Can we have a thread about recent clothing purchases that we love?

I seriously need some inspiration for my winter wardrobe!

My best recent purchase is this dress from topshop (even though I'm probably too old to be shopping there!). Its very flattering on my short, pear-shaped figure and looks great with black tights and boots. Great for any occasion.

Tbh I really don't like how they've styled it there (and at my age I'd look ridiculous!) but it's just so beautiful in real life. Looks way more expensive than it is (and it's 70 odd quid!) It's so soft... sigh

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/10/2016 21:15

Flora Mine are lightweight and really comfortable. They look good with the several pairs of heeled ankle boots I have, so will be good for casual pub nights etc. I would like to try to find a way to wear them with flats for schlepping around in too though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/10/2016 21:16

And I think they'll potentially work well in Spring/Summer with white Cons, or flat sandals.

MidSqueak · 19/10/2016 21:19

Remus - can you link to your M&S cargos - I can't find a sodding thing on their useless website. Ta.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/10/2016 21:24

Linked earlier in the thread. They are not v exciting/stylish but they are so soft and comfortable!

wiltingfast · 19/10/2016 21:50

Black nikes Remus? Like these or these?

MidSqueak · 19/10/2016 21:53

Thanks Remus - found them!

Leather midi skirt - ASOS
Space print shirt - &OS

taybert · 20/10/2016 08:28

carrie74 I was looking at that jumper but wasn't sure about the shape/sizing, any chance you could post a photo of you wearing it so I can get a better idea of what it looks like on someone who isn't a Cos model?
I've read that back and realise I might sound like some kind of Internet knitwear perv. I'm not. Honest.

IJustLostTheGame · 20/10/2016 10:27

MissWillaCather
I'm a 10 to 12 on top and I bought a small, and there's still plenty of room. I think a medium would be around a generous 12 to 14

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 20/10/2016 10:31

MissWilla that dress is perfect for my hourglassy DD (and me if Icould swap my head for hers!). Sold out in a 12 though and I could kick myself because it was showing as low stock last night but I didn't complete! < gnash >

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 20/10/2016 11:09

Have got on hold at store - phew!

MissWillaCather · 20/10/2016 12:17

IJust aargh, ordered in large owing to previous Zara experience, and now sold out in medium- have registered for email updates.

Shotgun I am old, so wear the dress with tights and my seventies style tan ankle boots, not trainers and bare legs - don't think looks mutton, and have had lots of compliments.

YvaineStormhold · 20/10/2016 13:48

The Bella Freud jumper is on!
I found a black a-line skirt in the wardrobe, and I'm wearing it with black opaques and black leather slip on trainers, with a jersey biker jacket.

Looks ok, I think. 18 year old DS approved, anyway Smile

Thank you for your help!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 20/10/2016 13:48

Maybe i'll try it on then MissWilla. I suppose I've only become conscious of avoiding looking muttonous in recent years (am 53), and it seems to have co-incided with my DD starting to wear 'womanly' clothes (she's nearly 19), and me not wanting to look as if I'm copying her or trying to look more like her sister than her mum iyswim.
Wrt me 'copying' her though, it has to be said that she prefers me to shop with her than friends as 'you always find the best things Mum' Grin < proud >
Sorry, back to the clobber!

taybert · 20/10/2016 16:18

I realise I'm cheating in that I've not actually bought anything. Don't think I'll be getting the cos shirt dress since it's nearly at the model's knee and she's 181cm! It'd keep my ankles warm anyway.
Keep going back to this though silk shirt to wear with skinnies but also wondered if it might work with a mini skirt and tights.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/10/2016 18:26

Wilting - I've got black Nikes but find they only really work with skinnies or with bare legs and a dress/skirt for me. I feel/look clumsy/scruffy in them with any other trousers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/10/2016 18:26

BF jumper outfit sounds brilliant.

RebelandaStunner · 20/10/2016 18:45

www.riverisland.com/women/shoes--boots/boots/khaki-block-heel-ankle-boots-686619

These are my most recent purchase.
They fit my skinny ankles well and I love the colour. These will be my everyday/shopping/meeting a friend for coffee boots. So much choice in River Island for boots this year, most impressed, I may have to return.

Laska5772 · 20/10/2016 18:50

I love my Burgundy Hush Marina skirt

If anyone wants a 14 I've just sent one back ( as after waiting for months for it to come back in stock , I ended up taking the 12 after all).

I also have the Lucie jumper in Peach - they look great together!

Florathefern · 20/10/2016 20:09

Laska I have just returned mine today. I tried it with navy and grey and I felt drab and mumsy and i looked as far from the model as one could look!

I tried with black tights (I felt like I was in a religious order!). Bare tights not much better.

I have navy biker boots with a wine strap part and thought I'd be the coolest mum around :-). Instead I looked like I was going off to herd cows :-(

What else are you planning to wear with yours?

Laska5772 · 20/10/2016 20:17

Hi Flora I have some black lace up boots (a bit Victorian style) with a small heel and I think they look pretty good with it.. I have also tried it with navy loafers..

TBH I havent worn it out of the house yet though .. ( I did LOL about the cow herding..)

Florathefern · 20/10/2016 20:25

I liked mine and I reluctantly returned it as I couldn't make it work.

I'd love to know what other tops/tights you will wear.

Peachy tones make me look like I'm dead. I tried camel too but I looked dumpy in it. I had hoped to wear high tan boots in colder weather but they really would look like wellies :-(

Laska5772 · 20/10/2016 20:40

I ordered the Boden relaxed cashmere v neck jumper in navy which I think also looks quite good with it , but I'm not keeping that , because I think its really expensive for what it is (and I got 25% discount on that) . - Am thinking of trying Woolovers or John lewis for a cheaper version ) .. Otherwise so far I have a sleeveless cowl neck top in black ( which is nice for more evening things with heels and thin tights) , and a sloppy-joe black thin boat neck jersey.. . So yes I am going for the baggy look with it .. I looked dreadful in the black sweatshirt Hush styled it with ..

so far I have tried it with navy and black opaques ..
