I've seen better for cheaper tbh sorry

Naughty1205 · 23/10/2017 11:53

OP I love this coat too! It just looks heavy and rich, love the material, if I had the funds I'd go for it!

WhataHexIgotinto · 23/10/2017 12:00

It's like AIBU has spilled over to here

Agreed. It's a shame. If you don't like the coat, fine, but to tell someone they're 'being ridiculous' is just unkind. I'm not sure what people get out of just being bitchy.

surferjet · 23/10/2017 12:20

Normally I’d agree WhataHexIgotinto - but the thread title is so over the top it’s silly.
No one should feel embarrassed that they’d look like an ‘empress’ in what is essentially, a very average coat.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 23/10/2017 12:26

One man's meat is another man's poison, otherwise they'd just issue uniforms.

BulletFox · 23/10/2017 12:28

OP it would keep you very warm. Can you go into store and try it on first?

You just reminded me of my 'empress' coat, it's alberta ferretti very heavy cotton/wool and sculptured like a dream but it's CREAM. It doesn't work with dry cleaning and as I'm so scatty and messy I get terrified of marks on it. Had it 10 years.

You just reminded me to put it on a wash Grin

If you really love it and can afford it then get it as an investment coat

Floisme · 23/10/2017 12:28

Have you never tried on something that looks very average on the hangar but makes you feel like royalty or a screen goddess?
If we can't be over the top about clothes on Style & Beauty then I'm really not sure what the point of it is.

WanderingTrolley1 · 23/10/2017 12:36

Nothing special about it at all. Looks like something you could get in Asda.

Ponyboycurtis · 23/10/2017 12:38

Haven't RTFT but I just wanted to say it's beautiful. The sort of good I would be loving myself in, even if no - one else was!

No idea if it will stand the test if time but if u can afford it & you love it, buy it.

Gruach · 23/10/2017 12:38

And well said Enid, on calling out the '87 year-old' comment.

Seconded.

The price is irrelevant if you love it and can pay for it OP. I only ever buy things I fall in love with. (Having found that sensible economising just leaves me in miserable possession of something insufficiently flattering and joy bringing.)

(Isn't there just a little too much stitching and fuss at the back though?)

Ponyboycurtis · 23/10/2017 12:38

*coat

macnab · 23/10/2017 12:41

I had to check the link to the coat several times whilst reading this thread, to make sure I hadn't missed something glaringly obvious! I think its a lovely coat. I'm not mad on red but I love it in grey, and I think the cut of it is fab and it looks really lovely. I have short arms, so I was glad to see it might actually fit me!!

OP, you sound totally smitten with this coat and really that's all that matters. If you can afford to buy it without the sale of a kidney then I'd go for it Smile It will make you happy, doesn't matter a jot what anyone on this thread or anywhere else thinks of it. Buy it and enjoy wearing it Flowers

BulletFox · 23/10/2017 12:49

Can you seriously sell a kidney??

WhyWouldYouThinkThat · 23/10/2017 12:57

I get that it's not to everyone's taste but it clearly looks like an expensive coat. The material, the cut even the buttons make it look nothing like any Asda version might.

Not dissing Asda - their tshirts are brill Wink

Update:
Tried it on. The weight of it is lovely, it's thicker than average wool coat, the tailoring is very detailed, the sleeve loop, the cut at the back: buttons, all beatifully luxurious. But the 10 swamped me on the shoulders and it was a bit too long, the 8 was straining over hips. Also the shade of red was more orange than I'd like. Prefer a more muted red. Still a beautiful coat, omg, gutted I can't carry it off, but it's not beautiful on me so the hunt continues.

I thought the thread title was funny surferjet. It's my humour, a nod to the emperor's robe. Like style and beauty is, usually, fun . Therefore saving me from being accused of taking myself too seriously as that was the tale I myself referenced. That was the thinking behind my thread title. Brew peace and love.

Ah that’s a shame ... or maybe not as it frees you to seek the Coat of Your Dreams...

Wh1stles · 23/10/2017 14:38

Nothing less will do!

Nothing from Asda :-p

Wait til the sales you could get something amazing with your budget. I also think it's a lovely coat pity it didn't work for you.

Therealslimshady1 · 23/10/2017 16:29

I totally got the thread title humour through exagerration

I totally get that it is a superior coat, and no, nothing in Asda will come close

I also get this burning desire for clothes that are £££ at times

And the idea that in 5 years time it would be so outdated it could be used by kids to dress up is hilarious. Grin

Anyway, good luck with the coat hunt OP. Am currently in love with a Reiss coat, but way too expensive so am talking myself out of it.

Wh1stles · 23/10/2017 16:48

Thanks TheRealSlimShady1 Reiss coats lovely, you're worth it! Grin
