I'm honestly really surprised that a lot of people think it's not that special! To me it looks timeless but beautiful, a rich, flattering shade of red, heavy wool, flattering cut, zip up for convenience but buttons for style. I would feel a million dollars in it.

So I should rephrase my question and ask how many would consider buying about three times what they were planning to spend on a coat for a coat they have falled in love with that just ticks every box

I don't like the coat, I think its fine to spend however much you want, but what's that hanging down bit?

Have we spoilt it for you now OP Sad

SofiaAmes · 22/10/2017 22:34

Isn't it too long for cycling?

Mrstumbletap · 22/10/2017 22:34

I have an almost identical one and I think it was £100 from Debenhams a few years back. Still looks lovely.

Wh1stles · 22/10/2017 22:34

Thanks coco

I'd try it on and if it didn't fit PERFECTLY then I wouldn't, cos for that money you do want perfection

Love it,get it!!!

Wh1stles · 22/10/2017 22:35

Sofia, it's a bit shorter than the coat I wear atm.

I like that grosgrain trim nettle. Really something you could dress up or down. Sadly I don't have the funds though.

CocoPuffsinGodMode · 22/10/2017 22:36

Nettleleaf that’s nice but it’s got a bit of a Principles at Debenhams vibe to it for me!

kittyhello · 22/10/2017 22:36

I really like it. Funnily enough the grey one has been on my wish list for a while and I tried it on last week. It fitted me perfectly and the sleeves were fine and not too short at all.

It’s a lot more than what I’d normally pay for a coat but I feel it’s will last a long time. I didn’t buy it but am very tempted as no other coat me tempting me atm like the classic style of this one.

If you love it and can stretch your budget for it then go for it.

BlondeB83 · 22/10/2017 22:36

It’s awful and looks like my 87 year old neighbour’s.

Wh1stles · 22/10/2017 22:38

staples no! nobody has spoilt it for me. I feel certain it's beautiful. It's just the indulgence. There are often handbags up for discussion and my most expensive handbag was from Dune! So I'm not generally extravagant like this but sometimes, you have trawled the internet, trawled every shop looking for what you want............. you finally see it and it aint cheap.

It's quite thin as coats go, it doesnt look very warm. It's more of a jacket.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 22/10/2017 22:41

If you like it, you like it, op. Not everyone has the same taste, why should they? I actually do quite like it, it just wouldn't be worth £850 to me.

BadTasteFlump · 22/10/2017 22:42

Pah

hopsalong · 22/10/2017 22:42

I think it’s a fabulous coat and completely see why you want it. I had a camel Burberry wool coat a few years ago that made me feel chic and pulled-together every day, even over jeans and a grotty H&M t shirt. Was actually a very good investment, though I didn’t pay as much as this because I got it at Bicester village. I would try there to see if you can get it discounted. I would think you might get it half price, especially if you can hold on until the Xmas sales.

Also because basically a very classic style, might be worth looking on eBay / Vestiaire Collective etc if you’re willing to buy a lightly used secondhand one.

alicatte · 22/10/2017 22:43

My sons both cycle and I bought them red windcheaters because it is great to be noticed on a bike. So Wh1stle, it would be even more appropriate for a cyclist! If you love it it will brighten your day for years and years. It seems a classic style to me - there is always a version of a funnel neck coat around. If it still lives with you and you like it 'in the fabric', as it were, I would probably stretch too.

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 22/10/2017 22:43

I think it’s beautiful, I really love it in the grey too. If you love it, it makes your heart skip, puts a smile on your face and makes you feel amazing then hell yes you should buy it!

EarlGreyT · 22/10/2017 22:43

It's quite nice. But for £850, I'd want it to be all wool/cashmere and no bloody polyamide or synthetic fabrics.

sunandmoonshine · 22/10/2017 22:44

Ugliest coats I have ever seen.

Wh1stles · 22/10/2017 22:45

I must google if burberry are at my nearest shopping village. good idea

StrangeLookingParasite · 22/10/2017 22:45

That Jaeger one is beautiful. The fabric looks so luxurious.

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 22/10/2017 22:47

And to answer your recent question then yes if I could afford it I’d much rather pay 3 times the price for the coat I love than make do with the one that is okay. I’ve made that mistake before and always regretted it.

Some of the comments on this post are a bit mean. I know we all have different opinions but there’s a polite way of expressing them.

RavingRoo · 22/10/2017 22:47

The coats at Joules and warehouse look better and they are a quarter of the price.

CocoPuffsinGodMode · 22/10/2017 22:47

Yes and then if you really love it nothing else will do. Even if you buy one almost the same at £400 it still won’t be what you really liked so if you’re anything like me with my crazy tendency to become resentful of clothes/furniture and blame them for not being my no1 choice Blush the cheaper one feels like wasted money because it’s not actually what you wanted!
