I seriously need some inspiration for my winter wardrobe!

My best recent purchase is this dress from topshop (even though I'm probably too old to be shopping there!). Its very flattering on my short, pear-shaped figure and looks great with black tights and boots. Great for any occasion.

I've got the Ampersand t-shirt. I've worn it twice and it's got a tiny hole on the front already.

Very, very thin cotton.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/10/2016 14:49

If it was a tenner, I might have bought it!

FrustratedFrugal · 22/10/2016 15:38

This t shirt, Mango, 6.99. Soft and very flattering.

I have just sent back four Hush dresses - they were all ill fitting and made me look fatter than I am (I am size 10 on top and size 12 on hips). One of the dresses was the 'easy ' dress. I liked it but I looked like Jo Brand in it. I am a fan of Jo Brand but I don't want to dress like her. I think unless you are waif thin, many most Hush dresses are unflattering. The National Express song was inspired by my bum in the Tara dress. I liked the idea of the Leia dress but I looked an overweight middle aged woman child.

What annoys me is the most are the reviews describing the quality of the clothes as 'thick', 'heavy', [hangs nicely', which suck me in each time and inevitably lead to being disappointed to open the box to discover lightweight jersey material which emphasises my bra lines and every bump and lump. I'd love to try the Tina dress but I know already that unless it is on the Hush size 6 model who is wearing size 8.10, I will look squat and dumpy.

Ive got a 12-14 top and a 10 bottom and the fit of the tara is good on me
Broad shoulders and narrow hips

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 22/10/2016 16:01

Love this Hobbs coat but I don't need a coat. Hmmnnn

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/10/2016 16:02

Tara is one of the ones I tried on. I'm a 12 (norky and narrow shouldered) and tried a medium. The skirt bit was fine but the top bit was really unflattering. I'm v short and there just seemed to be far more fabric than there was body to fit it. It managed to look both too big and too tight simultaneously.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/10/2016 16:03

I did wonder about trying the extra long t-shirt, sized up, to see if it might work as a loose-ish dress.

Florathefern · 22/10/2016 16:07

I have wider hips than shoulders too and the Tara dress looked very 1980s on me. It was tight across my bum when I moved and too baggy on top. I tried both small and medium. I am also short and found the skirt part of the dress very short when I walked.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 22/10/2016 16:14

Ooooo these boots are so beautiful.

...I need to Step Away from the Hobbs website

Just ordered these. Probably not the most practical of buys, but I like them.

Forgot I ordered this the other day too - hasn't come yet so not sure if it's a keeper

JuanPotatoTwo · 22/10/2016 17:16

DD just came in and saw the link to my coat. She said "that's rank. Don't buy it". Oops, too late :)

AmberNectarine · 22/10/2016 20:33

Honourable mention for this shirt which I actually bought in Feb, but they have brought back. Have worn LOADS. Is my go to 'I don't know what to wear' item.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 22/10/2016 22:16

Which shirt Amber? So many lovely ones there.

loulou61 · 26/10/2016 06:08

I just celebrated my 40th Birthday and I wanted to have a statement outfit so I bought myself a pleather black skirt from m&S and I wore it with a deep purple polarneck and a big chunky statement necklace. And I felt amazing. Ive put on a little weight since I've been on chemo and I wanted to feel amazing and it really did the trick. Pleather skirts are the way forward..

MissWillaCather · 26/10/2016 20:23

IJustLostTheGame Am so excited! Went to an actual Zara shop today and I've got the furry coat!! In a small.

And dd is jealous 😊

Thank you for posting it, am just so pleased.

Plus I may have managed to pick up another couple of things....😳

JohnCheese · 26/10/2016 22:30

Was in Zara and Warehouse yesterday.
Zara made me sigh. It just seemed a jumble of tatt, and I say that as an avid Zara lover. Maybe I'm getting old??

Tried this jacket. V nice. Handy for work.
Also tried this dress, had high hopes, thinking it would be perfect for xmas things but it wasn't great on me. Tried on a few other bits, began to lose the will and left.

Then went to Warehouse, should've gone there first, some nice stuff. Tried on this suede skirt, loved it. V flattering on. A definite maybe.

Nowt else to report. Leave Zara last on your shopping list. Seriously. Takes far too much energy.

SueTrinder · 30/10/2016 17:12

Got this bag today in the sale, been looking for a cross body bag for a while and couldn't resist the bargain. Looking at the website reminds me yet again though that I really wish that websites would include a photo of a model carrying a cross body bag and wearing it... across their body.

SuperFlyHigh · 30/10/2016 17:36

Oh dear JohnCheese I like that black suede skirt.

IBelieveTheEarth those boots will deffo go into a sale! I used to work opposite Elys in Wimbledon my gosh I picked up some bargains and was never sure to be flattered or not when on reserving yet another sale pair of shoes the shoe department assistant turned to me and said "no problem Madam, you're one of our best customers" and I swear did a little Wink. I left that job not long afterwards and I'm sure they're mourning my lack of custom! Grin

Floisme · 30/10/2016 17:49

Not had much to report lately as I'd spent all my money at the opticians and the dentist. But I have finally found my 60th birthday present (from me to me) - not a grey leather biker in the end, in fact arguably the polar opposite: a Harris tweed jacket! I can't find a link but it's in beautiful, muted, smoky, flecky colours and very, very fitted so it gives me a great silhouette.

And guess what, no-one can tell me I'm too old to wear one Wink

I love it to pieces. I'm a bit bored with my current style so I'm working out a new look that's kind of Miss Marple meets Keith Richards. This should help me pull it all together.

AmberNectarine · 30/10/2016 19:27

Super, you must be from my neck of the woods - I love Elys (they have an in store White Company now!)

SuperFlyHigh · 30/10/2016 19:33

Amber I actually live SE rather than SW but worked in Wimbledon for 5 and a half years!

I actually liked going on bus (couldn't drive as no parking) to Kingston after work on Thursdays, now they have an &otherstories which they never had!

I do wonder about Centre Court, Zara et al would make a killing there, I suppose they need more floors for that to work.

Now I am in the hell hole that is Hammersmith and there is nothing there and too far to go in lunch break to White city Westfield. And there's no &other stories there either!

I do love Elys it serves the people of Wimbledon very well and did well out of me. I recall the woman who left the job who I replaced (she retired) telling me "you'll spend a lot of your salary in Elys" I was a bit Hmm at this but it was true!!!

AgathaMystery · 30/10/2016 21:35

I can't believe Elys is still there! I haven't set foot in it since 1988 but still love it in a nostalgic way. They had the BEST haberdashery ever.

Anyway... I'm kind of relieved that the Tara dress also looks too big and too tight on others. Hmm I thought I was being a weirdo not loving it and so badly wanted to be in the MN Tara gang. It's going back.
