Remember Body shop ice blue shampoo and animal soaps, body and face place pineapple lip balm. Explanation perfume, Charlie red, youth dew?? What are your fave beauty products from days of old?

Body Shop's little bottles of coconut perfume oil. And Dior Poison perfume.
They were the scents of the 80's for me.

10 years later it was Aramis 'Tuscany' perfume, everyone seemed to be wearing it and I couldn't stand the stuff. It really did get right up my nose Grin

I loved New West for women and was gutted when it was discontinued.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 26/01/2016 22:14

Oh what a fab thread! There are two products that have been on my mind recently - Bon Matin body sprays, which were cheapo ones that my big sister and I used to buy to go on holiday with once a year.

Also, Miss Selfridge Copper Knocker lipstick and an amazing bronze eyeliner and shadow that I can't remember the name of. Copper Knocker made your teeth look like slabs of cheddar, but the bronze eye stuff was amazing!

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 26/01/2016 22:16

Japanese washing grains were fantastic. I can remember the smell so clearly. The updated version was fairly nasty though.

Anais anais or Le Jardin?

darksideofthemooncup · 26/01/2016 22:21

Just returning to the thread to say that I am now the proud owner of a massive bottle of Flex conditioner courtesy of Amazon and it looks and smells exactly as I remember it.
Has anyone mentioned Hard Rock Hairspray? I would have to unglue my hair from my crimpers after using that. Poor the ozone layer Sad

squicketysquack · 26/01/2016 22:33

I'm still wearing exclamation! and body shop white musk perfumes Blush

sulee · 26/01/2016 22:36

This is bringing back memories. I used to love Mary Quant Special Recipe make up and Angel Face make up from Pond's. Biba make up was great- I used to go to High St Ken to drool over it! I was desperate when Bath and Body works closed in the UK- they were like Body Shop but much better- I hunt them out whenever I am in the States.
Agree Revlon Flex was the best shampoo ever! I also used to love Tame, it was called a creme rinse- one of the earliest hair conditioners. Sea Witch hair colour anyone? Desert Flower perfume?
Linco beer shampoo was available in Superdrug untill very recently and you can still find Hennara henna wax and Harmony hair colour in Savers etc.

sarah2011 · 26/01/2016 23:00

My mum cried when Mary quant was done away with, she tried and failed to find another mascara that she loved as much.
I miss old school body shop so much I would buy something weekly and now I go in maybe once a year, I used to feel excited as I got in, the little green bottles, the perfume bar, the baskets with cling film and bath balks. Their make up was lovely too- I still have some of the brushes and a make up bag,
I had a jasmine perfume oil and a saddle wood - gorgeous.
On another note I have been wearing tribe all day and loved it ha. Did you know it sponsored take that's first UK tour?

I remember them creme deodorants, it always reminded me of squeezing a really big (and disgusting) spot!

I had a snowman solid perfume badge from Avon. It was sent by my Mum's American penfriend. I thought I was so cool.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 27/01/2016 07:05

Those cream deodorants (still very popular here in Italy) were such a sqizz. They lasted about 3 days.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 27/01/2016 09:45

Does anyone remember the Accessorize perfume that came in a deep blue bottle with a pointy brown lid? It sort of looked like a weird walknut whip. I loved that perfume so much, I'd probably buy it now.

Yes to the coffee shimmer, lip cote, Tribe, Exclamation!, Salon Selectives, wash in-wash out hair dye that never washed out, Barry M make up, and lots of others already mentioned.

I remember I went through a, albeit thankfully short, phase of using talcum powder instead of face powder. I looked like I was dressed for Hallowe'en.

I was so proud of my spiral permed hair too. I was such a catch.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 27/01/2016 09:46

I can't believe that Le Jardin is still around, my mum used to wear it and it reminds me of feeling carsick when travelling during the summer holidays.

NotNowBono · 27/01/2016 10:02

I found Le Jardin in a TK Maxx and eagerly bought some... but I don't think it smells the same. Sad I once read that Jennifer Aniston wore Anais Anais which made me a bit Hmm even then.

Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden was also very big in my fifth form.

MissBattleaxe · 27/01/2016 10:20

TheCunk- the perfume you mean was Monsoon in a blue bottle and brown lid that looked woven or spiral. It was gorgeous but completely unavailable now, sadly. Accessorize still do perfumes but they are weak and insipid.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 27/01/2016 10:42

Ah yes MissBattleaxe, it was Monsoon! Thank you. If only they'd bring it back, it was lovely.

flightywoman · 27/01/2016 16:17

I still have the stub of one of my first eyeliners and my first lipstick. Oh I thought I was SO COOL, with my burgundy lippie and my black eyeliner on the waterline, not underneath as everyone does it now!

And I still have a Sensiq lipstick - it is indeed oval packaging.

I had a wonderful lip pencil in a set from M&S in the early 80's, it was the perfect raspberryish pink, and I've never found one to match it, though goodness knows I've tried. I have the tiniest bit left.

Original Charlie was one of my first proper scents, in a triangular bottle and a little denim pouch. I loved it.

I really miss the soaps in Culpepper, that was such a lovely shop, all herbally and delicious. I think it was them that did a nettle hair rinse.

Oh I know, what about those clicky lipstick things - same principle as Touche Eclat, but lip colour. That seems to have gone.

I might photograph my vintage make-up later!

Dawndonnaagain · 27/01/2016 17:12

I had a green Biba Lippie, and yes I used to wear it! That was in the seventies!
Outdoor girl mink eyeshadow, loved that.
Miners seems to have made a bit of a comeback, I saw some in a shop recently.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 27/01/2016 20:00

Oh flighty, do take pics!

You've reminded me of buying a white eyeliner which went on the inside of your eyelids to make your eyes look bigger (apparently) I imagine I looked like a rabbit with flu. I think Rimmel used to do tiny little push up lippies. I also had some weird stuff from Rimmel which was supposed to fill in the ridges on your nails (why I found a fuck to give, I do not know) I spent hours splodging this polyfilla stuff on, only for it all to clump back off again the minute I did anything with my hands. I think it was called creatively....Ridge Filler.

sarah2011 · 27/01/2016 20:07

Lol at ridge filler. I had some of the mini push up Rimmel lipsticks, I can literally smell them now.
White eyeliner did the rounds when we were in uni, we used to draw a thick line across the lid and then plaster on black mascara for 'contrast' we also used to pluck our eyebrows into walking stick like arches - yuk

I still wear Anaïs Anaïs. They've recently done away with the crappy reformulation and gone back to the gorgeous original recipe I remember from my childhood - I had a very sophisticated French aunt who wore it. I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. She bought me my first bottle of AA for Christmas when I was 13. Unfortunately I didn't grow up to be as elegant as her but at least I smell like her!

Also:

Hard Rock hairspray (I was into hard rock/heavy metal in the 80s and it was the only hairspray any self respecting sleaze rocker would use)
Studio Line hair products
Coty Wild Musk perfume (especially the perfume cream)
Cosmetics To Go Myddvai Idolatrous Face And Back Pack
Hair mascara
Wood Nymph blonde hair dye (came in either silver or gold iirc)
Body Shop Rose Musk (I would pay almost anything for a bottle of that now)
The perfume oil 'counter' at The Body Shop
Yardley makeup

...sigh

MissBattleaxe · 27/01/2016 22:14

I reckon if someone brought back The Perfume Bar they'd make a killing. Even if it wasn't the Body Shop ( they have no plans to do so). Imagine a perfume shop where you can sniff all the oils and get little bottles of them. They were all fantastic too: Mostly Musk, Annie, Samarkand, Sandalwood, Japanese Musk etc

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 28/01/2016 06:25

Have they really Ophelia? Because I have a handful of samples (it's my comfort food inside of wrist gives me courage perfume, but smells so icky I'd never go out properly wearing it for everyone to smell) If it's back to un-reformulated I might get a bottle.

0pheliaBalls · 28/01/2016 07:44

They have ThenLater - make sure you buy a bottle called Anaïs Anaïs L'Original though. It's currently £12 for 30ml and £15 for 50ml in Superdrug - it used to be £30 for 30ml back in the day! The reformulated one is a bit icky - they changed it in the early 90s so that's the one most people are familiar with. The L'Original is beautiful and is like welcoming back an old friend. Such a rush of nostalgia when I first smelled it! And the bottle is lovely, too Smile
