My lovely DD had all her hair cut off yesterday. She's been thinking about it for ages so it wasn't a mad impulse.
She took a cute picture of an Anne Hathaway pixie cut with her. She also had some colour as she wanted to be blonder. She's very upset with how it looks and thinks is it is very middle aged and not pixie! I think she looks gorgeous but agree that the cut and colour isn't brilliant. It's so short though that we don't know how to change it...Are there any hairdressers out there who could advise? Can the cut be rescued without taking loads more off?? Please please help, I was so proud of her for being brave and going for a change and she's so upset.

Lovely haircut. Smile

Sallystyle · 18/01/2016 16:57

I would like to say she has a beautiful face but I can't see it.

She has beautiful hands and hair though Grin

I have never spend that kind of money on my own hair, but I'm quite amazed at the difference somebody good can make - - eyes her own mousey bob

Your dd will always remember you for this op. What a wonderful mum you are. Families like you make me feel happy smile this is how it should be.

Definitely :)

Marmitelover55 · 18/01/2016 16:59

What a lovely end to the story - glad it's all sorted and your DD looks fab!

Sallystyle · 18/01/2016 16:59

OP I have an amazing hairdresser.

She is John Oliver trained and has heaps of experience. I found her on gumtree as she now does mobile hairdressing. She charges me £25 but she is worth so much more.

PinkFairy22 · 18/01/2016 17:00

I'm so pleased it all worked out! It's a great cut and I really like the colour. I'm so impressed at her bravery. I'm at least twice her age and haven't built up the courage for a shorter cut yet!

longestlurkerever · 18/01/2016 17:03

It's fantastic, hurrah! Hope she's looking forward to showing it off at school now Grin

multivac · 18/01/2016 17:04

So pleased!

glorious · 18/01/2016 17:05

That is so much better because it's almost identical to mineGrin

WicksEnd · 18/01/2016 17:06

She looks fabulous! So much better! I can highly recommend lee Stafford spray wax for styling. It's very easy to use as I find it's easy to over do it on the putty kind of stuff and end up with a greasy looking mess. (Often on 3 for 2 @ Boots)

flashheartscanoe · 18/01/2016 17:06

that's what we need U2. She has a friend at school with cool short hair so she's going to ask her who does it. (maybe should have done that in the first place??)

good tip re. spray wax. We did go to superdrug and were baffled at the range of clay, putty, wax, scuff etc.

Oh wow. So gorgeous. What a difference. Well done both of you. (i also seem to have something in my eye U2 Blush )

What kind of budget could you stretch to for the haircuts and how regularly will she need them?

Aspergallus · 18/01/2016 17:10

What a great mum you are. Totally the right thing to do. Confidence and self esteem are so fragile at that age.

I know one or two people have suggested there is a life lesson in just living with something like this, but it might be the wrong life lesson -no one will help me...

My mum would have (and did in various circumstances) taken a "you've made your bed..." attitude. The lesson learned was that she was someone I couldnt go to for help. And i never have even at 40 years old now, with marriage, divorce, remarriage and two children and so many more life events under my belt. You've told your daughter you are there for her and you haven't made any judgement over with this matters or not -it matters to her. Everyone needs one person in their life with that attitude.

Three cheers for you!

Jux · 18/01/2016 17:11

Delurking too. What a great cut! Have fun with it, dd!

Dashie · 18/01/2016 17:13

I've never seen such different emotions in a head of hair with hands instead of a face!

The final result looks fantastic!

MiniCooperLover · 18/01/2016 17:13

Please just remember OP when looking for a future hairdresser, you get what you pay for. Pixie cuts need just as much, if not more, experienced hairdressers. Asking her friend with a short haircut is a good idea.

100% what asper said.

Samaritan1 · 18/01/2016 17:15

I'd go super blonde or red and flatten it a bit with product so that the layers aren't so obvious. For me pixie is longer on the sides and very short in the back. The only saving grace is that it will grow out quickly - when she gets it cut next ask the hairdresser not to cut the layers.

LieselMeminger · 18/01/2016 17:17

Opened thread as dh looked over shoulder and he said "Ooooh is Claire Balding on MN?"

I'd have let dd have day off to fix it too.

Her hair looks lovely now, the new Salon have done a brilliant job.

(a good colour protect shampoo and conditioner/products can help that colour look vibrant for longer)

nilbyname · 18/01/2016 17:18

Now that is a very cool hair cut.
