Dh wants to buy me a gift and I'm not sure what I want . I quite like the mulberry Freya . I have an Antony already and I like it . I fancy something a bit more handbaggy.

Try John Lewis, House of Fraserburgh and Selfridges they're sometimes a bit cheaper 😁

talkingtoclarry · 26/12/2016 18:20

I have Barnaby and Euston, don't feel grown up enough to rock a Bayswater even though I secretly covet one!

SuperFlyHigh · 26/12/2016 18:42

laras I agree with you!

I have a couple of the old Mulberry bags and prefer them to the new, even then I also prefer Celine (not got one though) if I were to buy one now. I've got quite a few from Balenciaga, Fendi baguette etc...

My aunt also has a few old Mulberry bags (as well as countless other designer bags mostly bought when she was on business a lot in Milan and Venice) and prefers them to the newer ones, in fact about 4-5 years ago when she attended DB's wedding in Somerset at Kilver Court (where they have a mulberry outlet/factory shop) she wasn't impressed with the discounts or designs!

There are also a lot of really nice new bags in Liberty bag dept by up and coming designers. I think I'd choose a Philip Lim one now.

MassDebate · 27/12/2016 17:31

I'd get the Anya Hindmarch maxi zip satchel, I love her bags.
Going against the grain but I think Mulberry is a bit ubiquitous these days ( how given the prices I don't know although I suspect there are lots of fakes around). I'd want something that feels a bit more exclusive if it were my money. (Also I have a Bayswater and don't find it very practical tbh.)

Ifonlyiweretaller · 27/12/2016 18:05

I have a number of Mulberry's and my fave is the Del Rey . To be honest I too find the Bayswater quite formal, impractical and heavy, the flap never closes neatly and I constantly end up having to 'un-tuck it'. Had to buy an insert too as everything fell in a heap at the bottom. Oh, and the only place you can put your phone is not the right shape! My current fave is a Prada tote that I bought from Secret Sales when thy had an extra 20% off, so it came in at just over £1k. A lovely denim blue that seems to go with everything.

SherlockPotter · 27/12/2016 18:13

A Mulberry Alexa satchel or Bayswater tote!

MrsMozart · 27/12/2016 18:33

I like a zip, otherwise I tend to lose everything when it falls over...

Quite like Mulberry, though perversely not keen on their zips, though I've not seen one I've been gaga about for a while.

What about the Louis Vuitton Legendary Neverfull?

MrsMozart · 27/12/2016 18:40

Ooh, Mulberry Camden Hobo bag. A rather nice purple/blue as well as brown option.

Christinayangstwistedsista · 27/12/2016 18:43

Ohhhh I love bags, I hope you get one that you love....enjoy!

Longislandicetee · 27/12/2016 18:58

I would go with the Freya OP if I were you OP. Lara is right, you need to think about your lifestyle and the Bayswater is just (in my opinion) is semi formal to formal and...heavy!!

AmberNectarine · 27/12/2016 21:51

Givenchy Antigona
LV Neverfull
Saint Laurent Kate
Gucci Marmont
Celina Trio

AmberNectarine · 27/12/2016 21:53

Ooh, a lovely 'decent' handbag for £10. Made by infants in Bangladesh. Now there's an idea.

FFS.

imjessie · 27/12/2016 21:55

I love that you have a list nectarine .! Still haven't got to the shops 🙄

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 27/12/2016 21:58

I hardly use my Bayswater. I find it heavy and annoying.

If a hobo is your jam (they done suit me) you won't go far wrong with a Mulberry. Their CS is excellent.

Not relevant, but it IS possible to buy luxury bags, donate to charity AND take your kids on holiday. The assumption that the OP's kids are going without because her DH wants to buy her a handbag (and it really does sound like she deserves a lovely gift) is really quite offensive, actually.

AmberNectarine · 27/12/2016 22:00

jessie, I ALWAYS have a list!

I think the next to be ticked off will be a Neverfull as I could do with a throw everything in tote Smile

Hope you make it soon and throughly enjoy the experience. I always try and buy special bags in person so that I can enjoy the swingy cardboard carrier bad moment!

Dancergirl · 27/12/2016 22:22

cointreau I also got that Coach bag in tan in last summer's sale for the same price. I agree, it's a lovely quality bag, hope you enjoy it.

OP, how are you doing with your search? Personally I love Mulberry. They are expensive but not as much as some other brands but I love their designs. Great quality too.

FaintlyHopeful · 27/12/2016 22:33

I second the anya hindmarch cross body satchel. Really understated and incredibly tactile. I use it almost daily and it was worth every penny.

FaintlyHopeful · 27/12/2016 22:36

Has anyone tried the mulberry outlet? Was wondering if it's worth a detour as I'll be down that way and looking for a work sized bag

WingsClipped · 27/12/2016 23:00

All these posts saying spend it on a flipping holiday when OP is on S&B, asking for advice ON A BAG. Hmm

imjessie if you like Mulberry then go for it but from experience their leathers aren't as hardwearing as a few of the higher end designers. I have a few Louis Vuittons which have been used all the time and the leather has just gotten nicer and aged well. My one Mulberry (bayswater clutch) had a crack in the leather strap within a year (which I took back and got replaced but was charged for) and the rest of the leather on the main bag then started cracking and peeling (!). As much as I want a Mulberry Lily, I've held off as I don't think their quality will last a lifetime. On the other hand I've got LVs which are 20 years + and passed on to me from my mother in law. Mulberrys are nice but not a lifetime investment like Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Something to think about if you are spending the money anyway.

Superjaggy · 27/12/2016 23:07

Have you decided yet, OP? Grin

Another vote here for Mulberry. I have a Daria satchel which I use every day, it's quite old but the leather is beautiful. Currently coveting a Bayswater in oxblood. Or any of the current season porcelain blue bags with oxblood lining - beautiful!

Hope you find something you love. And if not, you can always sell it for pretty much what you paid, and choose another Wink.

mscongeniality · 27/12/2016 23:23

I second the Givenchy Antigona but I'm biased because I love mine Grin
I've never bought a Mulberry Bag but if you like them go for it!

Longislandicetee · 28/12/2016 04:25

Oh I wouldn't say an Antigona! I love mine but it's quite structured so it doesn't feel like a bag I can use casually. I actually really want a Louis Vuitton Neverfull. I bought my sister one and she just puts valuables in the inner purse and holds it tight. In hindsight I wish I had bought her the epi leather one (out of your budget OP) which is what she would have really wanted, instead of the classic one with the squares (within your budget OP).

Amber I decided to simply ignore each of the "buy a bag for a tenner and go on holiday" posters, as it was Christmas.Xmas Grin

veryveryquietly · 28/12/2016 07:24

Proenza Schouler is so so so very lovely. Or Mansur Gavriel?

Bobochic · 28/12/2016 09:23

A Goyard Saint Louis tote is super practical and goes with everything.

Aderyn2016 · 28/12/2016 11:32

I have a mulberry mini kite in oxblood, which is lovely - not too heavy or formal. I don't think they make them now but iirc there were some available in the sale.
