I really don’t “get” Meghan Markle’s style choices

So she wore this yesterday.
I like the jacket, bag & shoes. Dress, not keen, to me, it looks like something from H&M. Then the cross body bag & jacket on shoulders. To me, she looks untidy.
Maybe I should accept that I am officially middle aged. But this is not how I expect someone soon to be in the Royal Family to dress.
To be fair to her, she has definitely smartened up Harry. So I guess she knows what she is doing.... I just can’t see it

I'm not a fan of the Royal family at all.
I love the dress. Not keen on the jacket, bag and shoes.
She looks smart and tidy and happy. That's all that matter.
H&M/Debenhams/Peacocks,does it matter where clothes come from?

QueenOfMyWorld · 19/04/2018 07:17

She might not "get" your style choices either

VladPutin · 19/04/2018 07:32

BOTH of them need to stop wearing hats ffs

dangerrabbit · 19/04/2018 07:35

I think she looks great!

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 19/04/2018 07:37

Jeepers this thread is vicious for so early in the day.

Woman wears clothes shocker.

rubybleu · 19/04/2018 07:43

I’m mostly intrigued as to where she bought an Oroton bag in the U.K.

It’s Australian handbag brand, similar to Coach, not considered to be particularly fashionable.

Pasdeprobleme · 19/04/2018 07:45

I think people should be able to comment on someone’s style on the style and beauty board. Not over keen on the dress myself but better than the wrap coats.

ShowOfHands · 19/04/2018 07:45

Distracting? Untidy?

They're just clothes. Keep your erogenous zones covered, protect from the elements. Job done.

Blimey. If a woman in a dress and jacket is distracting, perhaps consider whether you should be allowed to cross roads unsupervised.

AltheaorDonna · 19/04/2018 07:57

rubybleu you can buy Oroton bags online. I think I read they are in receivership so they have some bargains at the minute.

RedDwarves · 19/04/2018 08:00

Isn’t it more likely that the company gave her the bag as a way of boosting their public image since they’re struggling at the moment? It’s clever marketing, if so.

VickieCherry · 19/04/2018 08:04

Lovely dress, she looks great. It was warm in the sun but breezy yesterday, so you'd want a jacket standing around outside. And I love a shoulder bag, so convenient.

She looks like a normal, attractive young woman wearing nice clothes. I'm not sure how that is distracting?

suchatiredbunny · 19/04/2018 08:17

I think she looks lovely most of the time, I really like the fact she wore trousers to some winter engagements as we don't usually see the royal ladies in them (for official stuff). Personally, I think the handbags don't always work, although the bags are fab, they just seem to get in the way a bit. But she knows what suits her and she dresses confidently and appropriately for the job in hand. I'm looking forward to seeing her wedding dress!

Tanfastic · 19/04/2018 08:21

I really like her style, I think she looks lovely most of the time. She isn't at the minute putting herself into the royal fashion box where they all like rather cloney. I expect that will come though.

mimibunz · 19/04/2018 08:22

Her style is very American and I love it. It’s classic and sophisticated.

Inthedeepdarkwinter · 19/04/2018 08:37

I think she looks great! I am not keen on the matching jacket, skirt, strange dress combo of Kate as it looks like what the middle-aged ladies where at my work, although she is thinner. I like that look, just not on someone in their thirties.

I don't know who is slagging off her dress sense, I'd love to look like her!

lynmilne65 · 19/04/2018 08:57

And we care what you think because??

lynmilne65 · 19/04/2018 08:58

What is a cunting sleeve ?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 19/04/2018 09:07

'Cunting sleeve' Grin

I still think she's he spit of Pippa Middleton.....

UpperWallop · 19/04/2018 09:13

Well that's you told OP!

CaptainCardamom · 19/04/2018 09:25

It is a very American style - which is quite unfamiliar to Brits sometimes.

I don't think it's OK to tear women in the pubic eye down for the sake of it - but I do think it's OK to chat about people's clothes. It's interesting to me and I don't limit it to women. And nor do the media - many column inches have been written about Jeremy Corbyn's style for example.

Neither Kate's or Meghan's style does much for me and I'd love it if a royal would really mix it up with more interesting and statement choices (though Kate's wedding dress was fab). Diana was great for this and the Queen, in her own way, has very bold and witty style. But I still always like to see what they're up to.

Poppyfields21 · 19/04/2018 09:30

I agree her style is strange. I actually don’t think she’s particularly modern or stylish, she looks very conservative high street rather than particularly trendy. Some of the stuff she wears is too frumpy rather than elegant.

Poppyfields21 · 19/04/2018 09:32

I meant to add, I think the most stylish royal in Europe is Queen Letizia of Spain. She looks classic but trendy

MintyChops · 19/04/2018 09:35

If you can’t have a thread about someone’s style in the “Style and Beauty” section where can you?

I think she is lovely but I didn’t like the dress yesterday, it was a bit shapeless.

Bluntness100 · 19/04/2018 09:38

What is it with these sudden threads about Meghan Markle. I guess just a weird co incidence that they come straight after mumsnet was accused of being racist because there were some negative comments about her.

She looks lovely in that photo and outfit op, and I'm sure you know it

Put a pic of you up and let's have a judge of you in your clothes. I'm fairly sure she doesn't give a shit of your "expectations of How the rolyal family should dress".

On a personal level I find it very sad you're so over invested you have "personal expectations" of such a thing, and like to publicly criticise other women for how they dress. Says a lot about you that I'm sure you'd rather we didn't know. Because I can assure you. None of it is good.

MizCracker · 19/04/2018 09:41

I think she looks great (although I'm not keen on jackets worn on shoulders) and it's really nice to see some personality shine through, unlike Kate's outfits which just say "identikit Royal" to me.
