Shit products - don't waste your money

A couple of times recently, I've been so flabbergastingly disappointed with a product, I've wanted to tell other people, to save them from the same pain. So I thought it might be useful for us to have a thread, where we could all share this stuff.

I'll start...

Charles Worthington Everyday Gentle Weightless Conditioner, which should be renamed Useless Conditioner. I had high hopes. It promises to stop fine hair from getting bogged down with heavy conditioner. The trouble is that it also doesn't condition or do basic detangling. My DP (who has a hearing problem) could hear my hair breaking when I was brushing it after using the conditioner. That bad.

I love both Gimme Brow and BBH.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2017 09:09

Re: Gimme Brow. I don't like eyebrows and don't want to look 'done' or anything at all really, but all Gimme Brow seems to do is make me look a bit dirty.

DeltaG · 28/08/2017 09:14

Great thread!

Egyptian Magic all purpose skin cream. I'd read rave reviews about it and given its 'all purpose' nature, decided to blind buy it in-flight from the duty-free catalogue. First of all, it's not a cream, its a grease and smells like animal fat (and then rancid animal fat after you've had it a while). Impossible to use as a facial moisturiser unless your skin is as dry as a savannah river basin after a drought. Oh, and the packaging is shit too; the print on the pot rub/flakes of in patches and gets stuck to everything. Biggest waste of 30 quid ever!

Agree with Pixi Glow Tonic - did absolutely nothing.

And with great sadness, I also need to name and shame L'Occitane perfumes. Although they smell nice, their staying power it about half an hour. L'Occitane started and is still based in DH's home town in Provence and several friends and family members work there (it's the biggest employer), so we get a constant stream of gifts and discount stuff. They do a range for a spa in Provence called Le Couvent des Minimes, which I really like, but I've never seen it for sale in the UK unfortunately.

Jo Malone fragrances. Lasts 2 minutes.

BeauMirchoff · 28/08/2017 09:43

Lancome Hypnose mascara, C Tilbury Legendary Lashes mascara and MAC In extreme dimension 3D mascara - all shite. Do absolutely nothing to your eyelashes. Also Maybelline lash sensational (waterproof) - really good but it dried out after a month.

Lee Stafford bigger, fatter, fuller shampoo makes my hair greasy and flat.

Nars matte foundation - streaky and incredibly frustrating to apply!

Urglewurgle · 28/08/2017 10:31

I love Gimmie brow but the new one 3D brows or something is pointless!

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/08/2017 10:33

For those with fine, limp, greasy hair here's what does work for me after Aussie products left me with an oil-slick on my head

Wash with Neutrogena T Gel - lather and leave for 5 minutes
Rinse well - vinegar final rinse if you have time
Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula Strengthening Leave-in Conditioner - mid to ends only.

I've got lovely swishy shiny hair again!

FlindersKeepers · 28/08/2017 11:01

@hulder Kamill hand cream must be the one you bought, it is good stuff!
Costs about 2 euros a tube in Germany, so you can leave one by every sink and I often see it in Restaurant washrooms. Hugely popular.

On crap stuff:
Benefit, especially mascara. But I keep trying. Why.
Bare Minerals powders, I do like their Complexion Rescue though.
Shu Uemura Art of Hair Color Lustre Shampoo - why did I pay so much for this? My highlights still look piss yellow.
Kevin Murphy products are shite.
St Tropez in shower dyed the bottom of my feet. Confused
CT Magic Foundation looked like jaundice - so so yellow. Her mascara is also crap.
Seche Vite, Maybelline Great Lash, these are rubbish.
BB BB is claggy, actually most BBs are claggy on me. I don't get Chubby Sticks, they are expensive tinted Labello.
Suqqu Original Foundation made me look like a shop dummy and not in a good way. Horrid.

Owlish · 28/08/2017 11:15

Briefly popping out of lurkdom to say that I bought Kamill hand cream in Home Bargains recently. It's okay, bit of a strange scent, though.

MrsMarigold · 28/08/2017 11:18

L'Occitane shower gel dries my skin out and moisturising hand cream just sits on top.
Creme de la Mer face cream - ridiculously expensive and just like the ponds cold cream my granny used. I ended up using it on my feet.
Aqueous cream - literally burns my skin.
Agree with a previous poster about Benetint.

I love Clarins Beauty Flash Balm and Aussie Shampoo.

woodhill · 28/08/2017 11:21

I quite like pixi glow and Clarins beauty flash.

MrsMarigold · 28/08/2017 11:24

BTW I have quite dry skin and hair which might be why some stuff people say leaves them greasy works well for me.

woodhill · 28/08/2017 11:24

Clarins mascara in gold tube was rubbish and dried up quickly

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 11:43

I love Ausssie 3 minute miracle, and Benefit dandelion as an all over finishing powder which it was originally intended for, I also love Touch Eclat!
My new favorite moisturizer in Astral, beats anti aging rubbish hands down and cheap as chips!
I hate aqueous cream, I didn't get along with TBS Camille cleansing butter as it dried my skin out!

SylviaPoe · 28/08/2017 12:31

Yeah, I love Aussie and Benefit mascaras and dandelion too.

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 13:06

Benefit Rollerlash is a great mascara, I didn't fall in love with They're Real though.

SylviaPoe · 28/08/2017 13:08

I prefer roller lash. I have to curl my eyelashes before using they're real.

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 13:16

I use Rolerlash with the wand like this U like a smile so then it catches all the tiny lashes on the corner.

JuicyCake · 28/08/2017 13:16

Must agree about L'Occitane perfume. I love the scents, but it doesn't last. And it's expensive, same price as Chanel etc...
Also, thanks for the limp, greasy hair tips! Using all sorts of shampoo, but really it's my manky city water that's the problem.

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 13:25

My biggest bug bear is eyeshadow that looks lovely in the pan but has zero pigment! Revlon can be hit and miss. L'Oréal are just sparkles! Some Lancôme are rubbish. I'm prepared to pay good money for eyeshadow. I'd rather pay a lot and get a good finish.
Chanel can appear to be rubbish sometimes but I find you've got to master them and once you have they are beautiful.

JuicyCake · 28/08/2017 13:47

Interesting, Buster. Eye shadow is one thing I've never spent on. I like Bourjois. But I just splashed out on a nice Bobbi Brown palette. Haven't tried it yet...

SylviaPoe · 28/08/2017 13:54

I thought bourjois and Chanel were exactly the same, made in the same factory etc.

Bourjois is the best powder eyeshadow, but I wish there were many more cream eyeshadows, so much more flattering on anyone over 35.

SylviaPoe · 28/08/2017 13:55

Actually, urban decay is great also.

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 13:58

Sylvia Bourjois and Chanel are affiliated but they are by no means the same. Funnily enough I don't own any Bourjois eyeshadow but I do have a lovely Chanel collection and a few Dior palettes too! Grin

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 13:59

Pupa which is hard to find are excellent quality generally too!
