do we really like ankle boots with dresses?

I've got thin ankles and slim calves. I think I look a bit ridiculous with ankle boots and a dress. But it's the 'thing' isn't it? I've recently ordered some ankle boots with a 'sock' a slightly higher ankle (Dune) to see if it helps.
But a few years ago, no one would have dreamed of wearing ankle boots with dresses, only trousers.

Am I alone in this?

No, you are not alone and I don't get it either. Attended a 'do' of sorts and the woman was immaculately dressed, looked good until you hit the ankles and the boots!

LivLemler · 06/10/2017 17:05

I'm not sure if I love the look... But it's so bloody comfortable and practical that I wear it a lot. I stick to black tights and black boots, and low boots/shoe boots.

sooperdooper · 06/10/2017 17:07

I always wear ankle boots with dresses and skirts, I like the look :)

Schtinkay · 06/10/2017 17:07

My go to, for years.

CountFosco · 06/10/2017 17:09

I love this look and wear my Chelsea boots with dresses all the time and looking for another pair of ankle boots at the moment. Haven't worn my knee highs for nearly 2 years!

Callamia · 06/10/2017 17:13

I do. Not for smart things, but for everyday - then yes, comfortable and more practical for being outside than shoes.

TitaniasCloset · 06/10/2017 17:15

I love this look on other people but I have short stumpy legs so it doesn't work on me really.

rightknockered · 06/10/2017 17:16

I quite like OTK and knee length boots with dresses as an alternative. I also have skinny ankles, but still like ankle boots. Haven't tried sock boots though

NC4now · 06/10/2017 17:20

I like the look. It suits me. My legs are really long and my ankles are average. Maybe that's the reason?

user21 · 06/10/2017 17:21

Love it

chapthedoor · 06/10/2017 17:22

I'm wearing it right now so yes ! I wear flat Chelsea boots so it's more a casual look for me

Wishingandwaiting · 06/10/2017 17:23

Love it

Wishingandwaiting · 06/10/2017 17:24

Suits tall and slim best

Puddlesy · 06/10/2017 17:25

Not for me. You would have been laughed at for doing it when I was at college.

Sequence · 06/10/2017 17:25

I like it. I remember this look in the 80s, but teamed with long skirts, back combed hair, ankle warmers and armfuls of bangles etc! Smile

Doobigetta · 06/10/2017 17:25

Dunno what "we" make of them, but I think it's a good look, probably at least partly because it's a change from the way they were worn a few years ago with bootcut trousers- something that now looks very dated.

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 06/10/2017 17:26

I think it's a hideous look. I've yet to see it look good on anyone.

Chottie · 06/10/2017 17:26

Love it, love it, love it :)

LilaoftheGreenwood · 06/10/2017 17:28

I like it, it suits me. But over the years I've figured out that if I think I look ridiculous I probably do! So maybe this just isn't your best look.

CointreauVersial · 06/10/2017 17:29

I love this look, although it doesn't always work. Boots that cut off too sharply/squarely at the ankle can look odd and stumpy, so I go for a sock boot (slimmer/higher above the ankle) or a boot with a "dip" at the front. Sock boots can look quite dressy/smart especially if they have a heel.

I find long boots with a dress look a little old-fashioned (although that look is coming back again - can't keep up!).

chirpyburbycheapsheep · 06/10/2017 17:29

Ankle boots with dresses and skirts are like my second skin...my legs are super skinny (think barely any definition between ankle and calf so a thinner version of the cankle) so knee boots always look like wellies on me and I feel (personally for me) knee boots look a bit dated anyway...I don't know why you'd think they wouldn't work...maybe it's just you're not used to it?

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/10/2017 17:29

I love it, either my heeled ones or flats.

Ttbb · 06/10/2017 17:30

Hasn't this been a thing since the 90s?

JKR123 · 06/10/2017 17:32

I saw a young woman wearing a plain longish floaty skirt, strappy vest and ankle boots the other day. The clothes were plain neutral colours and she was tall and willowy. I remember thinking that she looked effortlessly cool in that outfit. I don't think I could have carried it off as I'm not very tall

ZaraW · 06/10/2017 17:34

It's nothing new it's been around for years.
