Do people still wear dressing gowns?

Do you wear a dressing gown? I feel like people don't anymore. I was thinking about what I wanted for Christmas. I have an old one on the back of my door but it isn't a nice colour or cosy so I don't wear it but would I wear one if I had one?

Not any more.
Now I use a sweatshirt in the winter.
Extra t shirt in summer.

Despite being washed all the time, my d gown ended up smelling so badly of dog I had to chuck it out and never replaced it.

DS (10) loves his one tho.

BeaLola · 24/11/2016 00:41

Yes.

I have a waffle one from the White Company that I put on after shower whilst doing DS breakfast.

I have a lovely soft towelling one that is too big for me but is lovely and comfy that I put on if the waffle one is in wash or if it's really really cold or if I'm poorly.

A rich chocolate brown one - also from white company many years ago and is velour - don't wear much as two above are current favourites. All hung in ensuite.

When I come home from work and am not going out again I change into pj pants from M&S with different tops / comfy jumpers on until it us time for bed when I wear just a smile.

Anybody else lusting after a cashmere dressing gown for Christmas? Hobbs has a soft grey one, anybody any experience with them?

SquedgieBeckenheim · 24/11/2016 06:39

I have one, it's nearly 2 decades old and I want to replace it but can't bring myself too. It's cosy but old.
DH has one but rarely uses it. DD (2) loves her "fuffy gowm"

Pluto30 · 24/11/2016 06:40

Just bought one from Bed, Bath & Table today. Grin

I have three now: two winter and one summer.

I love them. Wouldn't be without them or slippers.

myfriendnigel · 24/11/2016 06:48

I do, but only in winter really when I get in, take coat off, put dressing gown on over clothes.
My greatest revelation lately however has been a pair of ugg style (fake) sheepskin slippers from Peacocks. Bought on a whim as the puppy has chewed my old ones.Literally the comfiest thing I've ever had on me Smile

AwaywiththePixies27 · 24/11/2016 06:50

Yep! Especially in my street. They wear them all the time.

At my DCs old school one mum used to do drop off and pick up in their PJ's and dressing gown. Always amused me as she always had her hair and make-up done immaculately.

But yes treat yourself OP. They've got some lovely Christmas pj boxes and dressing gowns out at the moment. Do you ladies that have them find you safe on the heating because they keep you warm enough. Asking because we live in a very old house and it eats the heating.

Chrisinthemorning · 24/11/2016 06:52

Yes I wear it loads. It's a nice bright pink, very soft fleece.

bigbuttons · 24/11/2016 06:54

I've has one in the colder months. Couldn't be without it.

Artandco · 24/11/2016 07:03

No. don't own dressing gown, also don't own any pyjamas

SailingThroughTime · 24/11/2016 07:06

I have 4 (summer, winter, hotel for sex, scruffy for dyeing my eyebrows) and a 1940s housecoat (dinner lady overall type)

And don't even get me started on aprons Smile

I have 4😂
For different seasons and occasions.
Two short cotton ones, a gorgeous fluffy one and a silk one .

AndShesGone · 24/11/2016 07:18

Like Sailing I have 4.

  1. Scruffy zip up old lady one for letting the dog out and doing dirty things in the morning - gets most wear, have it on right now. Ugliest dressing gown in universe.
  1. Brora Liberty patterned light wool one - for evenings in spring/autumn
  1. Silk antique kimono for over silk nightdresses for summer baths in the evenings with hopefully sex after
  1. My brand new (not worn it yet) navy cashmere dressing gown - going to be worn once we've moved house. At the moment just looking at it longingly. (Bought from eBay so 'only' 70 quid instead of the 250 it once was). I will be wearing this after evening baths in my new claw footed Victorian bath.

So 3 of them are for when I'm clean and 1 is for the mornings when I'm dirty.

In my new place I'm looking forward to more evening baths.

MardAsSnails · 24/11/2016 07:18

I have my big fluffy men's one, my lightweight one for nipping into the garden in, (we live in the sun, so fluffy one for in ac and light one for chucking on over jamas if the dog is in the garden) and my fancy one I bought from Raffles Singapore that I wear when we have house guests.

Oblomov16 · 24/11/2016 07:21

Every day. I love mine. It's what my MN name is based on.

SarahMacey44 · 24/11/2016 07:22

Ohhh definitely! I have two dressing gowns. One is my fave color which is light gray it's a little silky and the other one is also fluffy cream colored white. I wear them every now and then especially when I'm just at home and feel cold. Nothing beats wearing it.

Bluntness100 · 24/11/2016 07:27

No, I actually bought one about six months ago, as when I'm at friends houses in the morning they are in their dressing gowns, and I though, hmm I never wear one, looks comfy, but still I don't wear it and am thinking of binning it.

In winter I shove leggings and a jumper on when I get up, in summer shorts and vest. I just can't get into the habit of wearing one. My husband also doesn't own one.

Fockers · 24/11/2016 07:30

I have a towelling type one I wear all the time.
Id love a more glam one though - floor length & swishy so I could float around...you don't see those anymore though

ElizaDontlittle · 24/11/2016 07:31

Saves putting the heating on so much! I use mine over pyjamas or clothes if it's cold but we're going to bed pretty soon, or in the day when it's cold. A hood ie is fine but doesn't keep your legs warm.

perfectlybroken · 24/11/2016 07:31

Most definitely, It's 5 years old and still going strong.

SquirrelPaws · 24/11/2016 07:39

Every morning, over my nightie until I have a shower and get dressed, and every evening while I'm reading in bed. I have two fleecy ones, which I alternate, and a light cotton summer one. I like to be wrapped up.

oleoleoleole · 24/11/2016 08:23

I do, I have two. Short and long. I wear pj's and the short one a lot!

Peacelover1975 · 24/11/2016 08:24

Ilove my pink hooded dressing gown and wear it as soon as i get up to feed my DS, if I'm cold, upset and loved popping my little one in there for skin to skin when he was newborn. It's my comfort blanket Smile
