Sorry, I think its utterly awful For £850 Id want something that would 'stand out' a little, that looks special. This really doesn't do either.

Sorry OP. Its a no go from me.

AfterSchoolWorry · 22/10/2017 22:15

Wow. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

To me it looks functional and soulless. My heart would sink at the thought of wearing it!

Twillow · 22/10/2017 22:15

It's just a coat.
I would buy a car if I had that much to spend.

hiddley · 22/10/2017 22:15

It's not really a timeless classic?

lookingbeyond40 · 22/10/2017 22:16

I'm in my 40's! You don't have to have flounces and frills to be fashionable or stylish! I'm not a classic dresser and never will be, but hopefully I still have a style that suits my personality as well as my age.

KungFuEric · 22/10/2017 22:16

I don't think you'd love it in 2/3 years time, so is £850 a price you'd pay for one or two winters wear?

viques · 22/10/2017 22:18

Wax coated jeans? My buttocks are clenching at the thought, I bet they rub.

hiddley · 22/10/2017 22:18

If you're into fashion, you'll find that certain styles of buttons etc. go out of fashion each year. As do colours. This might be good for Christmas church, but I can't see it lasting you a few years. If you would normally have 850 to spend each winter then go for it, but otherwise I wouldn't.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 22/10/2017 22:21

www.jigsaw-online.com/product/pressed-flannel-funnel-neck-coat/J33945_RE029. Just over a quarter of the price, probably excellent quality, and a marginally more cheerful model.

nameusername · 22/10/2017 22:21

I can see why Burberry's sale have fallen down. Shock

Redcrayons · 22/10/2017 22:21

I like it, but not £850 like it.

Those models look so miserable, if Burberry we're paying me to wear their coats I'd manage to muster up a smile. I have a policy of not buying off websites when the models look like their cat just died.

alicatte · 22/10/2017 22:21

I do see why you like it so. I love the red. If you can manage to buy it I think perhaps you should, but pad off down to a burberry's and look at it first. If it still speaks to you ... you would probably wear it for years so would it be so wrong? I wish you good fortune.

RidingWindhorses · 22/10/2017 22:23

I was expecting something special. It looks very French Connection.

On the plus side it's a cheaper than Maxmara.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/10/2017 22:23

I would buy a car if I had that much to spend.

PLEASE PLEASE can this not turn in to a competitive I am proud to spend nothing on anything I wear or own thread a la the way handbag threads always go??

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 22/10/2017 22:24

I have a Jigsaw red wool coat which does indeed get rolled out for Christmas parties, carol services and trips to the panto. But it was 125 quid in the sale which makes its twenty wears a year over a period of five years seem reasonable.

ToadTheVampireThreadKiller · 22/10/2017 22:24

It is a nice coat but I couldn't be doing with those hidden buttons, they are too fiddly.

My favourite coat was from Max Mara and I have had it for longer than I can remember. Lots to see here, many designs, and they last.

LemonysSnicket · 22/10/2017 22:25

Distinctly average to me ...

Wh1stles · 22/10/2017 22:26

Fgs, I cycle everywhere so I've more than saved what most people spend on petrol. People think nothing of spending that on a car or on road tax or on insurance. It doesn't suit me to have a car right now.

Thank you shirleyPhallus

I'm loving the Maxmara coats!!

scrambles for credit card

Wh1stles · 22/10/2017 22:27

I love maxmara but there's are a little long on me. I'm quite short. Another reason why the one I've linked too is looking good to me. Must try it on!

OP posts:
Wh1stles · 22/10/2017 22:29

I do really like that rust coloured jigsaw coat that was linked! The colour is beautiful. BUT ....it's not that special. The Burberry one looks heavier.

Nettletheelf · 22/10/2017 22:30

I ALMOST talked myself into this:

www.net-a-porter.com/gb/en/product/896401?cm_mmc=Google-ProductSearch-UK--t--NAP_EN_UK_PLA--UK+-+GS+-+Designers+-+Low--Designers_INTL&gclid=Cj0KCQjwg7HPBRDUARIsAMeR_0ihoBPaRQ-rG0mq51OsBiHu43KaA5bVDFl5BUt5jfdyx4X7X6NKwPEaAjjSEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Until I came to my senses and thought, are you insane? Would have had to wear it 500 times to get to a sensible cost per wear! It is gorgeous though (even more so in the flesh. I have stroked it in Harvey Nichols more than once).

alicatte · 22/10/2017 22:31

I used to have a red coat, I still have it actually although now I have a black one which I use habitually. It worked well for me with black and navy and was really pretty special with grey and khaki. I am fair in colouring too and think someone who had darker colouring would probably look even better. I enjoyed it.

Nettletheelf · 22/10/2017 22:31

Though actually it looks quite reasonably priced compared to some of the Maxmara coats.

CocoPuffsinGodMode · 22/10/2017 22:33

I actually think it’s lovely Op and nicer than the others people have linked. I’d be a bit concerned about the sleeve length though.

I wouldn’t spend £850 on a coat myself as I’d feel I absolutely must get the wear from it to justify the price which would then make it feel like I’m under pressure to wear it at which point I’d no longer like the coat! Ridiculous but a throwback to a low income upbringing.

Anyway you certainly don’t have to justify the cost, if you really love it and can afford it then go for it Smile.
