I apologise for posting a link to a bitchy DM article, but it's a slow work day. And they must be freezing!

There is no dress code at aintree.

Anyway, the grand national meeting is its own little world, it is what it is and all the more fun for it. I cannot work out how anyone can spend the day there wearing less than a thermal vest, woolly jumper, coat and thermal socks though. Bonkers.

RudeElf · 07/04/2016 22:00

Me either tootsie. I'd not be there be in my wellies with long socks.

burnishedsilver · 07/04/2016 22:09

I'm not from the UK and I don't know much about racing but first impressions are that that is a pretty rough looking crowd.

mamacasshadahairyass · 07/04/2016 22:24

Which is exactly what the DM wants you to think, burnished silver.

115,000 people are expected to turn up over this three day event. DM just manages to pick a tiny percentage of attendees who don't match up to their ideas of style. But I suppose theres only so many stories they can do on the Kardashians

Although I'd be surprised if Fazakerley hospital wasn't full of people suffering hypothermia by now

whattheseithakasmean · 07/04/2016 22:34

The Daily Mail is vilely sneery and most of the women just look to be having a (chilly) laugh. But the beige jumpsuit in that photo is an incomprehensible item of clothing. I am not judging the attractive woman wearing it any more than that someone designed it, made it and sold it. At no point did anyone think, this item of clothing is too fugly to live and must be stopped. Can anyone, hand on heart, defend that beige monstrosity?

officerhinrika · 07/04/2016 23:27

I'm with Tootsie on this one. It's always blowing a howling gale at Aintree. You need to dress like Jennie Pitman used to to survive it, boots, long coat and a large warm hat!
There was a worrying outbreak of June wedding type outfits at Cheltenham as well and it's bloody cold there.
I'm not going to click on the DM link, saw enough on the TV to make me shiver.

Greengardenpixie · 07/04/2016 23:41

Oh dear. That beige jumpsuit.

Whoever told her she looks good in that was lying. So so awful.

Greengardenpixie · 07/04/2016 23:43

Actually put it in the fashion horrors thread [horrendous emoticon]

DaphneWhitethigh · 07/04/2016 23:46

Such a pretty young woman too in that beige horror - it must have taken a special kind of bad luck for her to end up in something unflattering out of the millions of outfits that would have made her look stunning. Never mind, I'm sure she had a drink and a laugh with her mates and I hope she had some flip flops in her handbag for the journey home.

Behooven · 07/04/2016 23:51

She'll look back in horror when she is older. When I was a New Romantic however, I looked amaaaazing! no I really looked dreadful and I blush out loud when I look at the photographs

lemonade30 · 07/04/2016 23:59

Well Behooven, just be thankful that some haggard old horror didn't post your photo on an Internet forum and slag off your youthful ( iff ill advised) foray in to fashion.

At least the young girl in the jumpsuit has time on her side, she will have ample opportunity to look beautiful in myriad ensembles for a long time to come.

I for one don't pity her Smile

Greengardenpixie · 08/04/2016 00:01

Well I have made many a fashion faux pas especially when young. I look back and thing oh god!!!! Saying that, I haven't been photographed by the press in them..... That is a whole different matter.

Behooven · 08/04/2016 00:06

Fashion faux pas - haven't we all? 😀
No social media when I was flashing my pants thank gawd

Marylou2 · 08/04/2016 07:16

I was at Aintree yesterday. Unfortunately at the hospital rather than the racecourse as I work as a medical rep. Had a black suit, grey wool coat, scarf and opaques on. It was bloody freezing outside. What goes through these women's minds? I'd wouldn't enjoy a day out where I was cold.

Marylou2 · 08/04/2016 07:17

I* wouldn't (sorry)

Eve · 08/04/2016 07:27

DM do this every year, didn't Aintree warn or ban them last year over publishing and making comments?

Tanaqui · 08/04/2016 07:32

Lots of those outfits would look fab if the women were standing still, or indoors. The DM just likes to be mean- even the two gorgeous girls in really pretty pastel frocks get sneered at for their shoes and looking like bridesmaids- it's just for the clicks.

dylsmimi · 08/04/2016 07:47

This happens with the dm every year - with thousands of people there on each day it's cwry lazy journalism to find the small percentage they feel have 'fashion fails' every picture I have seen of friends and family who were there yesterday looked beautiful and dressed appropriately
It will be the worse today for ladies day but I just hope everyone who goes has a good and safe time and ignores all the horrible judgy comments

Obs2016 · 08/04/2016 07:48

A couple of the dresses were totally beautiful.
Most of the other outfits were beyond awful.

southeastastra · 08/04/2016 07:59

hahah the sport of 'kings' lol

what a state they are. embarrassing. like the added 'fag on' accessory

Obs2016 · 08/04/2016 08:07

Light blue on left is lovely

ARichVernacular · 08/04/2016 08:25

I don't like it, I think it's a shame and I don't think it's necessary.

I feel the same way about your attitude to women.

RudeElf · 08/04/2016 08:40

Surely half the fun of clothes is looking back in 20 years and laughing with your mates/sister/mum at how ridiculous you looked despite thinking you were the height of fashion at the time?

ItGoesWithoutSaying · 08/04/2016 08:55

Greengardenpixie:
Its up to the women what they wear. Not all of them look bad but it seems to me that the press are publishing those photos and its almost like its done as a freak show.

This exactly. I wouldn't go but hope those who did enjoyed what they wore and had a good time.

The next time some pervert gets arrested in his local park for trying to get "up-skirt" photos the DM will go all moral outrage on it. They are no better. In fact they are worse, as the pervert doesn't splash his misogyny over a national paper/website.
