My lovely DD had all her hair cut off yesterday. She's been thinking about it for ages so it wasn't a mad impulse.
She took a cute picture of an Anne Hathaway pixie cut with her. She also had some colour as she wanted to be blonder. She's very upset with how it looks and thinks is it is very middle aged and not pixie! I think she looks gorgeous but agree that the cut and colour isn't brilliant. It's so short though that we don't know how to change it...Are there any hairdressers out there who could advise? Can the cut be rescued without taking loads more off?? Please please help, I was so proud of her for being brave and going for a change and she's so upset.

Ahhh OP, I do love a happy ending! DD looks totally awesome! Grin
Reminds me of my own failed foray into the world of short hair at a similar age. I wanted Natalie Imbruglia c. 'Torn' but ended up looking like a reject from Backstreet Boys. I've not dared return to it since, but this thread is sort of making me want to give it another go!

Ringadingdingdong · 18/01/2016 20:33

Ahhhhh her hair now looks fab!! So glad you let her have the day off and took her to get it sorted. I'm pretty sure my mum wouldn't have. I remember feeling sick with nerves going to school for the first time when I had a spectacularly bad haircut, and I did get teased. You just don't have the self-confidence to brush off comments at that age. Your daughter will always remember you doing this for her.

manandbeast · 18/01/2016 20:39

You are a lovely mum Flasheart

I'm so glad this got fixed! It's a great cut now. I haven't read the rest of the comments but just wanted to say (probably a repeat of someone else's post) that you don't have to spend loads to get a good cut. I have very thick, coarse hair that I got cut last year from bra strap length to a pixie cut similar to your dd's new style. Just a small local salon, £25 for cut and blow-dry but the lady who does mine REALLY understands my hair. She talked me into the style I have, I was thinking something different but she was adamant it wouldn't look how I expected. I absolutely love my hair now!

CoolToned · 18/01/2016 20:50

I'd just let it grow. And wear cute clothes. She's young, she can get away with anything really.

Also, headbands and hair accessories/clips:

Oh just saw the new cut and colour. Very fab and youthful!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 18/01/2016 20:55

That haircut is amazing...

Im getting my hair cut on Saturday and now im really tempted to go for the chop again

Plateofcrumbs · 18/01/2016 20:57

Bloody hell that original cut and colour was an attrocity but the new one is great. I had my hair various versions of short for many years and there are lots of fun things you can do with it, and you can change your look regularly - different colours, experiment with length and styling products. But never went to a hairdresser who I didn't trust.

steakpunararemediumwelldone · 18/01/2016 20:58

Ooh lovely! I was lurking hoping for a good outcome!

teacher54321 · 18/01/2016 21:01

At a similar age I had a HORRENDOUS haircut, with a mullet and I cried and cried and cried. My mum did exactly what you did-booked me an appt somewhere else and got it sorted and paid for it and I looked fab. I have always remembered that and been grateful Smile and that was 20 years ago. Your gorgeous DD is lucky to have you.

KoalaDownUnder · 18/01/2016 21:06

The new cut is trendy and gorgeous and stunning!!!

Flowers So hall for her!

KoalaDownUnder · 18/01/2016 21:07

Happy, not hail !!

redgoat · 18/01/2016 21:10

I'm so pleased you both managed to get it sorted. Her hair looks fab now. Smile

Neveradullm0ment · 18/01/2016 21:15

Ahhh thank goodness -great cut and the semi suits her too

dementedma · 18/01/2016 21:20

Love love love that second cut!!!!

CointreauVersial · 18/01/2016 21:32

Glad you got the Balding-Cut sorted out, even though you'll be eating bread and water for the next month! Worth it just to restore DD's confidence.

Teacher - I was also given a dreadful mullet once. That's the problem, when you go to your mum's hairdresser.

ivejusthadacake · 18/01/2016 22:00

i havent read the whole thread but i have beyond thick hair (think volume of hair a horse has).

at 17, i cut it very short and had a curtains 90s style. worst decision of my life and affected my confidence for years. I had quite a full face then though, with very round eyes and no defined chin or cheekbones. Also, i didnt have nice medium fine hair that all the models did in the photos.

Dd looks like she has very thick hair and if she has the right fine features for short hair (im sure she is beautiful either way), definitely through money at it.

If not, then maybe a colour while it grows.

Outcomesthebunnyofdeath · 18/01/2016 22:03

Came in especially to see the new hair and it is gorgeous. So pleased for your dd and what a great mum you are Smile

LizzieVereker · 18/01/2016 22:05

Been lurking - I think she looks really cool and funky, and DS aged 17 said "If her face is as nice as her hair, she must be gorgeous". Grin

ivejusthadacake · 18/01/2016 22:06

ive read it all now, great cut, much more youthful and detailed

SecretWitch · 18/01/2016 23:54

Yay!! Gorgeous! So happy for dd...

Herrerarerra · 19/01/2016 00:08

That looks fantastic!! Great cut and the colour is gorgeous!

She'll find it such an easy style to maintain. A blast with a hairdryer, run a bit of product through it and she's ready to go!

RainOhJoyus · 19/01/2016 00:18

New cut and colour is amazing!
Your are a brilliant mum OP

MimsyBorogroves · 19/01/2016 08:35
