Do people still wear dressing gowns?

Do you wear a dressing gown? I feel like people don't anymore. I was thinking about what I wanted for Christmas. I have an old one on the back of my door but it isn't a nice colour or cosy so I don't wear it but would I wear one if I had one?

Have just pulled mine on. It has been on the radiator after a wash and is now fleecy soft and fluffy. Dh is only home from work now and is in his already. I also have a Liberty kimono made by DM , years ago which I bring with me on hols and wear in the summer. Smile

AeFondCrisp · 25/11/2016 23:00

I have 6 or 7 that I can think of, may be a few more lurking. I put one on over everything, even if fully dressed because my house is flipping freezing.

I love calling it a housecoat because it reminds me of my lovely Gran.

I am not down with putting on with wet skin though. That is just all kinds of wrong. I know the terry ones are supposed to be like a big towel you wear after a shower or whatever but... no. Just no. I love my dressing gowns but they never touch my bare skin don't start me on people who sleep naked

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/11/2016 03:05

I love mine - it came from M&S a couple of years ago, very soft and cosy and actually LONG enough. I had bought an identical one for a friend, who was delighted with it, and decdied to treat myself, too.
I had complained to M&S years ago that their dressing gowns were never long enough for the likes of me - and I'm not exactly a giant, 5 foot 7, and they said they couldn't make them longer because of (effing) health and safety - people might trip over them. I said, make them in different lengths, then!

I dare say many more people said the same, hence no draughty six inch gap any more. I don't know whether they're still doing the same ones, but they were brilliant for about £25.

AugustRose · 26/11/2016 10:27

We all wear them in our house, it's probably the one thing I couldn't live without! Because I am quite short they are always long and snuggly.

AeFondCrisp my mam calls them housecoats and the DCs think it's really funny.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 26/11/2016 12:23

I have a light cotton one for summer and a thicker fleecy one for winter.
I don't wear them as much as I used to though. I think because if I'm at home and cold, I'm usually in bed or on the sofa where I have blankets instead.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/11/2016 12:29

Yep, I have a summer and a winter one. I also have a bed jacket which is great for sitting up reading or having a drink when it's really cold.

JunebabyT · 26/11/2016 12:30

I don't have one and never worn them much in the past but tempted when I see really soft furry ones in the shops. DP is always in his now that it's colder!

TurkeyTwazzock · 26/11/2016 14:01

I have an almost ankle-length fluffy hooded one from Next about 3 years ago and it is divine. I am wearing it now Grin.

topcat2014 · 26/11/2016 16:12

I sometimes worry they are a bit ageing - when I am having a bit of a mid life wobble. Having said that, I do like my black Primark or could have been Aldi one.

Winemamma · 26/11/2016 16:21

I have 3 Grin

Ragwort · 26/11/2016 16:22

I only wear it if I have had a bath and then want to relax on the sofa before going to bed Grin - I find it a bit restrictive in the mornings when I am getting ready for work, doing housework etc so I prefer a faded old cardigan with my pjs that I have had for decades years - so comfy and I can still race around in it without getting too hot. But for lazing on the sofa in front of TV a dressing gown is nice.

ClassmateHB · 26/11/2016 16:23

I love mine. Only one out of the kids and DP who wears one. I have a big disgusting looking fluffy one from primark for winter (was bought for me when I was four stone heavier and six months pregnant so it literally wraps round me) and a thinner grey cotton one for summer/spring/autumn. Wear it every morning and evening.

Error404usernamenotfound · 27/11/2016 07:13

I have two fluffy ones and a thin, cotton summer one. I put mine on when I get up in the morning, especially if I'm not showering straight away, as I always feel cold just in pjs. Occasionally wear it in the evenings, but usually just put on a comfy jumper.

Couldn't be without them!

gerbo · 27/11/2016 08:41

Probably the best gift I was given when pregnant was from my DM. It is an ankle length, mint green (!) fluffy dressing gown which is two sizes too big. She deliberately bought big for extra coverage. I wear it every morning and evening. As soon as the kids get in the bath at 630, I'm in PJs and dressing gown.

DH and I giggle at the total unattractiveness of it, but I LOVE it. How else do you stay warm when getting up and the house is cold?!

It really came into its own for night feeds in winter.....My colleague is soon to be married and prob get pregnant. I told her the must have item is a massive dressing gown for those 11, 1am, 3am, 5am feeds so you and baby are snuggly, even in the depths of winter. She laughed, but it's so true!

reup · 27/11/2016 08:47

I love mine. It's very soft and the dog makes a bee line to sit on me if I have it in as he's all about the comfort. I also have a towelling robe that serves a totally different purpose.

I have also loved them and as a teenager my mum once accused me of being like the woman in this film because I would wear one all day if I could.

This film is so fantastically over the top - this poor woman tries to be a perfect 50s housewife but always messes up and her husband and son shun her for it. Quite unbelievable really.

Wearing a mint green fluffy one today. I have loads of dressing gowns. Mostly fluffy and a few cotton or silk Kimono types too. I like to swap between them every few weeks depending on what colour they are and how warm it is. I usually shove my winter duvet coat over one and pull on my short wellies when I go to feed and clean out the chickens.

I always have nice dressing gowns available for guests hanging on the back of their bedroom door too.

I like onesies too. Classy eh?

Hulababy · 27/11/2016 09:29

I have a lovely soft one. I wear it after a bath, if I have one in an evening. Also on Christmas or birthday mornings.
But I don't wear one daily. House is already very warm so just PJs is enough generally.

Statelychangers · 27/11/2016 11:52

I tend to only put mine on for minor emergencies that require me to jump out of the bath/shower. Otherwise I wear a cashmere jumper over a vest top and pj bottoms - warm and comfortable with no flapping fabric and ties to become undone.

Arcadia · 14/12/2016 20:49

Update! I spotted this in shop and it is quite short but super soft and cuddly - DP bought it for me for Christmas today! www.whitestuff.com/mobile/womens/nightwear/grey-winter-nights-heart-robe/
