Thanks for the tip, silk - your coat sounds lovely Smile I'm also struggling to find one in my size (especially as I'm not an Ebay fan). I have to keep telling myself there's no rush.

@LavenderHills

Ha - I see your naturalistic teddy bear coat and raise you The Burberry Pink Fur which is a cunning colour designed to suit nobody. They even have matching plastic skirts Grin

Anatidae · 23/10/2017 09:31

I love that model's expression. She is quite literally thinking, “fuck sake...” 😂

hendricksyousay · 23/10/2017 09:35

I love it , id buy the grey though!

LavenderHills · 23/10/2017 09:35

@C8H10N4O2 Good gracious! I love a ridiculously snuggly coat, but I don't think I'll ever be able to un-see that colour Shock

ImperfectTents · 23/10/2017 09:38

It's not even 100% wool get thee to Dorothy Perkins or wallis (does wallis still exist?)

notacooldad · 23/10/2017 09:39

Hang on! You are not going cycling in it are you?

Owlettecatboy · 23/10/2017 09:39

I have it in black. It is gorgeous and I feel so smart in it. That said it was a present from my dad and I wouldn’t have spent that much on it. The quality is nowhere near what I would have expected for the price. I have had mine for 3 years and it is looking very worn. Burberry offer a repair service but they are quoting £275! I have just spent that on a new Ted Baker coat!

buttwingsham · 23/10/2017 09:42

If you love it op go for it.
If everyone liked the same thing we would all wear the same coat.
It's not personally my style and I do think you could get something very similar for less money but if it's the coat of your dreams buy it.

Nettle buy the Gucci it's stunning.

squeaver · 23/10/2017 09:51

That button between the shoulder blades will mean you can never sit down in it.

Also, I HATE that stupid gold Burberry tag - yuk.

HouseholdWords · 23/10/2017 09:53

It's Okaaaaaay, but I don't like those "technical" wool mixes. Anything other than a pure wool or wool/cashmere blend pills, IME. The polyesters (basically plastic) will make it "easy-care" but pure wool is far better. I have several pure wool coats now around 20 years old (but I make them myself in classic designs and with excellent tailoring details).

HouseholdWords · 23/10/2017 09:54

Also, I think that clothes with obvious labels or identifying details are just naff.

Sorry, OP - it is a lovely coat, but I am picky - mostly because I can make my own.

haveagobletofblood · 23/10/2017 09:58

£850 for a coat. You are being ridiculous.

haveagobletofblood · 23/10/2017 10:00

It also reminds me of Martine McCutcheons red coat in Love Actually.

Viviene · 23/10/2017 10:02

If you love it and the quality is good, buy it OP!
Red looks crap on me but the grey one is really nice :-)

Theseaweed · 23/10/2017 10:02

Again, I feel it's a little boring. Nice enough but not wow in any way.

LoafEater · 23/10/2017 10:07

I had one identical to that from BHS.

Theseaweed · 23/10/2017 10:08

Loaf 🤣

Molecule · 23/10/2017 10:11

Well I think it's lovely, and as I'm somewhat short I need a well tailored coat and could be tempted by it. However I would be worried that Burberry is going for cheaper materials etc. Max Mara are much more of a genuine garment maker, with an excellent cut and there are a number of their coats I'd love, especially this for cold winter walks (working on the assumption if I could afford over £5,000 I wouldn't be too fussed about a bit of mud or doggy paw prints).

I'd try on the coat, check out the fabric and if it is wonderful go for it.

notacooldad · 23/10/2017 10:14

I was in the Trafford centre and Manchester last week and there were loads of costs like that in Selfridges and Harvey Nicks. I wasn't particularly looking but I'd put my salary down on many of them not costing half as much as that.
But, if that's what you want and can afford it, why not.
I find when i have bought expensive clothes thinking they will be an investment and last for ever I get get bored of them after a couple of years.

EyeRollChampion · 23/10/2017 10:14

@HouseholdWords yes that is my issue. I could make this in a day or 2 with nicer materials (silk lining!) and details for a fraction of the price, and I wouldn't be paying through the nose for the privilege of advertising someone else's grossly overpriced goods.

Of course it is your choice, OP, but I think you'll regret it. You're essentially paying for the label rather than materials or even the most fairly costed labour. I hate it when companies do that.

herecomesthsun · 23/10/2017 10:33

My 5 year old would love that pink fluffy coat.

hendricksyousay · 23/10/2017 10:42

Those saying it isn’t 100% wool , the material it’s made of won’t pick up all the horrible fluff like a wool coat would . I really love it , I might put it on my xmas list !

RidingWindhorses · 23/10/2017 11:08

I'm putting this on my Christmas list (from the Maxmara link). Not wowsers, but it's 100% wool and nicely cut. (And a comparative snip - £450)

A coat so beautiful, I'd feel embarrassed to be such an empress in it
Jux · 23/10/2017 11:29

It would last for years but in 5 years it will be so completely out of fashion and the look will be so wrong, you will cringe to think you ever wore and your children will be using it for dressing up.
