Yes she's a clever sod is VW, very clever. I actually feel quite safe lusting after it as there's no way I can ever afford it whereas at, say £500, I start thinking it might be in reach if I can just persuade husband and son to live on lentils for six months.

Nettletheelf · 23/10/2017 22:40

That Westwood coat is stunning. She’s gone for the early 18th century sack backed gown vibe.

Wh1stles · 23/10/2017 22:41

Wow Flo, thanks for linking. The first one is interesting, kind like a Kapono, (cape kimono! did I make up a portmanteau) it's v daring. Most would not be able to carry it off, I'm too short myself but I can see it is not your run of the mill coat. The MH one is lovely. There's no way you'd feel differently about it in five years I don't think. If you like it now you will like it in five years. It has that longevity about it. I had not heard of MH so now I will have to peruse the site Wine

One woman in my dress design club is making a coat which is a really audacious project. One day.......

I'm thinking of training to make coats myself after seeing this thread Halloween Grin

Wh1stles · 23/10/2017 23:02

It would take five years of training!

I think the model is hungry. Or just pissed off she can't afford the coat.

WhyWouldYouThinkThat · 24/10/2017 07:48

Is this the VW coat? It's, umm, interesting 😂 I don't think I could pull it off.

Yes that's the one. Her clothes are often a lot more wearable than they look. That's what so clever about them - they're not just bonkers for the sake of it.

In the case of the coat - I'm not likely to ever find out for myself but I enjoy looking and trying on.

Volontaire · 24/10/2017 08:11

VW’s pieces are amazing. They are instantly recognisable but very wearable. They also show you know what proper tailoring is. MH is the same, and with your budget OP you could probably afford one of her wool coats. They are true classics and will become collectors items, like VW.

I’d far rather blow a grand on some proper tailoring than a mass produced Burberry with a gold tag. Burberry’s aimed at the Chinese - people who want something they perceive as quintessentially British.

HouseholdWords · 24/10/2017 09:01

Ditto. And if you choose a flattering classic style, they'll last.

WhataHexIgotinto · 24/10/2017 10:17

Normally I’d agree WhataHexIgotinto - but the thread title is so over the top it’s silly.
No one should feel embarrassed that they’d look like an ‘empress’ in what is essentially, a very average coat.

I took the thread title as a joke surfer, I didn't think the OP actually thought she would look like an Empress. Though even if she did, I don't believe that's an excuse for just being a cow to someone. Totally unnecessary.

fruitlovingmonkey · 24/10/2017 10:57

I normally like VW's bonkers tailoring but that coat looks like the model is halfway out of a straight jacket!
Sorry Blush

hendricksyousay · 31/10/2017 12:35

@Wh1stles did you buy the coat ? I’m debating the grey Burberry for my birthday 🤗🤗

Mumsnut · 31/10/2017 17:11

I spent nearly 2 grand on my dream coat. 'Tis a thing of extreme beauty.

But I hardly dare wear it. Would never trust it to a cloakroom, even a manned one (especially a manned one). A sniff of rain and it goes back in the cupboard. Last train home, surrounded by people eating onions and burgers and waving cans around? Not a chance.

Nettletheelf · 31/10/2017 22:44

What was the 2 Grand dream coat?? We must know! Full description and pictures if possible. Coat porn!!!

Therealslimshady1 · 01/11/2017 08:04

Yes, do tell us.

And do wear it!

Beautiful yet unworn garments make me sad

Mumsnut · 01/11/2017 10:18

I can't! It would out me

wiltingfast · 01/11/2017 12:00

I bet the quality is not coming across in the photo.

The fit too is probably superior.

You’d really need to go and try it on and see if it thrills you in the flesh.

I’d be worried that the price does not actually reflect the quality and you won’t get a longer time out of it.

Also a funnel neck is prone to catching make up?

If I saw a coat 3 times my usual budget and absolutely adored it, i might well buy it. Why not? Life is short. Get your pleasures where you can Smile

Wh1stles · 01/11/2017 19:29

Ha ha, coat porn! V funny!
