I apologise for posting a link to a bitchy DM article, but it's a slow work day. And they must be freezing!

I am ashamed of some of these opinions. There will have been hundreds of beautiful women there looking full of class but the DM does this every year and comments like this are the reason why they continue to do so.

Nettletheelf · 08/04/2016 20:12

Just looked at today's photos. The girl in the short red dress pretending to drink champagne straight out of the bottle, and drinking a can of cocktail in another shot, is so obviously taking the . I think I might love her.

Some of the outfits are bloody fantastic.

WilburIsSomePig · 08/04/2016 20:41

Can't see the harm in some people frowning on some of these pics though.

Frown all you like. I just don't see the need for some people to be so bitchy about it. It's just unkind but, meh .... knock yourself out if it makes you feel good.

Larastheme · 08/04/2016 21:07

'At some point in the last 50 years, people have forgotten how to dress.'

Totally agree with this, too,

There is a time and place for everything, why would anyone want to go to the races in a bridesmaid dress,or a bodycon mini dress?

I don't mean that everyone should dress demurely and bland, , love what mitzy have uploaded, judy looks fab!

Jaimx86 · 08/04/2016 21:30

Whirls, not frowing about people getting their butts and pants out at a public (family) event? How?!

Jaimx86 · 08/04/2016 21:31

*Wilburls

lemonade30 · 08/04/2016 21:53

By musing upon loftier concerns dear Jaimx.

Or, you know just not feeling the need to disapprove of the behaviour of others at events which you didn't attend and therefore are not of your concern.

Jaimx86 · 08/04/2016 21:56

maybe people like that put people off attending?

lemonade30 · 08/04/2016 22:00

If you (and your ilk) have been dissuaded then I'd say they're providing a public service.

MurphysGang · 08/04/2016 22:04

I'm a National Hunt widow, my husband is a 'gentleman rider' and has ridden at the Grand National meeting several times. The first time I went I thought that the outfits we see in the press would be in the minority but was surprised to see they aren't. The DM is shameful to print photographs in such a way of women. On the issue of men's dress, there are many there committing fashion crimes, believe me!

This week has been cold and windy at Aintree, I was surprised just how cold (but then I'm sure in comparison, I'm a weak southerner as I'm always cold!) when I arrived. They must have strong constitutions as I couldn't handle it and am always wearing more than most. I also wonder are these clothes you can only buy in Liverpool as I've never seen many of them anywhere else? They seem to love 60s and 70s style references. I think it's their equivalent of going to Royal Ascot or Glorious Goodwood, so they really want to dress up.

I do love the meeting, they are the friendliest people and create a lovely atmosphere. It's also much better laid out and less stressful than the Festival meeting. The only one to top it for fun is Punchestown, that's an awful lot of fun..

RudeElf · 08/04/2016 22:10

We irish know how to have fun Wink

Mrskeats · 08/04/2016 22:10

Wow some incredibly bitchy comments considering this is supposed to be a supportive to women site
How can anyone take anything the mail says seriously? They deliberately show the event in the worst way possible every single year.
I have seen some incredibly stylish women there and the mail probably think women should be at home getting their husbands tea
Am sadly not surprised at some of the snobbish comments on here
Read a broadsheet

Jaimx86 · 08/04/2016 22:13

Lemomade, I want referring to the general ladies that were nastily shot at their worst angle/time, but people exposing themselves. If it was a park, sort play other area with children would you still want to see a man with his trousers down?
Sounds like you would.

Jaimx86 · 08/04/2016 22:13

*wasn't

MurphysGang · 08/04/2016 22:18

RudeElf, you do indeed! I can't wait for the meeting in May.

I also love racing in France, different more relaxed but elegant (of course!) atmosphere and a guaranteed amazing lunch, even at small countryside tracks. Racing in Deauville or at the Arc, truly lovely! As a very frequent race goer, I'd love someone to tackle racecourse catering as it's normally horrific, but that's another issue!

leccybill · 08/04/2016 22:21

I'm proud of Liverpool's answer to the DM's disgusting shaming of women today. Lots of brilliant highlights in the Liverpool Echo, Scouse/Sassy Bird's Circle of Fab, my Facebook is full of people complimenting outfits they saw in the press.
Yes, scousers do make some crazy fashion choices, a sort of 'catwalk on speed' look, if you like, but the city exudes warmth and friendliness and I bet everyone who went to Aintree had a ball today.

PirateSmile · 08/04/2016 22:28

Well said leccybill
There are plenty of very well dressed ladies in the photographs and everybody looks like they're having a great time.

In one of the photos, there are two women who are not the youngest, not the slimmest and not the most affluent but they have made a terrific effort to keep to the Chanel inspired brief and they are smiling ear to ear. They look fantastic and I hope they had a wonderful day out.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/04/2016 22:43

Fat, sick and poor

I think that's an excellent comment. The skin tone, cellulite, the obesity, the more garish (mostly cheaper fibre and unstructured) clothes.

I do not under any circumstances criticise the women by looking like this (indeed they look just like me but I'm more overweight) and I think the Daily Mails a revolting mysoginistic rag.

Instead I'm thinking about it from a socio economic or social history viewpoint. That is how some of the lower socio economic groups dress. That is what their skin and teeth look like. There are already studies saying we have more malnutrition than we did 30 years ago.

It would be really interesting to compare photos to another event attended by the very wealthy.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/04/2016 22:44

The massive amounts of sugar in our diet is totally making our skin look like that

PirateSmile · 08/04/2016 22:48

The truth is that alcohol doesn't help either.

Mrskeats · 08/04/2016 23:28

I have similar leccybill (waves to fellow scouser)
I'm not sure poor people can drop £300 quid on shoes either

BlenheimBouquet · 08/04/2016 23:39

Wow, the woman in the dark blue jumpsuit has an absolutely killer figure!

You'd be paranoid about photos wouldn't you? I mean, I wouldn't dare sit down in case a photographer snapped me mid-blink and pronounced me paralytic.

I'm not too worried about the ladies in the photos though I must say. I live in the area and believe me, it would be the height of excitement to most of these people to get their picture in the DM. Even if they had their knickers showing. You can see that anyway in the way most of them are posed. They love it.

Mrskeats · 08/04/2016 23:43

Yes they all look so sick and poor Hmm

Tate15 · 08/04/2016 23:52

Mrskeats, the first pic in the gallery is a lovely young woman who has lessened her good looks by sporting a hideous dayglo fake orange tan!

Mrskeats · 09/04/2016 00:07

And that's her choice surely?
Why do women take such pleasure in criticising other women? Men just don't do this and it holds women back
The women in those photos look how they want to so stop being so judgmental!
