Watching the movie 'table 19' and Anna Kendricks red cardigan spoke to me..I don't usually do red but the next day I went out and got one from Debenhams and it's a refreshing change from my normal look which has got some items of clothing I have had for over ten years..(or longer Blush)

If anyone say The Death of Stalin, the prussian blue, full length, Dior 'New Look' type dress worn by the painist.

Lush!

Anne hathaways outfits after she gets the job in devil wears prada.
Angelina jolies outfits in the tourist.

Most recently it is the dress worn by Laura Dern in the latest Star Wars film. Prior to that everything worn by Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face.

One of my favourite Frock Moments from a film is in Calamity Jane when Doris Day takes her cloak off at the dance to reveal her makeover and everyone stares at her slackjawed. It always gives me a 'you go girl!' feeling Grin

I also liked that Laura Dern outfit.

Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story.

Everything worn by Renee Russo in The Thomas Crown Affair. Even now, nearly 20 years on.

Lottapianos · 07/01/2018 10:42

Thanks for the reminders about Rene Russo in The Thomas Crown Affair. I remember just dying about how gorgeous she looked. Must rewatch it

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/01/2018 11:08

I would LOVE to have as many gorgeous coats and bags as Olivia Pope does in Scandal, but alas I'm not a highly paid Washington DC fixer!

Tea, I agree with you about Along Came Polly. Didn’t JA wear a gorgeous dress in the salsa scene and an amazingly simple wedding dress at the end?

mirandasings · 07/01/2018 11:29

This thread is amazing for outfit ideas!

Mostly anything Ada wears in peaky Blinders and something’s aunt polly wears. And also the iconic Alabama outfit!

And I know it’s not a film but a music video. I LOVE this outfit on jade in the black magic video.

Also if anyone is interested Polyvore is a really good website/app with outfit ideas and where to get them. You can also make your own outfit mood boards!

Audrey Tatou's style in Amelie. So chic.

lucysnowe · 07/01/2018 12:07

Oh yes I forgot I LOVED Rene Zellweger's cardie in Jerry Maguire

Thank you carriebradshaw! Glad that you understood.

Another one that I kind of love, a bit understated is Marie Rivière in le Rayon Vert. It reminds me of living in la France

Mia Farrow's maternity wardrobe in Rosemary's Baby.

(Would also happily buddy up with Satan if it meant living in that apartment.)

Oh I desperately wanted Rene Russo's hairstyle from the Thomas Crowne affair! - but it never worked on me.

I loved all the heroine's clothes in the Devil wears Prada, when she starts getting fashiony.

I can't find a pic, but in the film Betty Blue when they go to stay with her friend, the friend has an incredibly chic casual, just-got-up look wearing a red hoodie. I LOVED it but again of course a red hoodie wouldn't make me look like that.

And not a movie but I lusted after Carrie Mathison's super-fine gauge, luxe t-shirts in Homeland. In heavy-going scenes where she's in tears and going insane, I was just thinking "oohh I want that t-shirt - but I bet it's Alexander Wang and costs ££££, bah!"

annandale · 07/01/2018 15:28

Everything Mia Farrow wore in Death on the Nile. It's celebrity costume work rather than great costuming, because Mia' s character isn't supposed to be rich or sophisticated IIRC but her clothes so are. That 30s look mediated by high end 70s Park Avenue/Studio 54 sensibility is always the way I want to look in my head, but actually end up as Angela Lansbury in the same film because I can't resist shiny things.
Best ever blouse

I also adore the second Mrs Winter's outfits in Rebecca - the messy tweeds and then devastating strapless black evening dress that Max laughed at. God she should so have LTB and gone off with Mrs Danvers.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2018 13:25

Currently watching old episodes of Friends and I'd still wear pretty much everything Jennifer Aniston did from season 5 onwards.

Anything that the female characters wear in Peaky Blinders - particularly the dresses that Polly, Lizzie and Arthur's wife (whose name I can't remember) wear to the boxing at the end of the last series - just fabulous.

Keira Knightly's dress in Atonement

Kate Winslet's hat in Titanic, when she gets out of the car and sees the ship for the first time - told DH that was my Ascot hat (we haven't been in years)

The costumes in Bette & Joan - wonderful colours. Makes me wonder why I'm always in black. Actually, the whole series, including the costumes, has been brilliant.

And all those lovely gowns from the 30's to 50's, when people really dressed up. I'd love to swish around in a gown.....
