I apologise for posting a link to a bitchy DM article, but it's a slow work day. And they must be freezing!

"Some really humiliating, upsetting pics for the women at Aintree today. I don't know why it's okay to publish pictures of women's skirts blowing up... It's so unkind & almost harassment."

I agree.

"I cannot work out how anyone can spend the day there wearing less than a thermal vest, woolly jumper, coat and thermal socks though. Bonkers."

Me too. I would go dressed like this Grin. I hate being cold.

I liked the older lady dressed in a blue polka dot dress with a white jacket. I thought she looked so elegant.

There has to be something in the water or perhaps sugars and additives in our foods because seeing those young twenty something women with faces like hardened forty year olds is bizarre. The slim ones amongst all of the heaving obese patrons also look strange as many have cellulite.

Women's figures did not look like this in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, the female population has morphed into a quote grotesque looking species.

The Rooney mother and mother in law need longer hemlines, supportive underwear, stocking's or tights and a stylist who will make them look more sophisticated. They both look like they're on the way to go go.

The woman with the pink dress smoking a fag is beyond any help! Grin

ExConstance · 08/04/2016 09:55

I just can't understand why they dress this way when they will be very cold and their feet will hurt. You can go to a flat race in the summer if you want to look lovely in a sleeveless dress and sandals. National hunt racing is the one your wrap up warm for - Zara and princess Anne always get their clothes spot on for NH race meetings. I used t work for a company that arranged for us to go to Cheltenham Gold Cup meeting some years. I can't remember anyone wearing skimpy clothes then, tweed or maybe a nice wool outfit was the ting to wear.

bolleauxnouveau · 08/04/2016 10:18

It did look cold. The DM article was cruel and pervy.
When did looking good become synonymous with clinging fabrics and exposing as much skin as possible, outdoors,in April? Brrr.

Jaimx86 · 08/04/2016 10:22

Id be interested to see what people would have worn if they went. Seeing the pics has got me thinking about what I would have worn - maybe something like the lady in black (with the 'sleeves') but I think her lovely willowy figure helped her to carry it off.

squoosh · 08/04/2016 10:28

I'd definitely have gone for trousers.

bolleauxnouveau · 08/04/2016 10:53

Trousers, coat, hair up (in that wind).

Most clothes look better with good muscle tone/posture, most people don't have that. But even Elle Mcpherson looked lumpy in a too small VB dress. My predecessors were tailors so I heard how cut compensates for poor posture, how shoulder pads could be built up in layers to shape a garment. Some of the most flattering dresses in that article were the most structured but they can be pricey.

ExConstance · 08/04/2016 10:55

I would have dressed like the lady in the tapestry coat with the flattish boots.

Larastheme · 08/04/2016 10:57

Some of these photos are just garish ,i dont think everyone wears stuff like that ,but then Part of me thinks that some of ladies have dressed OTT to get published in DM? You could see in the background some normal and stylish ensembles,
But Mrs Rooney must stop wearing these cape dresses, she looks like an action figure, her mother looks good.

squoosh · 08/04/2016 10:58

Some of the women are dressed fine for a summer wedding, but it's the weird juxtaposition of bridesmaid frock at a racetrack in April.

NNalreadyinuse · 08/04/2016 11:09

I think that women should wear what they like and everyone else should mind their own business unless asked for their opinion from said women.

Good Morning Britain, or whatever the fuck they are calling themselves these days, really pissed me off this morning by mocking how some women had dressed and promoting the idea that women should dress demurely at the races. It is a social event and not a place of employment where an employer might have a right to request a specific style.
I think we are continuing down a dangerous path when society feels it is okay to tell women how to dress.

Voteforpedr0 · 08/04/2016 11:10

So many overweight, badly made up and just looking like they'd done their make up with a trowel. Thought the woman in the black dress with the oversized cuffs looked great though along with the backless jumpsuit but again that's because they had the figures to go with the outfits. Coleen looks great though after just having her baby.

Snoopydo · 08/04/2016 11:14

Not just the clothes are being criticised now but the women's bodies Confused.

Cerseirys · 08/04/2016 11:40

I'm not a fan of the outfits but thing is, these women have probably been looking forward to Aintree for a while, paid a lot of attention to their outfits (regardless of whether we think they were good choices or not) and clearly thought they looked good and had fun. How hurtful must it be to have a national "news"paper then take the piss out of their outfits and bodies?

MsBojangles · 08/04/2016 12:45

Daren't make a comment, I'm not wearing the right shoes for walking on eggshells.

bolleauxnouveau · 08/04/2016 12:58

Smile I hear uggs and crocs are good for a bit of eggshell walking.

ShesAGreatGas · 08/04/2016 13:04

The DM is nasty.

Working class women get tarted up and get a bit pissed in public. Shocker! Hmm

God forbid an old/fat/not the most sunning woman should put on a frock and let her hair down for a day.

slug · 08/04/2016 13:13

All I can see is a lot of women, mostly in women only groups, obviously having a damn good time.

MsBojangles · 08/04/2016 13:13

I hear uggs and crocs are good for a bit of eggshell walking.

Perish the thought! Grin

I spot some unfortunate Kardashian influences, particularly amongst the younger 'ladies'.

mamacasshadahairyass · 08/04/2016 13:51

Something popped up on my Instagram timeline last night,no idea why.

The girl in the red and white gypsy style minidress had posted one of her own pictures but was complaining about the DM shot, but being reassured by her friends that she looked great. I personally thought it was a nice outfit but not necessarily making the best of her assets.

She's a personal shopper/stylist in a well known shop in Liverpool named after an insect and favoured by WAGs.

Tate15 · 08/04/2016 15:17

I found three larger and older ladies who all sport a different look but all look fabulous in my opinion! No need for acres of flesh on show!

I think the pics from today are much better overall, Tate. Some very beautiful and well dressed ladies!

oldlaundbooth · 08/04/2016 16:46

'At some point in the last 50 years, people have forgotten how to dress.'

This ↑

And this :

'There has to be something in the water or perhaps sugars and additives in our foods because seeing those young twenty something women with faces like hardened forty year olds is bizarre. The slim ones amongst all of the heaving obese patrons also look strange as many have cellulite.

I couldn't agree more.

Not a good representation of British women at all.

They look hard, aggressive and overweight. Fat, sick and poor. Even though they are none of these things.

I'm not sure where it's all gone so wrong.

GrumpyOldBag · 08/04/2016 16:54

Slightly better balance from the Guardian:

www.theguardian.com/sport/gallery/2016/apr/08/ladies-day-at-aintree-in-pictures

Still must be freezing though!

Whether it's ethical or not of the DM to publish these pics is beside the point.

The point is that the women were dressed like that in the first place.

If you don't want to be photographed looking a certain way then don't go out dressed in a certain way!

Not exactly rocket science.
