I really don’t “get” Meghan Markle’s style choices

So she wore this yesterday.
I like the jacket, bag & shoes. Dress, not keen, to me, it looks like something from H&M. Then the cross body bag & jacket on shoulders. To me, she looks untidy.
Maybe I should accept that I am officially middle aged. But this is not how I expect someone soon to be in the Royal Family to dress.
To be fair to her, she has definitely smartened up Harry. So I guess she knows what she is doing.... I just can’t see it

Generally I like the way she dresses and think she usually looks lovely
but I thought that the dress she wore yesterday for the Stephen Lawrence memorial was a tad inappropriate ( but gorgeous)
But maybe I’m a bit old fashioned

thesaurusgirl · 24/04/2018 10:05

Agreed that the dress Meghan wore to the Stephen Lawrence memorial was fabulous but inappropriate. We harridans will learn her.

Prince Harry still wearing his white shirts, just accentuating the ruddiness of his complexion. It makes him look like a toffee apple. Ghastly.

The tightness of Prince William's trousers! Embarrassing. Can see which way he dresses FFS.

thesaurusgirl · 24/04/2018 10:06

Really didn't like the weird Amish collar on Kate's dress yesterday or her old lady shoes, but red is definitely her colour. She's tough as old boots that one, which she'll need to be.

heateallthebuns · 24/04/2018 11:19

What's inappropriate about the dress she wore to Stephen Lawrence thing? It's black, so ok? Is it because of no sleeves?

heateallthebuns · 24/04/2018 11:19

Late looked like little orphan Annie in the red dress!!!

RoseWhiteTips · 24/04/2018 12:02

Kate’s “old lady shoes”? You are being ridiculous.

Hoppinggreen · 24/04/2018 12:12

heat I thought it was a bit low cut for church and the sleeveless thing as well
She did look gorgeous though

goose1964 · 24/04/2018 12:21

I think she may have been told to cover up as the royals are a bit prudish about showing flesh

legolammb · 24/04/2018 13:06

I'm a huge Meghan fan but did clutch my pearls a bit at sleeveless in church for a memorial service - she really needed a jacket IMO. She needs a better assistant to give her more guidance

DontCallMeCharlotte · 24/04/2018 13:12

I like that she's not falling into line (yet) regarding Royal Style and has no regard for the rules (bare legs and arms! shock horror!). She'll have to toe the line soon enough...

octonaught · 24/04/2018 13:29

Meghan may be breaking royal protocols, but she appears to be taking heed of the Vipers.
I think she needs to invest in a few little cashmere cardigans. This is London not LA.
She also needs to find a good seamstress to adjust her clothes

The dress was inappropriate yesterday. Did she honestly look in the mirror and think, yes, this looks great for a memorial service!? And the swept up hair with the scraggly bits round her face looks so lazy. These are really important official engagements ffs

octonaught · 24/04/2018 13:34

This would have looked nice over the memorial dress.
Anyway there is an m&s in high street ken. Even Princess Diana shopped there

In many churches - particularly in Europe - you are expected to cover up arms etc if you are visiting, say, to look at the art.

Does MM know nothing?

SamanthaBrique · 24/04/2018 15:05

Oh give over, there were other women at the service with bare arms too.

Hoppinggreen · 24/04/2018 15:11

In which case they were inappropriately dressed as well

cherrytrees123 · 24/04/2018 15:27

I thought the dress was too big for her, it was inappropriate to have bare arms and legs and her hair looked a mess. It would have been fine for a casual day out, but not a memorial service in a Church!

SamanthaBrique · 24/04/2018 15:51

In which case they were inappropriately dressed as well

Given that they were sitting near the actual alter I'm guessing the church didn't mind...

bakingdemon · 24/04/2018 16:28

I wish she'd step out of her monochrome werdrobe and start wearing some bright colours. The Queen always does because she knows she has to be seen, and the Duchess of Cambridge does the same.

TERFousBreakdown · 24/04/2018 17:24

The Queen always does because she knows she has to be seen, and the Duchess of Cambridge does the same.

... and both* of them look as though they'd stepped straight out of a 1947 editorial on 'sensible' styles.

Which is okay with me, seeing as I'm a republican and absolutely fine with the pointless anachronism style. I happen to think it's rather fitting. Stylish, though, it really isn't!

*I'm exempting some of Kate's evening wear, which is actually rather nice. I did, ironically, like her wedding dress although it was an unmistakeable nod to Grace Kelly's literally 1950s one. But someone rescue that poor woman from the solid colour, knee length, poorly fitted coat dresses, please! I may be a republican but I am capable of empathy!

pallisers · 24/04/2018 17:31

Seriously!

SwedishEdith · 24/04/2018 18:17

Does MM know nothing?

Well, since 'Markle attended Immaculate Heart High School, an all-girl Catholic private school in Los Angeles' I'm sure she does.

JessicaJonesJacket · 24/04/2018 19:19

I think Meghan's accessories and fit let her outfits down sometimes. She could choose some bolder handbags, necklaces, earrings, shoes, etc if she feels her dresses need to conform to a 'sensible' code.
Her hair makes me feel old because I want it to be more styled and tidy. She's made me realise that I've turned into my mother Grin

HermioneWeasley · 24/04/2018 19:39

I like her style, modern and simple. Kate is so frumpy.

SenecaFalls · 24/04/2018 19:50

That dress would have been completely appropriate at a funeral or memorial service in the US. (Check out some of the things that women who spoke at Barbara Bush's funeral wore). We are not so afraid of women's flesh in church. Smile
