How do some people manage to look so effortlessly cool?

Is there a secret to it or do you have to be born with some kind of special 'coolness' gene?

I'd love to be able to chuck on something vintage with a pair of Levi's and look cool, but instead I'd look like I had no decent clothes to wear and had just gone out in the first thing I grabbed off the ironing pile!

Is there anything I can do to make myself look a bit more edgy and cool?

But that's not always easy to pull off.

Being effortlessly cool is a bit like being effortlessly slim or effortlessly groomed, in that it takes an amazing amount of effort but you just don't mention it and leave others to assume. Sorry.

Cool people can have lovely messy hair non shiny hair.
If my hair is messy I just look like a mess.

Can anyone post pics for examples of what they think is cool. Because I don't know if I get it.

I'd say cool people don't aim for looking pretty, decorative or classic.

It's a more subversive attitude which is not about looking appropriate.

It's always money and being slim.

I honestly don't think it causes that much effort. I get this occasionally (and no, I don't expect anyone to believe me, lol,) and it's always when i haven't brushed my hair since 7am and I look like an Afghan hound who's just done flyball. I do always have foundation on but that's cos my face goes red. I think it's the combo of serious bedhead and clear looking skin. I never get it when my hair is up and tidy.

Hmm . . I know a number of well off & slim women who don't look cool. Well groomed and well dressed - yes- but not cool.

I think Gwen Stefani does the uber cool look for over 40s absolutely brilliantly. I don't know how she does it but I suspect it's good genes, money and some very subtle cosmetic work.

Not a popular opinion I'm sure, but to really pull off 'cool' you have to be good looking.

I think a lot of off duty models are cool ie tall, skinny, simple clothes like jeans, plain tight vest top, clean slightly scruffy hair, hardly any make up.

I was just looking at some photos of her and it does seem like she wears heels a lot. But in flats here she has an expensive bag, shades, a quirky jacket, colour matched shoes and obviously looks polished with make up and hair. I bet that's a lot of work and yet she looks casual.

Being a natural clothes horse, being slim, often helps. I'm not. I'm like you OP I just don't look cool, never have. It seems my love of 🍷 and 🍫 defeats me. Ah well.

Scabby knees, chipped nails, mosquito bites. Scuffed shoes, smudged mascara but good posture and clean. Basically anything that looks like someone lives a bit. Doesn't care too much. And it has to be genuine rather than studied

I have loved Gwen since forever so she will always be cool to me! I share a love for the signature red lips look.

My hair is always a mess and my clothes are covered in toddler grime with scuffed shoes. Maybe I'm cooler than I think not really I'm just a mess.
