, she has definitely smartened up Harry. So I guess she knows what she is doing.... I just can’t see it

I like her style, modern and simple. Kate is so frumpy.

I think of Kate as LK Bennett or Hobbs and Meghan more like Reiss.

RoseWhiteTips · 24/04/2018 21:32

Maybe MM was hoping people would flock to see her instead of focussing on Kate and the new prince? Haha

RoseWhiteTips · 24/04/2018 21:33

Kate is a real duchess and a future queen. She gets everything just right.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/04/2018 21:43

Or maybe she just, y'know, picked out a dress she wanted to wear with no ulterior motive. 🙄

Calling Kate frumpy is like calling the Queen frumpy.
They dress for their role.
Off duty, the Queen wears tweed and Kate wears Breton tshirts

Kate is a real duchess

Well, technically she is a duchess by marriage. Which is exactly what Meghan will be, assuming the queen makes Harry a duke.

RoseWhiteTips · 24/04/2018 22:41

Yes, obviously by marriage.🙄

RoseWhiteTips · 24/04/2018 22:41

Is MM going to be Queen one day, then? Kate bests her. Easily.

TERFousBreakdown · 24/04/2018 22:52

Ummm ... I hate to break this to you, but: happening to be married to some bloke who happened to exit just the right womb at some point before any siblings did by pure accident of birth is not, in fact, 'besting' anyone but a rather neat little summary with everything that's wrong with a hereditary system in the first place.

This is not about KM, MM or any other particular person. My interest in who bests whom among those two is roughly equivalent to the same question applied to Lucy from HR and Jules from Accounts instead.

The notion that someone 'going to be queen one day' is somehow an argument in their favour is rather puzzling, though.

Unless you're referring to season 1 Sansa Stark, whom I've actually come to like a lot as a character, but who I suspect has a much better chance of ending up prematurely dead than on the throne at this point.

RoseWhiteTips · 24/04/2018 23:03

Wowzers.

RoseWhiteTips · 24/04/2018 23:03

Is there an applause emoticon?

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/04/2018 12:51

I wasn't keen on the coat and hat Meghan wore to today's dawn service but I can't fault the black suit and hat she's worn to Westminster Abbey just now. I'd say it's up there with the McQueen trouser suit and Stella McCartney caped dress as one of her best looks so far.

octonaught · 25/04/2018 13:05

Ooh the black suit and hat is stunning. It looks a bit like Emilia Wickstead.
It’s really neatly tailored to her frame.

This morning’s coat was too fussy; wide lapels, double breasted, too many pocket flaps and the colour was so uninspiring. I did however like the hat. here

( She also completely overdid the blusher).

To be fair, I'm not sure I would've been thinking straight if I had to go to a 2am service!

Thebirthdayparty · 25/04/2018 13:28

I think she looks lovely. I hope she doesn’t succumb to any pressure to conform to the typical frumpy royal dress sense. She is the only one with any sense of style. What she must make of them is anyone’s guess!

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/04/2018 14:49

@octonaught You're right, the black suit was Emilia Wickstead. Probably a diplomatic choice as I think she's from New Zealand.

PineappleFwitters · 25/04/2018 14:51

What I'd love to see is Meghan come out one day with her hair in its natural state!

FrownsAndDimples · 25/04/2018 15:04

Why? Is Kate's hair in its natural state? The photos from the India trip showed how wavy and frizzy it can go in the right climates much like a lot of us. Hers is blow dried and smoothed down.

PineappleFwitters · 25/04/2018 15:28

It's not quite the same when you consider the history behind black women's hair.

FrownsAndDimples · 25/04/2018 16:49

Yes that's what I was getting at. I wondered why you'd be extra keen on seeing her hair in its natural state. I see now it is just because of her heritage

SadWinky · 25/04/2018 16:53

Doesn't mean she's obliged to be an ambassador or anything. Plus she is mixed - she might not have the glorious Afro you are anticipating

PineappleFwitters · 25/04/2018 17:16

She doesn't have an afro but her hair was definitely curly.

eloisesparkle · 25/04/2018 19:02

Why does Meghan whose real name is Rachel use Meghan instead ?

SansaryaAgain · 25/04/2018 19:09

Lots of people don't use their first names - my father and my brothers all go by their middle names.

SenecaFalls · 25/04/2018 19:14

Meghan is her real name. Rachel Meghan

My son goes by his middle name as does DH.
