Sorry Wh1stles I must remember to put ‘sense of humour’ on my shopping list.
Sorry Blush ( & thanks for the Brew Smile )

I spent £150 on a Seasalt waterproof warm fur lined parka last year and felt guilty. I wore it ever day in the winter walking DS. I am back in it today. But £850 is a lot of money for a very ordinary coat. The MaxMara are beautiful but way beyond my means.

Therealslimshady1 · 23/10/2017 17:02

Ah yes, maxmara, grown up Italian proper coats

RidingWindhorses · 23/10/2017 17:52

That is a coat worth spending £850 on. Shame it's over a grand. Grin

But it may well come down in the sale.

HouseholdWords · 23/10/2017 18:32

Oh I love MaxMara. I remember a few years ago (oh probably almost a decade ago Wink I'm old) they started doing those cocoon coats - so gorgeous, and in soft wool or cashmere.

I wish I could have afforded one. I think it would still be going strong.

HouseholdWords · 23/10/2017 18:35

If we're posting dream coats, this MaxMara coat is gorgeous:

HouseholdWords · 23/10/2017 18:36

Although I'd have to put a lining into it!

Floisme · 23/10/2017 18:43

Pardon my French but fuck me, that Max Mara is beautiful.

I'm a bit Shock at £2715 and still no lining though!

EdithWeston · 23/10/2017 18:45

TheRealSlimShady

If that red coat were a few inches longer, I think it would be my exact dream coat.

Freshprincess · 23/10/2017 18:46

Those MaxMara coats are gorgeous, especially the red one, it's a proper grown up lady coat. I'd have to wear it every day for the rest of my life to get the cost per wear down to something I could actually afford.

I wouldn't trust myself with a white coat that cost £27 never mind £2700.

Therealslimshady1 · 23/10/2017 18:49

...I have a feeling there will be increased demand for these nice coats on ebay now Grin

Off to have a look!

Wh1stles · 23/10/2017 18:52

I'D LOVE to see the coat you're hankering after @FLOISME i HOPE you link to it!

Household, ah yes, very classy coat

flingingmelon · 23/10/2017 18:57

It’s a lovely coat OP but word on the street is that Burberry quality isn’t that great right now. Their jersey fabric is rubbish.

Take the risk but keep your receipt. Hope I’ve just had a bad run.

RidingWindhorses · 23/10/2017 19:08

Speaking of eBay, about 15 years ago I bought a brand new 100% cashmere Maxmara coat with the price tag of £900 still on for £150 on eBay.

HouseholdWords · 23/10/2017 19:22

I'm a bit shock at £2715 and still no lining though!

Yeah - I think it's the "style" - but it'd be easy enough to draft & fit a lining & sew it in by hand very lightly.

Floisme · 23/10/2017 19:25

Ok op if you insist Smile
It's actually a toss up between this Vivienne Westwood and this Margaret Howell.

Like I say, neither look that special onscreen but I've seen them in real life and bloody love 'em both. The MH is so understated and so cool and the VW is slightly bonkers but so clever. Both women are my style heroes anyway.

And if you'll allow me a small brag, I've recently found a Margaret Howell coat in a charity shop for £20 Shock It's midi length, in a very dark grey, wool pinstripe. It's at the dry cleaners at the moment (and I'm paranoid in case they lose it) and I'll then need to take it to a tailor's to get some alterations so will probably come out at £80-£100 but very exciting times.

Sorry. As you were.

Paintbox · 23/10/2017 19:30

Flo I LOVE the vw one

ShirleyPhallus · 23/10/2017 19:33

Flo I am shocked you'd spend that much on a coat, couldn't you buy a bench...?

Grin

I absolutely love the VW one. Looks like the money you'd spend on it if that makes sense. Not taken on the second one, the first one much more stylish and unusual. If you buy it can you come back and post a picture of it?

Floisme · 23/10/2017 20:04

Yeh the MH is less distinctive but very beautiful in a low key kind of way. VH is a little bit mad as always but not gimmicky - it's actually very flattering.

Oh and I'm never going to buy either of them. Well not unless one of them turns up in a charity shop and I think I've used up my lifetime supply of luck in that department. Grin

banivani · 23/10/2017 20:28

OP that is the PERFECT red colour. PERFECT 😍😍😍😍 however I can agree with comments about the quality (without being a complete cat about it 🙄) - in my experience from working in a dry cleaners those leather trimmed yokes requiring “specialist leather care” are more trouble than they’re worth. Also the wool content is a little low for the 850 quideroonies. I’m helping you make an informed decision here ;) by if it fits you like it was made for you and you have the cash, make yourself happy.

And thanks a fecking lot Flo for showing me that VW coat 😩

BuzzKillington · 23/10/2017 20:32

I love it. You wouldn't get much wear out of it though - red's a bit restricting.

Having said that, my entire wardrobe is black, grey or white - so I could wear it with anything!

Anatidae · 23/10/2017 20:33

Oh flo both are gorgeous!

But yes you should probably fashion yourself a hair shirt from Brillo pads .... 😁

Love the VW. No one quite like her.

tribpot · 23/10/2017 21:47

Love that VW. Totally classic.
