A couple of times recently, I've been so flabbergastingly disappointed with a product, I've wanted to tell other people, to save them from the same pain. So I thought it might be useful for us to have a thread, where we could all share this stuff.

I'll start...

Charles Worthington Everyday Gentle Weightless Conditioner, which should be renamed Useless Conditioner. I had high hopes. It promises to stop fine hair from getting bogged down with heavy conditioner. The trouble is that it also doesn't condition or do basic detangling. My DP (who has a hearing problem) could hear my hair breaking when I was brushing it after using the conditioner. That bad.

Chanel soleil tan de Chanel bronze universel is crap aswell.
Some people use it as a base, some use it as a foundation. But it's meant to be a bronzer. It's quite pale, greasy and weird.
I bought some trevor sorbie 'rejuvenate super light oil- nourishing formula with collagen and peptides' reduced for about £1 in Boots Hmm. It was so strange- like putting squeaky-gluey washing up liquid onto my hair. I tried it on DD in case it was just me but I had to wash it straight out, I was scared it was going to ruin her hair!

Can someone explain the concept of bare minerals to me?

Isn't it just a whole load of powder? Or have I got that wrong?

I'm too old for powder.

JoeMaplin · 26/08/2017 23:43

I love beauty flash balm, it makes my (tired, ageing) skin look fantastic!

Agree that the benefit mascara's are pants. I had a benefit girl put some on me in the shop and it looked so bad that she didn't even try to sell it to me.....

IJustLostTheGame · 26/08/2017 23:45

Bare minerals gives me wrinkles I don't have.
Dry shampoo turns my hair into a sticky fur ball of hair mess.

itsbetterthanabox · 26/08/2017 23:48

Rimmel apocalips is rubbish. Meant to be long wear but goes all scummy and wears weirdly and you can't top up.
L'Oréal beauty tubes. Was so excited to find another tubing mascara but it just flakes off. You end up with little bits in your eyes irritating.
Cetaphil cleanser. Doesn't actually cleanse at all plus it isn't even that gentle. Made me breakout.
Simple roller ball eye moisturiser gave me red sore eyes.
Garnier moisture bomb gave tiny little bumpy spots all over.
Touch of silver colour care shampoo (not the purple toning one just the shampoo that you use to help with colour fade) so so drying my hair felt like straw I couldn't get my hands through it. Felt awful.

Californiadreaming15 · 26/08/2017 23:57

Here we go...

I like the L'Oréal root touch up (I was using it on dark brown hair though) John Frieda do a palette touch up which was basically eye shadow I took no shame in taking that back to Boots.

I second the Benefit mascara I don't think it ever full comes off.

Never been a fan of certain mac and Chanel lippys as they are so drying.

I have a pile of curling wands and still not found one I like so would love a recommendation.

Do you put it all over your face?
I bought it full of hope but it has the consistancy of vaseline and the smell of savalon. Surely it blocks your pores and makes you smell like a school nurse?

MountainDweller · 27/08/2017 00:10

I agree, the L'Oréal root touch up is crap. The colour is a good match but it doesn't cover the grey at all (admittedly I'm probably more than 50% grey though). And Chanel nail polishes always chip!

I do like bare minerals though and batiste (have been using both for years).

The Eve Lon cleanser is vile. It smells like a petrol station! Luckily I just had a sample tube.

KimchiLaLa · 27/08/2017 00:10

Charlotte tilbury mascara

Chanel nail polish

littleredpear · 27/08/2017 00:14

St tropez in shower tan. No colour change what so ever. Makes my legs itch.

Chanel nail polish, utterly crap. Ditto OPI.

Mac lipstick. Like putting mud on your lips. So drying.

Colgate max white toothpaste - doesn't clean your teeth. Same as the £12 brush with the whitening pen. Garbage.

Aussie hair serum. Basically grease in a tube.

Neutrogena hydro face wash, stung like a wasp.

Mark Hill fake tan - awful awful colour.

Anything by Temple Spa. Expensive garbage.

MorrisZapp · 27/08/2017 00:17

The ultimate shit product has to be Michael Kors Leg Shine. It was a solid stick, like a deodorant, but brown and a but sparkly.

Literally every magazine featured it in the days before online reviews, I soooo wanted one. Christ, it was probably featured in Exchange and Mart.

Anyway online reviews now say it's the biggest load of crap going, gives no colour or shine to legs, and is actually supposed to be a fragrance.

Phew. Dodged a bullet there. Fuck you, Michael Kors.

fannydaggerz · 27/08/2017 00:22

Dior blackout mascara

Mac lipstick

Pantene foam conditioner

St tropez in shower tan

Lanaa · 27/08/2017 00:26

@SkylarFalls

Are you thinking of 8 hour cream? That's a bit like medicated Vaseline. Beauty flash balm is a slightly luminous cream. It gives me spots but is nothing like Vaseline.

Agree about casting creme gloss hair dye. The actual colour lasts 2 weeks, the chemically dried out hair feel and look never goes. Number 7 foundation match was like being coloured in with chalk. Worst was Bondi beach fake tan, turned my skin green in slimy smears. Oh and philosophy bubble bath which I bought as a treat/ reward to mark losing a stone . It said on the bottle in tiny writing " may cause bladder infections" and it did. The only time I have had cystitis- some bloody treat!

NonnoMum · 27/08/2017 00:34

Are we saying that MOST beauty products are crap?

SylviaPoe · 27/08/2017 00:41

Most skincare maybe.

There's nothing wrong with most lipstick, blusher, highlighter or eyeliner.

Stuff like foundation, primer, colour corrector and powder are hugely dependent on different skin types and tones.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 27/08/2017 00:54

God I love touché eclat. It goes on better with those Beauty blender fancy sponges but there's a knack to getting it in without it making you look 100

That said though the no7 knock off is almost as good.

All fake tan is shit in my opinion and I used to use it obsessively. Boak

Nail varnish over a fiver I noticed no difference whatsoever. Barry m is my favourite brand

Beauty flash ball is ok but no miracle worker. That 8 hour cream is indeed medicated Vaseline

Clinique 3 step cleansing - utterly shit

Sorka · 27/08/2017 01:01

All babyliss products. Even touching a Babyliss product gives me split ends.

Agree about Benefit mascaras drying up immediately.

Used to love Clarins mascara, but last time I bought it it was so dry I ended up with mascara flakes on my face from a brand new bottle.

Essie nail polish. Chips immediately.

Love Barry M and the Maybelline 7 day wear though.

GetOutOfMYGarden · 27/08/2017 01:32

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation - it separated on my face within hours of me sticking the stuff on. I've never had one do this before and I've tried plenty, I've got dry skin.

LesserofTwoWeevils · 27/08/2017 02:35

Nyx lipsticks—might as well just be pigmented coconut oil, so when they get warm they melt and run off your face.

Mac Strobe cream, supposed to illuminate your skin...does absolutely nothing, at great expense.

NearlyFree17 · 27/08/2017 02:48

I love the L'Oréal root touch up spray but I seem to be in the minority.

I agree about Bare Minerals settling in pores though. I wonder if the formulation goes off after a while as it seemed ok at first

CantChoose · 27/08/2017 07:17

Completely agree about Essie nail polish. I bought their top coat and it's terrible.
A friend told me they're great but when I told her I didn't like it she said you have to use only Essie products, they're not comparable with other stuff. Can't be doing with that so I think the top coat was an expensive mistake :(

Ktown · 27/08/2017 07:23

Nars creamy concealer: dries and cracks. The opposite of creamy. I do not understand the love.
8 hour cream: expensive Vaseline
Creme de la mer: expensive baby oil and Vaseline that give you acne.
Chanel les beiges powders: talc and orange
Actually most Chanel make up except the lipsticks

bakedbeansandtuna · 27/08/2017 07:29

Bobbi Brown BB Cream. Really not happy with it. I wish I could find a make up swap site so I could swap it with someone who does, but it is no good for me. I HATE wasting money on these things too argh..
