Shit products - don't waste your money

A couple of times recently, I've been so flabbergastingly disappointed with a product, I've wanted to tell other people, to save them from the same pain. So I thought it might be useful for us to have a thread, where we could all share this stuff.

I'll start...

Charles Worthington Everyday Gentle Weightless Conditioner, which should be renamed Useless Conditioner. I had high hopes. It promises to stop fine hair from getting bogged down with heavy conditioner. The trouble is that it also doesn't condition or do basic detangling. My DP (who has a hearing problem) could hear my hair breaking when I was brushing it after using the conditioner. That bad.

I remember Pupa from years ago... They used to come in shapes like flowers & animsls.

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 14:13

That's them Juicy but they've upped their game and do some wonderful eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks. I've got 3 palettes and one is quite old (maybe 3 years) and the quality is shit but the 2 new ones are amazing! I also have a foundation which is lovely but very pale so I'm saving it for the winter.

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 14:16

I lie, I've actually got 5 of their eyeshadow palettes. These are my 2 big palettes which I ♥️!

BusterGonad re: I hate aqueous cream

You're probably buying the wrong one. Boots (and supermarkets) sella terrible cheap version, but you can get a much, much, better one over the counter at a large Boots store. You have to ask for it, and they will usually try to direct you to the area of the shop that sells the awful stuff, but I have to persist and ask for only the over the counter one. They look at you daggers and tell you it's 3 times the price, as though you've just asked for the Crown Jewels and aren't prepRed to pay for them! I once had a girl tell me I can't have it, so I had to resort to requesting to speak to her manager, who promptly gave it to me.

Don't know why they're like that!

JuicyCake · 28/08/2017 15:43

I've noticed that things like pure Witch Hazel are behind the counter now too...

Cakescakescakes · 28/08/2017 15:44

Urban Decay eye shadows are definitely worth the money for anyone looking for good colour pay off and blend ability.

Hulder · 28/08/2017 15:46

Aqueous cream is shit. It was never meant as a moisturiser, it was designed as a soap substitute and contains SLS which is an ezcema trigger so it actually dries your skin out.

Even if you aren't triggered by SLS, its moisturising content is minimal. It's no longer recommended.

pigletpie29 · 28/08/2017 16:36

L'Oréal low shampoo was hopeless. Greasy sticky mess afterwards!

pigletpie29 · 28/08/2017 16:37

Oh and I bought a mac eyeshadow once - it had absolutely no pigment, was so weird that i wonder if it was faulty. Had it in my bag for ages to take it back by never got round to it. So expensive too.

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 16:40

I don't get on with any eczema creams, they all contain a substance to fuse together oil and water (apparently, as told to me by a doctor) that triggers a reaction to it.

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 28/08/2017 16:51

Mainly perfumes with me!

Gucci bamboo headache inducing flowers

Jo Malone red currant and oak just smells like an expensive air freshener

Anyone wants to buy them get in touch!

BusterGonad · 28/08/2017 17:07

Oh I forgot about perfumes! I can't stand Estée Lauder Beautiful!

mintmagnummm · 28/08/2017 18:02

Aqueous cream (boots own one off the shelf) is the ONLY thing I can use to wash my lady bits! Blush

PerfumeIsAMessage · 28/08/2017 18:17

Jo Malone perfumes are all (IMO) emperor's new clothes in that no matter how nice they smell, (and some are lovely) they last about half an hour. She did a magnificent marketing job on herself when she started out that really paid off, the stark colour scheme, the simple descriptive names. But the product is all hype. Perfume Parlour JM dupes are fab though.

theaccidentaleconomist · 28/08/2017 19:53

Tigi Curls Rock-made my hair rock hard. It was literally like glue. No volume.

Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream-just did nothing for my hair. Boots Essentials Curl Creme worked much better.

Shu Uemura Silk Bloom Shampoo-neither repaired nor moisturised my hair and left it flat. On the other hand, their Cool Blonde Colour Lustre Balm is great for toning down brassy highlights and is an excellent moisturising masque.

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation-quickly disintegrated into patches on my oily nose and created dry patches everywhere else.

mintmagnummm · 29/08/2017 06:48

Thought of another....
Mac foundations and lipsticks. Foundations always broke me out and I tried a few diff ones and lipsticks made my lips look really dry and cracked!

hollyisalovelyname · 29/08/2017 07:31

Perfumeisamessage
I'm with you on Jo Malone perfumes.
To me Lime, Basil and Mandarin smells 'off'
Pomegranate Noir I loathe.
The packaging is lovely.
It's great marketing as you say.

MrsGabor · 29/08/2017 08:38

I used to love Aussie products, then they changed the formula and now they leave my hair feeling like straw.

Simple products make my skin itch and burn

Mizon cream that was raved about as a wonder for sensitive skin also burns

Chanel nail polish

Pixi glow tonic brought me out in spots

Deathraystare · 29/08/2017 09:21

Another one hating Aussie shampoo & conditioner. Phew, I thought it was just me!

Nope u r not alone!

Also Accessories brow pencil - so waxy, it would be better as an eyeliner pencil.

That Maybelline pink bottle mascara - did nothing for me. There are a few that actually seem to make my lashes shorter looking and straight but I cannot remember the others.

Clinique DDML

Two Chanel lipsticks but I have another that is really nice (the rest fade quickly)

Mac pro Longwear -the compact foundation also their primer in the black container

Is Regaine any good for thinning hair?
Also is anusol cream any good for undereye bags?

glitterysand · 02/09/2017 11:05

I'm so glad I read this thread, I've been using Aussie stuff for a while and my hair has felt rubbish. I thought it was me and my hair but now I know it's the shampoo I looked for a new one. So for all you others who have been wanting the hair that Aussie promises, I bought this.
http://www.boots.com/herbal-essences-bio-renew-argan-oil-shampoo-400ml-10232387?cmmmc=bmmmGoogle+Boots+PLAsAs--BAU---C=%28GB%3AWhoop%21%29+Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Beauty%28GB%3AWhoop%21%29+Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Beauty+%282%29&gclid=CjwKCAjwranNBRBhEiwASu908MgMzhuH4w05M5aNTaJHMzhF5LWhKftCZe-2Sm0bQglEbQDpnjWSzxoC8agQAvDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
I bought the shampoo and conditioner and it's lovely. It has made my hair feel really soft and swishy for the first time in ages Smile

Botanicbaby · 02/09/2017 11:40

wow late to the thread but would like to add Babyliss Big Hair. Definitely doesn't do it for me - I have fine hair.

OPI nailpolish - especially the large (normal) sized bottles, goes gloopy quickly, doesn't apply well for me and the lids are difficult to get off after a month or so. Rubbish. I now choose nail colour on whether I like the packaging and whether I can get the lid off, amongst other reasons.

gunsandbanjos · 02/09/2017 13:25

Dior lip tattoo, £25 of utter shit. Meant to be long lasting, disappeared after about 30 minutes.

Leicesterpiggott · 02/09/2017 13:27

Londonista, I'll take it all off your hands!! Some of it is in my favourites list! Sadly I'm not in London but will pay for postage and give you some extra cash with pleasure!!!
