I find it a bit meh. But I know the all-consuming feeling of having found The Thing That You Want. If this has got your name on it, why are you even asking us for permission to buy it? Life's too short.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/10/2017 22:50

If you absolutely love it then just buy it. I'm sure actually that designer items do often look nicer in real life as the quality is better.

Lolz at people not buying it though because the model is all mardy.

blanklook · 22/10/2017 22:50

OP, please try it on, if it makes you feel like a million dollars and everything about it is perfect for you then buy it and wear it with a huge smile. wear it with any expression you like, but please, not the expression of the model Halloween Grin

FreakinScaryCaaw · 22/10/2017 22:51

You made me want a red coat so I just bought one.

Mine's cheaper but I never spend much in clothes. I got 20% off too. I think if you have the money and love the coat go for it. And like you say you don't drive. My car costs me a fortune.

Here is mine.

Lanaorana2 · 22/10/2017 22:51

I had no idea Burberry had bought BHS old stock.

ToadTheVampireThreadKiller · 22/10/2017 22:54

Max Mara coats are not all long, there are many styles. They are an investment, and you can actually have them shortened you know Wink.

I have a shorter one, and previously also had a long one. Would love another one but have far too many coats and don't need one although thinking about it maybe I DO need one after all.

Dowser · 22/10/2017 22:59

Fsc..nice but doesn't look double breasted to me .
I thought double breasted was two sets of buttons.

RidingWindhorses · 22/10/2017 23:06

Yes there are plenty of kneelength MaxMara coats. I used to have a dark red one it's a lovely colour to wear in the winter.

NC4now · 22/10/2017 23:09

Would I pay x3 £££s for a coat I loved and would wear for years to come? If I had the money, yes.

RightOnTheEdge · 22/10/2017 23:09

I really love it! It's gorgeous.
It is more than 10x what I could afford.
If you can afford it then definitely go for it!
Then post a picture or tell us all about it so I can dream about it Grin

If someone can link to one like that that costs about £20 then that would be great Wink Grin

Nettletheelf · 22/10/2017 23:14

Haha Cocopuffs I feel better about not having the Gucci coat now! Principles at Debenhams = the kiss of death.

CakesRUs · 22/10/2017 23:14

If you love it and can afford it - go for it.

Ceto · 22/10/2017 23:15

Are you sure it's zip up, OP? There's no mention of a zip in the bit where they give all the details and it says it's front button closure.

Wh1stles · 22/10/2017 23:53

nettletheelf I've just seen your gucci link and I'm not encouraging you to buy it! but I do think it's lovely. Except maybe for the ribbon detail at the neck, that might be a detail too far. Reminds me of the Hobbs Gwyneth single breasted coat.

It's nicer than the ones linked because it has some shape to it. It goes in at the waist when done up properly. Straight up and down boxy shapes seem to be very popular on MN for some reason.

I honestly think if it said £150 instead of £850 you would have got less scathing replies. A bit how the expensive handbag threads go.

Personally I think it's nice but I'd pass it by whilst browsing for a coat as it's not what I'm looking for. I'm not keen on how a funnel neck looks on me.

But you're the one who'll be wearing it, if it's the one that makes your heart sing then buy it. Never mind what anyone else thinks. Having seen lots of those threads where the OP ask for help finding an outfit, I know we all have very, very different tastes on here. It's a good thing, it'd be boring otherwise, just not when you're posting a link to your dream coat.

EnidButton · 23/10/2017 00:11

It’s awful and looks like my 87 year old neighbour’s.

Have to call this out though. An older woman wearing something being used as a negative thing is ageism and bullshit. There are plenty of very fashionable, stylish women in their 80's and 90's. There are plenty who aren't. Same as any other age. Maybe your neighbour isn't fashionable, maybe she is, but her age has got nothing to do with it.

InigoTaran · 23/10/2017 00:20

Grim

Wh1stles · 23/10/2017 00:24

I agree Enid. Plenty of young people walking about looking like they've been pulled backwards through a bush in the name of more fleeting fashions!

I see it as a design classic.

I complimented my mother's friend on her coat a while back, we were in the back of a church having tea. It was very Mad Men, probably from the 60s!

I did say I was in my 40s btw!

OP posts:
SchnitzelVonKrumm · 23/10/2017 00:44

It's not a classic, look at the awful neither
-one-thing-nor-the
-other collar. And I have an embarrassing number of lovely coats that were meant to be "classics".

MyBabyIsAWerewolfAhwooooo · 23/10/2017 00:54

I don't think the models help. Buy this expensive coat and look as miserable as me. And her posture is awful. Aren't the models supposed to look uplifted by the clothes??

HeteronormativeHaybales · 23/10/2017 01:00

It's nothing special IMO. Certainly not 850 quid's worth of special. But it's not 'worst fashion mistake of my life' territory, far from it. You love it, you can afford it, you get it and enjoy it. :)

tracymars · 23/10/2017 01:57

I wouldn't spend that much on a coat. But I just don't have £850 to spend on a coat. I think you need to make up your mind based on how easily you can afford it. How good the quality is. How well it fits you, for that price it needs to fit you pretty damn well. And how amazing you feel in it and how good it looks. It's a nice looking coat. I've had a couple of red wool coats in the past and I've loved them and would wear them with everything as in my mind the red went with everything :-)

If you buy it I hope you really enjoy it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/10/2017 02:14

It does the sum total of nothing for me. Total meh. But the whole point is whether YOU love it. If you do, buy it.

I spent a ridiculous amount on Tiffany sunglasses. I wear them every day and they are worth it to me. That's what matters.

Italiangreyhound · 23/10/2017 02:34

Please OP send your £800 to feed those models!
