Princessing 2018

YolandasFridge · 10/01/2018 13:02

Have just been working out how long it will take me to lose my excess weight. Horrifyingly my app reckons the start of May if I lose 1.5lb a week. ( 2 stone-ish Blush)

It got me thinking about the last Project Princess thread which was great..and of course there's Harry and Meghan's wedding in May that I/we could use as a target. Just for a bit of fun...anyone?

Would be great to get the previous experts on board if they are around ?

My sensationail starter kit arrived. Any tips? Or just jump right in?

YolandasFridge · 12/01/2018 14:53

When thanks for the tip will proceed with caution. Doesn't ROC do a retinol that gets good reviews on here? The Ordinary one doesn't seem to be doing much. I think I need something with oomph!

Rapunzel I've got that too and it's good but as I heard I'm sure I saw chat about needing a base coat , which strangely they didn't supply in my kit

Uterus I tried Rapidlash but was probably a bit impatient and gave up after a couple of weeks, I think it's quite a long process !

Can I join too please??
Another person celebrating the big 40 later this year, and want to look the best version of myself for it!
I do try to keep to a basic grooming routine as it is (haircut/colour every 8 weeks, gym 3 times a week, at home manicure every week/pedicure every 3 weeks, gradual tan when I can be bothered, shave legs every 2nd day) but I need to improve the following:
Eyebrow threading every 3 weeks
Drink more water
Get more sleep
Start using retinol- have ordered one fro. The Ordinary, will report back when it arrives
Lose 10lbs - stop snacking, cut out biscuits and all added sugar.
Need this thread to keep me motivated!

Gilbert82 · 12/01/2018 19:18

I’m in!
I used to love beauty and style/fashion but have lost my way a bit since having a baby last year! I still have around 8lbs of baby weight to shift so have been looking into the 5:2 diet or slimming world (might try 5:2 as it’s free!). Also need to drink more water!
I had a huge clear out of my wardrobe and shoes this week to get rid of everything that made me feel frumpy (most things!).
I’m going to make an effort to exfoliate and moisturise my body at least 4 times a week including my feet (no point saying I’ll do it every day as it won’t happen!) and do a weekly face mask
Also going to make an effort to start exercising 3 times a week, either a walk or dvd/YouTube video (have found some postnatal exercise videos so just need to give them a go when baby is napping/happy to lie nicely and watch mummy jump around the living room!)
Would love to start painting my nails again but don’t seem to get chance/time to let them dry....maybe in another month or so (baby is only 4 months old)
Sure there’s lots more I could/should be doing but this is a start!

Hi, sounds like an exciting thread! Which gradual tanner do you recommend? Have used dove in the past, but fancy a change :)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/01/2018 22:54

Ooh I have some James Read H2O mistspray tan (that I haven't used yet ) you've reminded me. Thanks Grin

Uterus Revitalash (QVC had it last week, (Eyelash and Eyebrow duo) I'm a-waiting my delivery to improve my laughable eyebrows)

YolandasFridge · 13/01/2018 00:11

Tulipz think I've tried every gradual tanner on the market and my favourite is the Garnier Summer Body . The huge 400ml is half price in Tesco at the moment

So far I only have fine lines going from the corners of my nose to the corners of my mouth, and a couple of forehead ones.

Can you just apply Retinol to those particular areas, as I understand it's pretty strong stuff?

Troika · 13/01/2018 15:36

Can I join please?

My list:
Drink more water
Take hair, skin, nail supplements
Keep on top of eyebrows
Keep on top of hair dye
Proper skin care routine day and night
Cull wardrobe
Try to only wear clothes I feel good in
Tone up (no weight to lose but decidedly flabby around the middle)
Generally try to look less of a bag lady

Troika · 13/01/2018 15:38

Not found a fake tan that
a) doesn’t make me feel sick with the smell
b) doesn’t look orange on my extremely pale skin

Can anyone recommend?

Rockchick1984 · 13/01/2018 15:42

Oooh can I join please? Weight loss is desperately needed, but I tend to tell myself that I will do all these things once I’m slimmer whereas I reckon it would make me feel so much better about myself if I do them now.

Troika I’m also scarily pale and hate the smell of fake tan, so generally I just use Sally Hansen Perfect Legs in light tan if I’m going out somewhere, and don’t worry about how white I look.

lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 15:44

I'm a beauty therapist and professional younger than my age looker 😉 so here are my tips;

Lush does a body scrub called Ocean Scrub. This product is AMAZING.

Elemis products all very good, especially the marine cream.

I've recently discovered Charlotte Tilbury make up. I love the lipsticks, magic cream and colour chameleon eye shadow sticks and concealer.

Elizabeth Arden sell the best body cream.

lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 15:45

I have been going on a sun bed for 12 minutes a week. It's a brand new one which corrects some of the damage it does. Generally you should avoid this but in moderation I think it's ok.

lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 15:47

Please stop using retinol - I always see that recommended on here. It's too harsh.

I would recommend a diamond peel microdermabrasion or glycolic peel done by a professional - should only be left on for 5 minutes Max.

lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 15:52

Everyone has different skin types and one peel / product won't be right for everyone.

If money is tight then go to the local beauty college and book microdermabrasion and caci treatments. Much cheaper and the students are supervised.

user187656748 · 13/01/2018 15:57

I use a retinol product in particular areas (for me, around my eyes, on forehead and around my mouth). I only use it once a week but on the other days I also use nip and fab glycolic toning pads and every third day I use liquid gold. I am mid forties and have no lines at all around my eyes/mouth.

I use tazarotene cream 0.1% which is prescription only but you can buy it on the internet

I'm in (although have never made it through to the end with any princessing thread before - I was on the original one!)

YolandasFridge · 13/01/2018 17:54

Ooh user i like the sound of your tinternet retinol, what strength is it?
The Ordinary 2% not doing much for me at the moment

Agree with everything below apart from the sunbed use, sorry Hmm

Rockchick The original st tropez in shower gradual tanner is v pale and as you wash it off there's no smell. Did nothing for me but might work for you? Otherwise good old Summer Body in light?

M&S radiance peel ( aka face footner from the advent thread) is fantastic

OP posts:
YolandasFridge · 13/01/2018 17:58

Another vote here for alpha -h liquid gold and Nip Fab glycolic pads ( now do a sensitive version too if original too sting-y)

Even after using both of these regularly I'm amazed at all the grey stuff the Face footner takes off ( and no its not just the product coming back off its BLACK!)
I think my skin has a low turnover rate, is that even a thing?!

OP posts:
user187656748 · 13/01/2018 18:20

The tazarotene I have is 0.1% but its a stronger product than the 0.5% retinoids you can buy over the counter. The percentage is a bit misleading because it simply shows the percentage of active products in the cream base. The key is which product is stronger in the first place.

Retinoids OTC (over the counter) - weakest
retinols
retinA, tazarotene and tretinoin (prescription or internet only) (strongest)

So my understanding is that a 0.5% off the shelf product from the Ordinary (for example) is much weaker product than a 0.1% tretinoin gel/cream.

Mine was from Pharmacy Geoff

Step 1 in my princessing today - I have had three inches chopped off my hair so that all the thin bits at the end are gone. It's now blunt and swishy again.

About to watch a movie with the DC and paint my nails.

user187656748 · 13/01/2018 18:25

That radiance peel from the M&S advent calendar is very good. I put some onto what I thought was a perfectly cleansed face the other day and still had loads of peely stuff come off. My skin looks better after using it.

lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 18:28

The Alpha H stuff is indeed good. And it also looks nice on the back of your hands. Sun beds usually are bad but the newest ones don't damage like they used to.

halfwitpicker · 13/01/2018 18:46

I use an Hawaï in Tropic fake tan and it's really good. Subtle. Makes me look like I've been cycling at 5pm on a warm day for a week, rather than roasting in Benidorm at noon for a fortnight.

Tried on one of my favourite skirts today and my belly is still too chubby so I'm totally on the weight loss thing now - I need to wear that skirt!

Today I've eaten :
Natural yogurt and no sugar fruit compote
Two egg mushroom and spinach omelette
Bowl lentil and veg soup
Lots of water and coffee
Dinner will be roast pork loin, heaps of veg and maybe a jp

Have a good weekend princesses Grin🚵👜👙
