What does v short hair say about a woman?

Just that really. I was having my (very short) hair cut yesterday and my hairdresser and I were talking and she said that she thought that women with short hair had to be very confident because they had nothing to 'hide behind' and that short hair suggested self assurance to her. I've never thought of myself as self assured so found this really interesting...so, whether you have short hair or not, what does very short hair say to you about a woman?

Short hair doesn't necessarily mean more confidence, it genuinely suits some people very well.
I am confident with long hair, short hair makes my face look incredibly fat.

I've had my hair long and the short, then long again many times. All is says is that I like to change it. I can't imagine keeping the same hairstyle for years and years.

I don't go to a barbers but I do have a male stylist. It's a properly unisex salon that gets plenty of men through, including DH and ds1!

Short hair looks fantastic on loads of women. I had mine short once but found it was high maintenance whereas when long could just tie it up/leave it for too long in between cuts, and also not sure I've got the right face for it (no dainty elfin features here) but I absolutely love short hair and might do it again one day. I don't think it 'says' anything in particular about someone though but I do think people who are ordinarily attractive can suddenly become jaw droppingly stunning with shorter hair and I've never seen someone and though 'urh she should have long hair'

Short hair is chic.

It could mean anything from "middle aged mom look" to "I don't care" to "highly chic and high fashion conscious" to "cute and gamine "

My short hair says "I can't be arsed faffing around with hair products and styling" (lazy).

Also, that in summer I don't want to have the equivalent of a fur coat on top of my head when it's 30C plus.

Mine says that as I got older it got too fine and thin to support any length and this is the only way I don't look like I'm balding. I'm not confident and do feel more exposed somehow then when I had thicker, longer hair.

My 18yr old daughter has really short hair and it looks amazing. She never follows the crowd. Finds it difficult to style though as course and wavy

This thread just shows the real story of patriarcy, women are so conditioned into thinking they have to conform to being men's pretty things, they judge all other women who decide not to play that game.

Long hair = femininity, so a very short cut I'd think butch lesbian.
Some women can get away with a short pixie cut, but only if they're young and very pretty. It really is hard to pull off a very short cut well. Hair just above the shoulders really doesn't take much effort / styling, so I'd think a woman with a very short cut was making a statement. But apart from being a lesbian I wouldn't really know what the statement is?

Just one example of many women I could post who look better with short hair. Please quit the crap about spaniels ears being a superior look.

I have short hair at the moment. It suits me.

Sometimes I have long hair for a change but short usually looks better on me & I don’t see the need to conform to gender stereotypes.

I haven’t given up on my appearance - I just prefer short hair on me.

It is often used to make different statements in different cultures so I suppose it's all relative. For example in some Jewish culture I believe is a sign of a married woman and her fidelity to her husband. Basicly saying im off the market. V short hair is very popular in many African cultures. Many women who play certain sports keep it short for practical reasons. So women as more to do with the fashion movement, subculture or to indentify them selfs as part of a group rather than indipendant personal statment. So to me it can mean a multiple of different things so I don't just jump into a conclusion about woman just because she has short hair.

If I have short hair it means I've forgotten what a pain in the arse it is to style and I'm growning back out again! I think short hair best suits certain types of hair i.e. proper straight or proper curly. Thick wavy hair like mine gets harder to style the shorter it's cut.

I don't think I'd think a particular 'thing' about someone with short hair, like anything else it either suits the person or it doesn't.
