What does v short hair say about a woman?

Just that really. I was having my (very short) hair cut yesterday and my hairdresser and I were talking and she said that she thought that women with short hair had to be very confident because they had nothing to 'hide behind' and that short hair suggested self assurance to her. I've never thought of myself as self assured so found this really interesting...so, whether you have short hair or not, what does very short hair say to you about a woman?

Yeah, barbers don't stop every 2 minutes to ask if they should cut more while hacking off 1mm at a time, so don't cater for the most precious of short haired women, I suppose. I just tell them what I want or show a picture and off they go. No further question, until maybe on the guard size for the buzzed bit.

I feel tempted...
Lesbian, or cancer..?

Helena Christensen look amazing with short hair as did Kate Moss.

I don't think Kate Moss looked her best with short hair. Which is odd as she has the kind of bone structure you think would be shown off to its best advantage with a crop. But no, she looked like Kathy from Eastenders.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 24/09/2017 14:50

I know someone who claims, after being refused a haircut by a barber, said she was about to have a drug test and he acquiesced.

WhatTimeIsItCuckoo · 24/09/2017 15:01

I don't want it buzzed anywhere, would that be an issue with a barber? My main gripe is that if it's not cut properly/short enough at the sides it just sort of stands off my head and drives me mad.

TSSDNCOP · 24/09/2017 15:02

Mine says it makes myvoverall look a lot sharper and less middle aged than a utterly, utterly, stupifyingly boring bob.

It also says I think it looks ace, and I really couldn't give a teeny tiny shit what anyone else thinks.

pullingmyhairout1 · 24/09/2017 15:05

Mine looks shit long. It also says long hair gets messy under a motorcycle helmet

Yesyesyesyeswhatever · 24/09/2017 15:06

Barbers do all over scissor cuts too. No buzzing compulsory. Just my hairstyle requires it. Keeps the cost down too, as need not go for trim for over ear "tufts" for a while!

Ohyesiam · 24/09/2017 15:17

It can say several things

That she has good cheekbones and knows it.

That she is not influenced by media stereotypes, and doesn't need to assert who she is, by " making the most of herself ".

That she likes the look

That she is more about practical than decorative.

That she wants to be part of a "look" , like dykey lesbian.

All valid ( as well as many more I've not thought of), and none of my business.

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 24/09/2017 15:20

I always wondered, if you always wear your hair in a ponytail/tied up quite tight, would it not be more practical to just cut your hair very short /shave it? As the profile is almost the same?

You'd think so, but no. I had my hair short when I was younger and it was much harder work. It's wavy and was a pita unless I used product, which meant that I spent more time washing it too than I do now.
Now it's longer it's so much easier to look after and as I wear it up most of the time, I can get a whole new look by letting it down.

I also hate going to the hairdressers, the whole experience makes me very anxious.

And for the record, I don't dye my hair, wear fake eyelashes or nails, or have a fake tan.

SheepyFun · 24/09/2017 15:58

I have long hair. Because that means that I can cut it myself, and only need to do so rarely. I hate having it in my face, so normally tie it back. I haven't gone for short hair because of the faff (and expense) of hair dressers.

Surely you can spend a lot of time (or very little) on your hair however long it is? I spend minimal time on my appearance (no makeup, hair tied back) because that's my choice. It has, however, helped me be taken seriously when I worked in a very male dominated industry - and given my (ample) chest, there was no mistaking me for a man.

maggiso · 24/09/2017 16:16

My hair is very short because it is too fine and thin to wear long or even mid length. Its not my crowning glory and never will be.

OCSockOrphanage · 24/09/2017 16:20

I have had short hair, mostly a pixie or variant of, since I was 17. I tried growing it when I was a fan of prog rock in the 70s, but my hair grows out not down. I tried to grow it again when I was 45, and hated it. So I keep it shortish and curly (very short at the back so my neck looks long). And I am an absolute maniac about top quality cutting. Vain, too, because I have decent bone structure and features, but am small so I just vanish under a load of hair. Not everyone looks better with long hair. I really really don't.

polyhymnia · 24/09/2017 16:40

In majority of cases that she likes having her hair short- no more or less. I do often notice whether someone has a good cut or not and I must say I probably think this more often about short styles.

imjessie · 24/09/2017 16:53

If I had a face like Frankie from the Saturdays I would have my hair short , sadly I don't so I hide behind my (albeit amazing ) long curly hair .. it's a bloomin pain to maintain though and I'd love the freedom of short hair if I had the face for it!

BusterGonad · 24/09/2017 17:30

Shizzle I think she looks stunning!

What does v short hair say about a woman?
QueenBeex · 24/09/2017 17:37

I love my hair :)

WhatTimeIsItCuckoo · 24/09/2017 18:01

I love that Queen, were you the pp a while back on the thread that said you go to a barber? If so, how do you find the experience? I'm thinking obviously good as it looks great!

QueenBeex · 24/09/2017 18:05

Yea that was me. I've been doing to the barbers once a month for probably 6 months. I enjoy it! They're friendly, talkative, polite. And they get straight to the point. There's no washing it or anything like that. I don't get looked at weird because I'm a female. I don't get treated differently. I'd recommend the barbers over the hair dressers if you have short hair :)

QueenBeex · 24/09/2017 18:05

& thank you!

QueenBeex · 24/09/2017 18:09

And honestly I've seen men in the barbers with longer hair than mine and it isn't an issue. Barbers don't mean they buzz it all off and you're left with nothing lol. They'll happily do just a trim with some sisscors and a little shave in certain places if you wanted that. Obviously you just explain what you want and they will do it, just like a hair dresser :)

GerundTheBehemoth · 24/09/2017 18:10

To me it says they don't mind getting a haircut every couple of months. I hate going to the hairdressers so have long hair (usually tied back).

Threenme · 24/09/2017 18:11

That they like short hair.

WhatTimeIsItCuckoo · 24/09/2017 18:16

Ok might give that a try then Queen, mine is a lot shorter and straighter than yours, think a Jean Seberg/Mia Farrow type style but if it's not cut just right it turns into an awful hat-like look that requires a ton of product, which I also hate!

QueenBeex · 24/09/2017 18:20

Go into a barbers and just explain. They'll really nice and will get it how you want it theyll check and show you before they do it etc.
